A MESSAGE FROM THE NSU PRESIDENT
Dear Friends:
I want to offer a sincere “thank you” to those of you who made financial
contributions to Northeastern State University in 2015. Through your
generosity, the NSU Foundation’s total assets grew to almost $25 million,
enabling us to award a record amount of scholarship support of nearly
$735,000 to our deserving and appreciative students. For reference, in
2012, total assets were $16.7 million.
Your support comes at a critical time in the state’s history. When
comparing our state appropriation for fiscal year 2015 to fiscal year
2016, the appropriation has been reduced by $4,722,187 (12.73%). Since
January 1, 2016, we have been impacted by four revenues failures, two in
the General Revenue Fund and two in Oil Gross Production. Our cuts
since January 1 are $3,423,366 (9.56%). As you have heard and read through multiple media reports,
Oklahoma will have $1.3 billion less in revenue to appropriate in FY 17. The cumulative effects
of these cuts is forcing NSU to eliminate open positions, reduce course offerings, and impede our
ability to stay current with classroom technology.
Although the state’s financial situation is bleak, the zeal of NSU faculty and staff to provide a
rigorous educational experience and outstanding student services has not been diminished. Our
students remain optimistic about their future. They realize that, for most citizens, a bachelor’s
degree is the catalyst to wealth attainment and long-term quality of life. This report includes “their
story.” I trust that you will carefully read each account of what a scholarship means to them.
As I have met with graduates/donors over the past year, I have been blessed and inspired to hear
“your story” of what a degree from NSU means to you. How it changed your life and the lives of
those you love and those who love you. Regardless of when you graduated from NSU, or when
your parent(s) or grandparent(s) attended NSU, “your story” IS the NSU story. This institution
connects us all in very positive and tangible ways. And, we would not be able to serve the region,
state, and the international student population without your support.
Let me conclude this letter on a major positive note. You may recall that we announced
Preserve our Past. ENSUre Our Future. The Campaign for Northeastern State University in
January, 2015. Our initial working goal was established at almost $21 million. Due to an institutionwide effort, and through the sacrificial giving and pledges of so many donors, we raised almost $13
million in year one of a five year fundraising campaign. Thank you!
A new chapter of the NSU Story is being written, I sincerely hope you will continue to be part of it.
Sincerely,
Dr. Steve Turner, President

NSU FOUNDATION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S LETTER
As you’ll read in this 2015 Annual Report for
the Northeastern State University Foundation,
scholarships and other private donations
help our students and our university “move
mountains.” Many of our students work
multiple jobs, take care of their families, and
deal with nearly unimaginable hardships,
from unexpected medical emergencies to
natural disasters, and from food insecurity to
homelessness. Yet they persevere and do their
best academically, because they know that
higher education “moves mountains” within
our economy and our society.
“The highlight of my trip ended up being a lesser-known site that I
had never heard of: Abu Simbel, located near the Sudaneese border.”
I recently traveled to the Middle East to fulfill
a lifelong dream of exploring the pyramids,
tombs of pharaohs, and ancient cities in
Egypt and Jordan. The highlight of my trip
ended up being a lesser-known site that I had
never heard of: Abu Simbel, located near the
Sudaneese border. Abu Simbel is a temple
complex carved into a sandstone mountain
that was originally built around 1300 B.C. by
the Pharaoh Ramesses II to commemorate his
successful battle against the Hittites in Syria.
He also constructed a second temple nearby to
honor his favorite wife, Nefertari.
When the Aswan High Dam was being
constructed on the Nile River in the 1960s,
these two temples were in the floodplain
of the newly-created Lake Nasser. To save
these ancient structures, a multinational
team of archaeologists, engineers, and
skilled construction workers cut the entire
complex into stone blocks averaging 20 tons,
and reassembled them on higher ground.
Amazingly, it took just four years, from 1964
to 1968. Since then, an airport and businesses
catering to tourists have sprung up around
Abu Simbel.
A college education is a similar undertaking.
It takes about four years, requires a lot of
planning and hard work, and when complete,
translates into an economic driver for our
region. Like Abu Simbel, the impact of our
graduates will be seen for generations.
Through your donation to the NSU
Foundation, you are part of the team that
helps our students move mountains. And with
your continued support, the Foundation and
University will move our own mountain by
reaching the $20.925 million working goal
for the most ambitious fundraising campaign
in our institution’s history. The campaign
is appropriately named, “Preserve our Past.
ENSUre Our Future.” We look forward to
sharing more about this campaign in the
coming year.

NSU celebrates the re-dedication of the
CIRCLE OF
EXCELLENCE
PLAZA
For the past 50 years, Northeastern State University has honored faculty members who are selected
by their peers to be added to the NSU Faculty Circle of Excellence. These faculty were nominated
among many by students and colleagues for their contributions in teaching, research and service.
This year, NSU’s Council of the NSU Faculty Association and
the NSU Foundation celebrated the honorees, past and present,
during the re-dedication of the Circle of Excellence Plaza on
April 22.
Three faculty members are selected each year from three
different areas—teaching, research and service.
There have been over 90 recipients with the most recent being
Dr. Dilene Crockett, Dr. Sapna Das-Bradoo, and Dr. Christopher
Flavin in 2016; Dr. Kathi McDowell, Dr. Joseph Ahlander and
Tom Rink in 2015; Dr. Mark Paulissen, Dr. Christine Hallman
and Dr. David Lewerenz in 2014; and Dr. Mike Wilds, Dr. Kevin
Wang and Dr. Tiffany Maher in 2013. The first faculty member to
receive this honor was Hattie Propst during the academic year of
1964-1965.
Peggy Glenn, director of development and executive director of
the NSU Foundation, stated that the NSU Foundation provides
perpetual funding for the Circle of Excellence awards. They
provide $2,500 per award recipient.
“The recipient may receive the funds directly or choose to deposit
the monies in a program account at NSU for use on books, a
conference, or other program-related expenses.”
All honorees have their name on a brick that has been installed in
the new plaza on the southwest side of the John Vaughn Library.

Nowicki
Scholarship
helps non-traditional students succeed
“That was when we decided that if we
could ever help non-traditional students
in our situation in the future, we
certainly would.”
Hard work, determination and diligence are telltale traits of a student
destined for success. But sometimes, a little help along the way can
be life-changing—enter Northeastern State University Foundation
scholarships. The Foundation’s annually funded scholarships and
endowments give students a chance to focus on their schoolwork,
while lightening the burdens of their financial responsibilities.
Michael and Linda Nowicki, for instance, know firsthand about
financially struggling through school.
As college students and newlyweds at Slippery Rock University,
Pennsylvania in 1981, the couple had to work while studying to be able
to afford their tuition.
“As a student I was working full time and going to school at nights for
my entire degree in business administration and marketing,” Linda
said.
Michael was completing his master’s degree in educational
administration while teaching full time at an elementary school. Each of
them maintained a 4.0 GPA.

Northeastern State University Foundation | 2015 Annual Report
“We studied nights and weekends and didn’t have time for
much else. We were young newlyweds with all the expenses
you could imagine, and there was nothing available
financially to help with our education,” Linda explained.
Eventually, their hard work set them up for success, as
Michael and Linda secured stable employment and pledged
to help other tenacious students get through school.
“After graduation I was promoted to director of personnel at
a local hospital in Pennsylvania where we lived at the time.
My education paid off. That was when we decided that if
we could ever help non-traditional students in our situation
in the future, we certainly would.”
It was a promise the couple kept. After moving from
Pennsylvania to the warmer climate in Cherokee County,
they worked with the NSU Foundation in December 2011
to establish the Nowicki Annual Scholarship for NonTraditional Students, which has helped 39 students since
2010.
Brandy Hayes, a 2015 recipient majoring in criminal justice,
said with all the demands of life she has to face—as a wife,
mother of four, work and college—the scholarship money
gave her that extra push to succeed.
that much closer to living the bright and happy life of my
dreams.”
Christopher Havenar, a Tulsa student majoring in
accounting, also has dreams of bettering his life by earning
a quality education, while supporting his wife and daughter.
“I am the first person in my family to have
attended a university, so I cannot express just
how important this education is to me and
my loved ones. This scholarship will lighten
the burden of student loans and will help me
purchase textbooks for my classes without
having to go out of pocket.”
~Christopher Havenar
Havenar, Luznicky, Smith and Hayes all epitomize the
“non-traditional students” this scholarship was intended to
help.
“It not only helped me financially, it showed me the hard
work I put into my education and grades were worth it. It
gave me the strength to finish up my last year of college and
the drive to keep my grade point average high.”
“The ideal recipient we feel is someone who is in the
similar situation as us - earning money to support their
family and trying to get ahead by getting a good education.
Also someone who works hard to get good grades and
proves they are serious about school by at least completing
their freshman year,” Linda said.
Another recipient, Justin Smith, a computer science major
from Fort Gibson, had to work two jobs—full time and part
time—because taking care of his wife and son while paying
tuition was putting a strain on his finances.
Students are considered non-traditional for purposes of this
scholarship if they are employed at least 20 hours a week
excluding on-campus work, are full time students, and are
at least a sophomore with a declared major.
In a letter to the Nowicki’s, Smith thanked them for their
generosity.
Linda hopes some of the Nowicki scholarship recipients
pay it forward by helping others in the future, when they
have the means. The couple is now retired and has lived in
Tahlequah for the past 10 years.
“The Nowicki Scholarship will lessen that strain and it is
greatly appreciated by not only myself, but my family.”
Amy Luznicky, a psychology major who received the award
in 2015 and a single mother of one, knew higher education
was her ticket to a more fulfilled life. The scholarship, she
said, directly supported the transformation she wanted for
her family.
“This will reduce my student debt burden and put me

Amy Luznicky and son Alex
New NSU
scholarship
to benefit
single parents
Northeastern State University
student Shannon Fincher is a single,
working mother of five, who now has
a chance to study and take care of her
family comfortably—thanks to a new
scholarship available to students at
NSU.
“Our mom was born at the end of
a dirt road in rural Cotton County,
Oklahoma. She grew up in a farming
community called Cookietown.
Education was always important to her,
and she made it known that it would
be important to us.”
The Sandra R. Farley Shaw Endowed
Scholarship was established by Shaw’s
son, alumnus Greg Shaw (’85), and
will specifically benefit single parents
seeking higher education, like Fincher.
Because of this, whenever the family
of three–Sandra, Greg and his brother
Mike–moved from place to place,
Sandra made it a point to live in the
best school district.
She was the first student to receive
funds from the scholarship in fall 2015.
“She always
managed to
scrape together
enough money
to help us with
extracurricular
activities like
music and
Sandra R. Farley Shaw
sports. Her
dream was for her two boys to go
to college, and we were able to
achieve that dream.”
~ Greg Shaw
“Receiving this scholarship makes me
believe I am doing the right thing,
and going back to school is what I am
meant to do,” the psychology major
said, who takes care of two sets of
twins, aged 16 and 10, as well as her
3-year-old grandson.
While Fincher has a part-time job and
volunteers at her church when she can,
she said the scholarship money will
provide a major relief for her family.
“This scholarship equates to time I can
spend focused on my education and
on my children instead of extra hours
at work to cover tuition and school
costs.”
Fincher said she was grateful to Greg
Shaw for his generosity, adding that
his mother Sandra Shaw would be
honored to have this scholarship in her
name.
Greg described his late mother as a
working, single mom who prioritized
education for her sons in spite of their
strained bank account.
Greg Shaw graduated from NSU in
1985 with a degree in journalism and
is now a senior director at Microsoft,
while Mike Shaw graduated from the
University of Oklahoma in 1996 after
majoring in marketing and economics.
He now works in telecommunications
at Onvoy.
Sandra Shaw’s perseverance as the sole
breadwinner of her family paid off.
Her sons became successful and she
eventually managed to go to college
herself.
She went on to become a public school
teacher as a result of her diligent work.
“We learned a lot from mom. I guess
they are old-fashioned values, but we
really committed ourselves to hard
work to get past hardship, honesty
even when it’s difficult, faith and
humor. She was a hard worker, brutally
honest and a lot of fun,” Greg Shaw
said.
Potential scholarship recipients must
be full-time students, single, working
parents, returning for a second
semester in freshman year or beyond,
while maintaining a 2.5 GPA.
The Office of Student Financial
Services manages the application
process, and the General Scholarship
Committee of the university
is responsible for the selection
recommendation.
“Even though she is no longer living,
this is our way of saying thank you and
recognizing her sacrifice. We hope her
story might inspire students in college
today who need a little extra help
while studying and supporting their
families,” Greg Shaw said.
For Fincher, the scholarship will do
just that.

Lindorfer Scholarship
reduces financial strain for OCO students
It did not take long for the family, friends and
colleagues of Dr. Alison Lindorfer to establish a
memorial optometric scholarship in her name
following her death in July 2007. A passionate and
stalwart optometrist, Lindorfer died after a long
battle with cancer, and since then her legacy has been
honored with an annual scholarship for students at
Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of
Optometry.
Established in August 2007, the scholarship seeks
to aid full-time students enrolled at NSUOCO
with a solid record of community service, who have
demonstrated compassionate concern for underrepresented groups.
Jonathan Janzen, NSUOCO student and scholarship
recipient for 2015-2016, met these criteria easily.
Janzen is passionate about optometry and, together
with his wife Rose, has been a foster parent to five
displaced children from Oklahoma.
With one year left at NSUOCO, Janzen said
receiving the scholarship will curb his student debt
after graduation.
“It was a chance to not have to take out quite as many
school loans.”
With the intensive demands of studying optometry,
it became difficult for 26-year-old Janzen to balance
school and a job. He knew his sole focus had to be his
degree.
“I worked for the first year and a half of
Optometry school, but eventually couldn’t
fit it in anymore. Optometry school is
fairly expensive and if you’re not able to
work to help with the bills, then the loans
can really start to pile up.”
of her academic and professional success.
“She was a gifted student graduating third in her
class of 350 from Allen High School in 1995, Summa
Cum Laude from Texas A&M University in 1999,
and Magna Cum Laude from Southern College of
Optometry in 2003. At the same time she was very
involved in activities at each school,” Linda said.
Linda recalled her daughter’s love for veterans while
working in Muskogee and how much she enjoyed
seeing patients and teaching students during her
rotations at the clinic.
Janzen took a chance on applying for the scholarship
after finding out about it through faculty emails, but
was nevertheless optimistic about his chances.
They wanted to keep their daughter’s memory alive
as well as show appreciation for NSUOCO’s support.
“I was very excited! I thought I had a pretty good shot
at it when I applied, so I was hopeful about it. It was
very nice to find out that I got it!”
“In establishing this scholarship, we also wanted to
thank the faculty and administration at Oklahoma
College of Optometry at NSU for their love and
support during Alison’s long illness.”
Lindorfer completed her residency at the Muskogee
VA Medical Center through the NSUOCO in 2004
and was an assistant clinical professor at the Salina
Indian Clinic from 2004 to 2007. She spent her life
preparing to serve others in her field of choice.
The Lindorfers also hope the money will help to
relieve the financial strain that some students feel
in furthering their education, like it did for their
daughter when she was a student.
Her parents, Arno and Linda Lindorfer, were proud
“We know that Alison appreciated the scholarships
she received during her academic career.”

NSU expected to implement a new
Physician Assistant program in 2017
Northeastern State University is committed to
developing diverse, knowledgeable, and welltrained graduates. Its new Physician Assistant
Studies Program will provide direct benefit to the
regional needs of northeastern Oklahoma.
Physician assistants are health care practitioners,
licensed by state medical boards to practice
medicine under the supervision of a licensed
physician. The PA is able to provide a broad
range of medical services within primary and
specialty care including diagnostic, therapeutic,
preventative and health maintenance services.
NSU has received entitlement to offer a Master
of Science in Physician Assistant Studies on its
Muskogee campus from the Oklahoma State
Regents for Higher Education. NSU will be the
sponsoring entity and responsible for the didactic
first year of the program.
Melody Yozzo, physician assistant program
director, described the graduate-level program as
important to providing excellent health care to
the region. She stressed having a quality physician
assistant education program as part of growing
quality health care providers.
“Knowing the importance of what
we are building for northeastern
Oklahoma makes this experience one
of exceptional professional and personal
pride for the founding program faculty
and staff.”
The program will be developed throughout
2014-2016, reviewed for provisional accreditation
by the Accreditation Review Commission on
Education for the Physician Assistant Education
in October 2016 and implemented with its first
cohort of 16 to 20 students in June 2017.
The Physician Assistant Studies Program will
be instrumental in meeting the critical need for
health care providers, specifically to serve in rural
and underserved areas of northeast Oklahoma.
Cultural competency education, with a particular
focus on American Indians served in the area, is
integrated throughout a curriculum designed to
prepare graduates with the knowledge and skills
needed to provide excellent health care.
“This health professions program will educate
qualified and competent physician assistants
with sensitivity to the underserved and American
Indian populations in northeastern Oklahoma,
addressing health care needs, resident well-being
and the economic health of the region,” Yozzo
said.
The 24-month physician assistant studies
curriculum will consist of 56 credit hours in the
instructional year, housed on NSU’s Muskogee
campus, and 54 credit hours in the clinical year
of training conducted through regional medical
centers including Northeastern Health System,
the Cherokee Nation, the Muscogee (Creek)
Nation and Northeastern Oklahoma Community
Health Center.
The master’s level curriculum provides physician
assistants with depth of knowledge in the basic
medical sciences and clinical medicine, as well
as skills in practice management and research.
With these expanded skills, graduates can take
advantage of the wide diversity of positions
available to PAs.

MOVING
mountains
With NSU Scholarships
“She will look back on this when
she is an adult and see what I have
accomplished and hopefully move
her own mountains.”
Ain Scott graduated in May 2016 with a degree
in Communication Studies after a grueling five
semesters, which included juggling school, a part-time
job as a substitute teacher and raising his 11-year-old
daughter, Rain Scott—all by himself.
“My biggest challenge being a single father, going to
school, working and trying to make sure everyone’s
needs are met, is the motivation to keep doing what
I’m doing, as far as the school aspect is concerned. I
know that my daughter comes first.”
The Muskogee resident vividly recalls instances since
enrollment on the Tahlequah campus in 2014, when
dropping out or switching to part-time status seemed
imminent.
“The first time I almost dropped out was when I got
a call from Rain’s school saying she was sick. I was
feeling overwhelmed, I was standing outside class in
the hallway, almost at the point of tears, and I said
to myself ‘Man, I’m just going to stop, go get my
daughter and go home.’”
“And then I got my marbles back about me,” he said
smiling.
With an unrelenting drive to set an example for his
daughter, who has special needs because of a speech
delay, Ain Scott was able to overcome his self-doubt
and stay in school full-time.
“I wanted to provide better for my daughter. And I
wanted more for myself.”
Northeastern State University scholarships were
pivotal in allowing him to continue.
Over the next two years, he received eight scholarships
and monetary awards, including the Ben Hollywood
Zeigler Award in 2014 and 2015, the Darrell and
Sandra Sullenger Scholarship, the Nowicki Annual
Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students and the Jack
and Jane Cochran Scholarship in 2015 and 2016.
“When I found out about each scholarship, I felt a
burst of energy and it made me know I was on the
right path. It made me realize: ‘Look, I am doing
something right. I’m doing enough for people to
recognize and offer assistance.’ So that definitely kept
me moving ahead.”
Scott now had the money to pay for lunch or a late
dinner on campus after a full day of class, or
pay for gas to commute from Muskogee to
Tahlequah. These seemingly small reprieves
saved him from taking drastic steps.
“If I didn’t have these scholarships, then I
would have had to drop down to part-time
status, or just quit.”
The second occasion he almost gave
up was at the start of spring semester
2015, when the workload seemed
insurmountable, given his competing
responsibilities. With the thought of
driving back and forth and the inherent
costs, Ain Scott again felt deterred.
That’s when he called his mother,
Paulette Scott.
“She simply advised me to do it a piece
at a time. That helped me focus on the
task at hand and take it day by day.”
With these wise words, and the
financial relief from scholarships, he
pushed through.
“I’ve had some very long days here,
with classes scattered from morning to
night, so sometimes I am here for 12 hours. So
just to be able to buy something to eat, something as
simple as money for food, or money for gas, that goes
a long way.”
When asked if it was surprising to receive such
support from a university, he said NSU was anything
but a regular university.
“I’m not surprised by NSU’s
generosity when it comes to
scholarships. It’s such a homey
campus and I got to witness that
at 5 years old.”
As a child he was able to tag along with his mother
to her classes at NSU on days she could not find a
babysitter. She attended school here from 1983 to
1986, studying speech-language pathology
education.
“I remember playing with my toys quietly, drawing or
just listening to the professor and not understanding
anything he was talking about.”
NSU has been a part of his life from a young age and
continues to have a formative influence, which he
hopes is passed on to his daughter.
“I think very highly of NSU and I speak very highly of
this school. They take care of their students; it’s like a
family.”
Scott has built his legacy as a hard-working father and
is compelled to inspire Rain with his example.
“She will look back on this when she is an adult and
see what I have accomplished and hopefully move her
own mountains.”

Northeastern State University Foundation | 2015 Annual Report
I wanted to personally thank you for investing in young
adults’ education. I hope to become everything that I have the
potential of becoming, and that you will get to benefit from my
success as I have benefitted from this scholarship. Through this
scholarship, you have showed me that hard work does pay off.
Sarah Claus, Blaregnies, Belgium

Thank you for allowing me to receive this scholarship. I
realize that you have made sacrifices and have given so
graciously in order to fund this scholarship that I am
receiving. I appreciate your concern and generosity in

London Gibson, Muldrow

Ed & Denise Bell Scholarship Recipient
I want to thank you for establishing this scholarship in honor of the
people who went to the seminary. This letter does not completely
convey how much I appreciate you establishing this scholarship. For
someone who is striving for so much and knows that it will take a
long time to get there, it means a lot that people care enough about
education to establish a scholarship to help students like me.
Jaclyn True, Pryor
Senior, Biology
Descendants of Cherokee Seminaries Scholarship Recipient
You have helped to relieve my overall cost of attendance for the next
year. Your contribution will allow me to focus more time and energy
towards learning new information, maintaining my grade point average,
and achieving my academic goals. Your generosity has helped make a
bachelor’s degree tangible. I truly appreciate being given this award. I
intend to do well in order to make you proud. Thank you so very much!
Kaitlin Napier, Muskogee
Junior, Biology
Descendants of Cherokee Seminaries Scholarship Recipient
I want to personally and genuinely thank Dr. Alexa Gooden for
the sacrifices made in order for me and many other students to
pursue our academic dreams. Without financial, mental, and
emotional support from Dr. Gooden and all the other donors
involved in scholarship distribution, many students’ academic
dreams would not be feasible nor attainable. For this, I thank
you from the bottom of my heart.
Kindra McKee, Rogers, AR
Graduate Student, Nursing Education

I have dreamed of becoming a high school art teacher for many
years. Thanks to your generosity, I am closer to the college career

for helping me achieve my goals.

MEMORIAL BENCHES
Rest a while, read a book, talk to a friend. Creating a more user-friendly, comfortable environment is the inspiration behind the Northeastern State University Foundation’s
Memorial Bench Program.
The goal is to place handsome practical park benches that complement the campus landscaping and traffic patterns, and offer visitors, as well as students, faculty, and staff, the
opportunity to relax and enjoy the beauty that surrounds them.
History and tradition are the hallmarks of the Tahlequah Campus, founded on the site of the Cherokee National Female Seminary. The addition of benches throughout campus
enhances the historical appeal of Oklahoma’s oldest institution of higher education and provides a lasting legacy for generations of NSU students.
Through the generosity of friends and alumni of NSU, the first benches, made possible through the Memorial Bench Program, were placed on campus during the spring of 2002.
Each bench includes a copper nameplate honoring the donor or the individual in whose memory the bench is endowed.
Many friends of the University have already committed to endow benches, and others are considering benches for memorials and honorary gifts. To endow a bench requires a
tax-deductible contribution of only $1,500. For more information, contact the NSU Foundation.

WAYS TO GIVE
The NSU Foundation helps fulfill NSU’s mission to empower students, faculty, staff and the community to reach their
full intellectual and human potential by creating and expanding a culture of learning, discovery and diversity.
Gifts of Cash
Cash is the most common form of gift that comes
to the NSU Foundation. Your gift of cash, like other
gifts, can be directed to any fund, specific scholarship,
or program, which are listed on pages 26-29.
Gifts of Securities or Real Property
Contributions of stock or real estate with appreciated
value are another way to lend support. When the
NSU Foundation acquires your gift of appreciated
stock or property, you receive a tax deduction equal to
its fair market value and avoid costly capital gains tax
on the increase in value.
Gifts-in-Kind
Your donations of software, licenses, services, vendor
products, art, books, and other property also support
the mission and programs of NSU. These gifts-inkind allow us to use our resources for other needs
while you get a credit for your support. Contact us
for guidelines and acceptance policy regarding giftsin-kind.
Charitable Gift Annuities
A deferred gift, such as a charitable gift annuity, is
a great way to make a significant contribution. In
exchange for your gift of cash or property, the NSU
Foundation guarantees you a lifetime of income.
Charitable Remainder Trust
Your charitable remainder trust can be funded
during your lifetime or through a testamentary
disposition. Each provides life income for designated
beneficiaries, which can include you.
Life Insurance
Naming the NSU Foundation as the owner and
beneficiary of your life insurance policy is also an
option, especially when your policy has a face amount
that is much greater than the amount you can afford
to give in cash. This ensures that future premium
payments made by you are tax-deductible. Pay the
entire policy, or make annual contributions to the
NSU Foundation for the cost of premiums.
Wills and Trusts
The NSU Foundation can also be named as
beneficiary in the wills and trusts of Northeastern
alumni and friends. You can elect to leave all or part
of an estate to benefit the university.
The NSU Foundation Guardian Society honors
individuals with outstanding discernment—a special
group of visionaries who look beyond the present to
the future of our university. This includes friends of
Northeastern who are heroes to the students whose
lives are changed through their generosity.
By naming the NSU Foundation in their wills or
trusts, these individuals have designated all or a
portion of their estate to be used for endowment or
other special purposes. Honorees also include those
who have arranged a charitable gift annuity with the
NSU Foundation. These philanthropic donors are
sharing their assets with NSU, while maintaining an
economic stream for their lifetime.
Other members have made the NSU Foundation
a beneficiary of their life insurance or retirement
plan accounts. These donors invest in the future
of Northeastern, and in doing so, reaffirm their
commitment to permanence.
Leave a Lasting Legacy with an
Endowment
When you establish an endowment with the NSU
Foundation, you:
»»Enable Perpetual Support
Your gift toward an endowed fund creates neverending support for students, faculty, and programs.
»»Ensure a Strong Future
Your endowment is an investment in the future
of Northeastern State University. As it grows, the
university gains additional support.
»»Enact a Lasting Legacy
Your endowed fund is a wonderful way to pay
tribute to a family member, loved one, classmate, or
professor. Created in perpetuity, your endowment
has a long lasting legacy associated with NSU.
Endowed funds are reminders of the great support
provided by those who came before.
Be sure to consult with a qualified professional
before you draft your will or trust, and review it
often. Sample language is available for any of the
bequests listed above. For additional information
on donations, wills, bequests, gift acceptance policy,
or planned giving in general, please contact the
NSU Foundation at 918-458-2143.
