Year Of Mercy 27th March 2016
Sunday of the Resurrection
“The mercy and understanding I show to others is the degree of
mercy, the kind of under standing I will get when I need it most.” ―
Joan Chittister OSB, God’s Tender Mercy
POPE FRANCIS PRAYER INTENTIONS - MARCH 2016
UNIVERSAL: Families in Difficulty—That families in need may
receive the necessary support and that children may grow up in
healthy and peaceful environments.
EVANGELISATION: Persecuted Christians—That those Christians who, on account
of their faith, are discriminated against or are being persecuted, may remain strong
and faithful to the Gospel, thanks to the incessant prayer of the Church.
Year of Mercy Pilgrimage
Cathedral of St Stephen’s—Pilgrim time at St Stephen’s 10.30am – 12.30pm on
each Saturday throughout the Year of Mercy. The Sacrament of Mercy
(Reconciliation) will be offered from 10-11am and then mass at 11.30am. Pope
Francis has declared a Plenary Indulgence for those who make a pilgrimage to the
Door of Mercy, attend the Sacrament of Mercy, and Mass, and pray the creed and
pray for the Pope and for his intentions. A St Stephen’s pilgrimage book, providing
pilgrims with a format of pilgrim prayer at various stations around the Cathedral is
available at the Door of Mercy.
St Brigid’s Church, Red Hill—During this Year of Mercy, St Brigid’s Church at Red
Hill has been selected by the Archbishop as one of the six churches of pilgrimage
within the Archdiocese of Brisbane. Throughout this year St Brigid’s will be open
from 5.00 to 7.00pm each Friday night for reconciliation and private prayer and
meditation. Additionally, from 6.00 to 7.00pm, there will be each Friday a Holy Hour
for pilgrims to which everyone is invited.

Happy Easter!
Should you have been wished a Happy
Good Friday?
Is “Happy” actually the best expression
of what we celebrate at Easter?
“Happy Easter,” are often the parting
words used by people at work as they move into
the long weekend to enjoy a very substantial
break. I actually said it myself to others I did not
expect to see until after the Easter weekend.
In the Beatitudes, Jesus announced
happiness as something very different to self
indulgence on a long weekend. You remember,
“Happy are the poor in spirit..., Happy are those
who mourn..., Happy are those who are
persecuted for my sake...” and so on.
In the mind of Christ, happiness is a byproduct of those who live for God. It is as we
live the way of God, that we find happiness.
Those who seek happiness for the sake of
happiness, will always be trying to chase it
down especially, if happiness is believed to be
found in what we have for ourselves or what we
get or what we avoid – happiness is not found
like this.
We only need to look upon the newly
baptised at Easter and witness their joy to see
that happiness is really about being submerged
in Jesus Christ. Happiness is all about our
pursuing who we are because of our Baptismal
commitment.
So, should we wish each other a Happy
Easter? What about a Happy Good Friday?
During the course of the Triduum, we
have remembered the gift of the Eucharist, the
gift of purpose in our service to others, the gift
of forgiveness for our sins, the gift of knowing
that suffering is not a sign that God has left us
and, the gift of resurrection hope.
If happiness is a by-product of living for
God, then responding to all these gifts is indeed
a reason to say a belated, “Happy Holy
Thursday and a Happy Good Friday” and, “
Happy Easter!”

AGNUS DEI
The 10:00am Solemn Mass is sung by the Cathedral Choir and Schola.
PROCESSIONAL HYMN
EASTER HYMN
Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!
Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!
COMMUNION MOTET
Hallelujah. For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. The kingdom of this world is become
the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings and Lord of lords. Hallelujah!
HANDEL
COMMUNION HYMN
1. O flock of Christ, your homage bring
To Christ the Lamb, your glorious king.
His Easter praise in triumph sing!
Alleluia!
Alleluia!
Alleluia!
VULPIUS
3. Never on earth was stranger sight:
Life fought with death in darkest night,
Yet lives to reign in endless light.
4. What saw you, Mary, on your way?
‘I saw the tomb where Life once lay,
Whose glory shone this Easter Day!’
2. Peace has come down from God on high. 5. Angels their joyful tidings spread!
The king of peace in death did lie.
Grave-clothes I saw where none lay dead,
To save the sheep the Lamb did die.
The cloth that once had veiled his head!
RECESSIONAL HYMN
R. By your kingly pow’r, O risen Lord,
All that Adam lost is now restored:
In your resurrection be adored.
1. Sing the joyful Easter cry,
Sound it to the souls in prison,
Shout our triumph to the sky:
Sing Christ risen, sing Christ risen.
But the pains which he endured, Alleluia!
our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
now above the sky he's King, Alleluia!
where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!
INTROIT
Resurrexi, et adhuc tecum sum, alleluia.
Posuisti super me manum tuam, alleluia.
Mirabilis facta est scientia tua, alleluia.
RUGGIERO
3. Death has lost and life has won;
Ev’ry new-born soul we christen
Now becomes the Father’s son:
Sing Christ risen, sing Christ risen.
ORGAN VOLUNTARY

OFFERTORY MOTET
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
At the Solemn Mass, the Choir sings the SEQUENCE
Victimae paschali laudes
immolent Christiani.
Agnus redemit oves:
Christus innocens Patri
reconciliavit peccatores.
Dic nobis Maria,
quid vidisti in via?
Angelicos testes,
sudarium, et vestes.
Scimus Christum surrexisse
a mortuis vere:
tu nobis, victor Rex, miserere.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
SPRINKLING RITE
All sing
Let Christians offer sacrificial
praises to the Paschal victim.
The lamb has redeemed the sheep:
The Innocent Christ has reconciled
the sinners to the Father.
Tell us, Mary, what did
you see on the road?
“The angelic witnesses, the
clothes and the shroud.”
We know Christ is truly risen
from the dead!
To us, victorious King, have mercy!
Light of the world, we know thy praise, the angels and archangels raise, and all the host
of heaven; more worthily than our faint hymns, whose jarring sound that glory dims,
which God to thee has given. But thou didst not disdain to take our low estate, or e’en to
make the tomb thy resting place; so thou might bring into our night the dawn of thine
eternal light to shine upon our face. Nor death, nor hell, nor sin, is Lord, but thou,
O Son of God. Thy word is now our sovereign law. Therefore we thank thee, and we
pray thy light may shine unto the perfect day, on us for evermore.
