Biography
The song “Mapenzi” wins 1st Place at International Song
Writing Competition 2014 in the world music category,
Burundian and East Africa Singer, composer and master
drummer, Jean-Pierre Nimbona, aka Kidum Kibido- is a
Nairobi-based artist whose infectious tunes have hooked
legions of fans in East Africa and throughout the world. Kidum
is a World African Music Icon and winner of the 2012 African
Grammy, The Kora. He is an Ambassador for Peace helping
foster hope and reconciliation in East Africa. His secular but
spiritual songs range from rocking zouk to acoustic classics,
all featuring his vocal prowess.

Kidum, whose nick-name was given to him by his mother and
literally means a 20 litre jug, admits he was a very big baby,
his musical inspiration started at age 10 when he started to
play the drums. When he eventually came to Kenya as a
refugee, he went off to Nairobi in search of a living and
promptly joined a band as a drummer and singer; it took 4
years before Kidum Kibido eventually started writing his own
songs, which was the starting point to sharing his heart and
passion with the people. He has never looked back.
Kidum’s first album, Yaramenje (2001), established him
as the Voice of Peace in the Great Lakes region in Africa. This
followed with the hugely successful Shamba album, released
in 2003. The 2006 Ishano album portrays Kidum’s vocal best
with the rocking zouk Kichuna. With the 2010 release of
Haturudi Nyuma - Kidum is granted The Kora Award (the
African Grammy equivalent) for his songs Mapenzi, Nitafanya
and Haturudi Nyauma. In 2012, Kidum recorded the popular
Hali Na Mali album which includes the successful singles
Mulika Mwizi, Kimbia, Enjoy and Hali Na Mali.
Kidum exhibits multiple talents as a composer, vocalist,
drummer and arranger par excellence, although his earlier
songs were recorded in the Kirundi language - he progressed
to singing in Kiswahili where his spiritual and philosophical
compositions became accessible to a wider audience. Kidum’s
journey to stardom has been inspiring because of his passion,
resilience and hard work, overcoming hurdles that could have
easily discouraged many. Such talent and determination now
finds the international artist Kidum singing in French, English
and Spanish with his current BodaBoda Band, (translated as
Crossing Borders) His band performs throughout Africa,
Middle East, soon in Europe, Canada, USA etc.. As
everywhere Kidum plays on stage, his personality and
talents attract new fans, and his songs touch his audience
souls. Kidum has become the darling of Canadians, who

have been inviting him to perform every year. In August
2014, he was invited to play at a larger one of the biggest
and best festivals in the world, which is “Edmonton Folk
Music Festival 2014 in the City of Edmonton, the Province of
Alberta in Canada.

musique du monde organize chaque annee par “Internatonal
Songwriting Competition 2014’, Il est compositeur et batteur
burundais et de l’Afrique de l’est, Jean-Pierre Nimbona, alias Kidum
Kibido est un artiste basé à Nairobi. Ces tubes ont rencontre un
franc succès en Afrique Orientale et dans le monde à présent.

Kidum est une icône de la “world music” africaine. Il est Lauréat du
KORA AWARDS 2012, le Grammy africain. Il est un ambassadeurde
la paix et aide les initiatives porteuses d'espoir et de réconciliation
en Afrique de l'Est. Ses chansons tant profanes que spirituelles
varient entre le zouk et les classiques acoustiques, toutes
saupoudrées de ses prouesses vocales. Kidum, dont le surnom lui a
été donné par sa mère et signifie littéralement une cruche de 20
litres (« Kibido »), admet qu'il était un très gros bébé. Son
inspiration musicale a commencé à 10 ans quand il a commencé à
jouer de la batterie. Quand il a fui au Kenya en tant que réfugié, il
est parti à Nairobi à la recherche d'une vie securitaire et a rejoint
rapidement un groupe en tant que batteur et chanteur.
Il a fallu 4 ans à Kidum Kibido pour qu’il commence finalement à
écrire ses propres chansons. Et dès lors il partage à travers ses
chansons son grand cœur et ses passions. Il n'a jamais arrêté.

en 2003. L'album Ishano (2006) révèlera un Kidum plus vocal
que jamais comme dans le tube zouk bas Kichuna. Avec la sortie de
Haturudi Nyuma (2010), Kidum remporte le Kora Award
(l'équivalent africain des Grammy) pour ses chansons Mapenzi,
Nitafanya et Haturudi Nyuma. En 2012, Kidum enregistre l'album
populaire Hali Na Mali qui contient les singles Mulika Mwizi, Kimbia,
Enjoy et Hali Na Mali. Kidum possède de multiples talents:
compositeur, chanteur, batteur et arrangeur par excellence.
Bien que ses premières chansons aient été enregistrées dans

Il a réussi à surmonter des obstacles qui auraient facilement
découragé beaucoup. Grace a son talent et à sa détermination,
Kidum se trouve maintenant entrain de chanter en Français, en
Anglais et même en Espagnol accompagné par son groupe Bodaboda
Band, (traduit comme « ceux traversent les frontières »). Son
groupe se produit dans toute l'Afrique, le Moyen-Orient, bientôt
en Europe, Canada, aux Etats-Unis et en Amérique latine. Comme
partout ou Kidum joue sur scene, sa personnalite et talents attirent
de nouveaux fans, et ses chansons touchent les coueurs de son
audience. Kidu est devenu le Chouchou des Canadiens, qui l’invitent
a chaque annee, il a meme ete invite a jouer, a un de plus grands
festival au monde, “Edmonton Folk Music Festival 2014” qui se
passe dans la ville d’Edmonton la province de l’Alberta au Canada.
