Dear Members,
in this
issue
February is here and we still have not seen much
snow, this will probably be the month when we get
a season’s worth of snow in 29 days ( yes, it is leap
year.) The February meeting was held at the Manor
Inn; we had a great turnout, and it was good to see
many members that we usually only see at Vendors
Night.
Last year we worked on a video series that is
geared towards educating the towing industry
professional on Hybrid vehicle techniques.
Coordinated by Jason Emery (Waterbury Fire
Department) and the National Fire Protection
Association, “Prepare to Respond – Tow Operator
EV Safety”, starring Farmington Motor Sports and
Strollo Brothers & Sons, is now available for viewing
on YouTube. The film is in three segments and is a
great training film for Hybrid vehicles. It shows all
the precautions that need to be taken when
working with these vehicles. The link for the first

will see episodes 2 and 3 listed on the right side
bar – make sure you watch all three. The third
episode has the storage precautions that must be
followed for these vehicles.
There is a By-Laws Committee that is reviewing
the current by-laws for any changes that are
necessary. If you have any suggestions please send
them into the committee chair, Vice President Marc

would like a copy of the by-laws that you can print
out and review should email the office; we have a
scan that we can email back to you.
The Heavy Duty Tow Committee has a document
that will go out to all the members soon. There are
two parts to it. One part is the impact of the
Federal Legislation on the DOT annual overweight
permit and how it will affect your business when
towing a vehicle that has a gross vehicle weight
that exceeds the gross vehicle weight of the tow
truck. The exemption now only covers you when
the gross vehicle weight of the towed vehicle is
less than or equal to the gross vehicle weight of the
tow truck. DOT is planning to host a mandatory
tow class for all rotational towing companies
regarding this issue. The class will cover what
routes need to be followed when performing an
overweight tow and what precautions need to be
followed, there will also be a portion of the course
that will address Traffic Incident Management.

overweight permit that has been required for
participation on the State Police rotational towing
lists.
TRPC is encouraging all members to take the FREE
ONLINE Traffic Incident Management Course
offered by the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration. It is about 4 hours in total and you
have one year to complete the test and receive
your certificate. We think it is a good step to the
future as this training seems to be finally becoming
a required component of certification. The link to

There has been a problem with some of the
wrecker renewals at the Department of Motor
Vehicles. When processing the renewal online you
are prompted for an inspection and an insurance
issue. The Department has been in touch with us
and they are working to correct the issue. If you
cannot process your wrecker renewal online you
will have to go to a Branch office, all offices are
aware of the problem and they will get you
properly registered.
Members who bring their vehicle to Insurance
Auto Auctions Inc. to be auctioned are reminded to
mention that they are TRPC members. Anytime a
vehicle is sold through IAAI our association receives
a commission from the auction. Gavin Bennett
presented TRPC with a check for $200.00 from IAAI
at the last meeting. This helps TRPC to continue on
to present programs, present legislation, pay
lobbyist costs, contest laws in court and meet with
other agencies. A “thank you” to those who did use
IAAI.
There will not be a March meeting. Our next
meeting will be in April and as soon as we book it
we will let you know the details!!
