As we worked in our garden after the cold weather and early light frost that we have had we found that the tender plants were frozen black while the plants
growing beside them were still green and standing straight up. It takes more than a little frost to take the life from the strong plants, just as some plants are
more tender than others so are some people. God has made all kinds of people with different characteristics and the road of life for each one is different. There
are the strong who can withstand the worst storms that life brings to them while those who are more tender bend with the slightest breeze. Whether a person is
tender or strong God has made us so that we need each other and he wants us all to be tender hearted. In Ephesians 4:32 we read, “An be kind to one another,
tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you”.

Al Salvucci, husband of Marjorie nee Hofman, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the age of 73 years. From the time of their marriage in 1981 Al and
Marjorie have lived in Calgary AB. Along with their regular jobs they worked together making woodwork and handcraft items and many will remember seeing
their booth at the craft shows and sales. Our sympathy goes to Marjorie and her daughter and son as well as to Janette, Hilgonda, Gertie, Nellie, Dick and
Ralph, in-laws of Al.
Bill Young of Monarch passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St. Theresa Villa in Lethbridge. An interment service was held on Wednesday,
September 10 at Mountain View Cemetery with Pastor Bob Derrick officiating. Bill was employed at one time at Noble Cultivators and also found a great deal
o f pleasure in raising ostrich. Our sympathy goes to Bill’s family.
It is the end of the growing season and once again we have been showered with an abundant harvest. As we reap from in excess of what we need there are still
those who go to bed hungry every night. The Food Banks and Soup Kitchens do their best to help people in need, but they are dependent on donations to carry
out their work. Both food items and monetary gifts are greatly appreciated.

The autumnal equinox has officially ushered in the season of autumn. A poem written by Lucille Crumley and entitled “Autumn
Weather” says it so beautifully:
God touched His hand to the maple tree
An added touch is in the sky
And turned the leaves to gold for me
When autumn clouds float lazily by—
Here and there in pattern bold,
When the moon comes out at night,
Reds, show brilliant through the gold
A disc of shimmering silver white
Like a gem amid the green
Blends the earth and heaven together
In ever-changing color scene.
In the misty haze of autumn weather.
* Yes, the month of September brings many changes for everyone. Summer vacations are but memories, routines are once again the order
of the day – our occupations, school, extra curricular activities, meetings, and whatever interests one might have are governed by the clock.
We have to be on time.
* On Sept. 7th the new office bearers were installed. A Commissioning Service held on Sept. 14th ushered in the new season of church
activities. Everyone who assumed leadership roles in the church were once again challenged to use their skills and talents to God’s
glory. Phil 4:13 – “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength”.
* GEMS began their new season on Sept. 22nd with a “jaunt” through the Corn Maze. Weekly meetings will commence on Oct. 6th from
4:00-6:15 p.m. at the church.
* The date for the CADETS’ new season has not been set but will likely commence in October.
* COFFEE BREAK AND TOT TIME is scheduled to begin on Oct. 1st. Once again the women of the Community and surrounding area
are invited to a time of Bible Study. Nursery is provided for children under the age of three. Story Hour welcomes all children 3-5 years of
age. Bible stories, games, crafts and snacks are the order of the day.
* THANKSGIVING DAY is on Monday, Oct. 13th. Take a few moments out of your day to give thanks for the many blessings that we
enjoy from day to day – our families, our homes, our work, food and drink, our country and the many freedoms that we enjoy. Let us not take
these blessing for granted. Have a blessed and safe holiday weekend.

Congratulations also to first time grandparents, Glen and Sonya Wever.

bless you with many years of happiness.

Senior’s News

Hello Seniors
What a nasty surprise the weather gave us. Snow in September!! You could think we were near Christmas instead of
Thanksgiving.
Heritage Day was a great success. Our Senior Centre seemed to be bursting at the seems at times, as so many people
came to partake of our refreshments and bake sale which was soon devoured to the last crumb.
So a big thank you to everybody who came and enjoyed our goodies, and also to all the people who worked behind the
scenes preparing everything.
A few of our members have some health issues and we wish them a speedy recovery.
In September our Pancake Breakfast starts again on the 4th Wednesday of the month and I am sure many people are
looking forward to this.
All activities are as usual. 1st Wednesday - blood pressure. 3rd Wednesday - meeting day and weekly meetings are
Tuesday 1-3pm Ladies crafting. Wednesday 9:15am coffee morning and Friday 1-3pm poof for men (not swimming!)
We hope to see some more people join us. Give us a try. We promise we do not bite!!!

Mayor’s Message
Summer is officially over and we are experiencing some of the nicest weather of the year. Let's hope we don't see any more snow for a long
time.
Myself, Councillor Don Vincent and Kirk Hofman, our CAO are off to Edmonton for the annual AUMA Conference. We have scheduled
meetings with the Minister of Education regarding the Modernization of Noble Central School and with the Minister of Transportation in
regards to our infamous 519/Hwy 23 intersection. We will report the results at a later date.
We are one of (if not the only) a few communities in Alberta that do NOT have a "Franchise Fee" for Utility Services. The question was again
brought up recently at Council and again we said NO! Yes, we have the lowest taxes in the Province but we do not intend to install additional
fees to your services any time soon. Our big industrial power and gas users would find a "Franchise Fee" to be very expensive as we all would
to a lesser degree as home owners and taxpayers. We do try to leave as much of your hard earned money as possible in your pockets. It's
another reason for calling Nobleford home.
Thanks to the Ag Society for their most recent addition to Kenex (Blade) Park. It looks terrific! Well done! This is just another example of
some of the great things the Ag Society has done for our Community over the years. They certainly have put the effort into making Nobleford
look great.
On the other hand, we have seen some vandalism in the area lately. The washrooms at the soccer fields seem to be a favourite target as well as
the old change room shack behind the Community Complex. Everyone reading this can relate to boredom at some time in their lives but
defacing property belonging to someone else is a poor choice as a cure. We all have to pay for the cleanup and the penalties if you are caught
can be severe. I recently was able to sit in with Mrs. Lamb's grade 6 class and talk about what they see as Village issues. Vandalism was one
of the big ones. If this bothers the grade 6 students, it should certainly bother us. Find something for our youth to do. We need young people
to take part in the community, not try and take it apart. Let's all help. Report vandalism yes...but maybe come up with suggestions to relieve
the boredom. School sports? Clubs? Skate Park? Bike? Roller Blade? Helping others? Please contact myself or the Village office if you have
suggestions. Nobleford does look great! Let's keep it like that.

The AIR CONDITIONED NOBLEFORD COMMUNITY COMPLEX gym is available for rent with a 478 person capacity, a licensed kitchen
equipped to serve 300, microwave, fridge, cooler, ice freezer, 2 stoves, and commercial dish sanitizer. Athletic equipment such as Basket
Ball, Volleyball equipment is included in rental. The upstairs meeting room is equipped with fridge, microwave, sink, for gatherings up to 60
people. A quality permanent BOSE Public Address system is available for all users. Microphone, cables and stands are available at the
Village office. You may plug your mp3, cell phone, laptop, cd player in to the south wall mini amplifier ¼” outlets (1/8” adapter available) be
sure to set selector accordingly. Complimentary internet is provided by PLATINUM. This is a NO SMOKING public facility. Those smoking
are responsible for damages and subject to prosecution. For Bookings, contact the Village office.
Volunteer involvement provided by: NOBLEFORD COMMUNITY COMPLEX SOCIETY.

All Nobleford residents or property tax payers are eligible for a 30% discount.

Due to the variety of uses of this facility on a daily basis, there is a no charge 2 hours allowance for banquette activities for set up
and cleaning, providing this time is not booked by a paying customer. This gives you time to clean and prepare the facility to your
satisfaction. We recommend that you cover the plastic tables with your own table cloths. Additional Janitor service is available for a
fee.
The full rental fee is required at time of Booking. $200 refundable security deposit is due before receiving keys.
A 50% refund of rental fee is given if cancelled with 30 day’s notice. 100% of the cancellation penalty credit can be used towards future
rentals within 5 years. There is No charge for date change. You are required to make arrangements with the Village office to pick up and
return keys. It is the renter’s responsibility to clean the facility and lock the facility at the close of your activity. The Village reserves the right
to deny rental, or amend rates without notice. Please use the main entry located on the North center of the Building. The service entrance on
the North east is for kitchen service and upstairs meeting room access.
Security/Key deposit is $200.00. Charge for NSF cheques is $100.00. Deposit will be returned after 30 days of event.
The Security / Key Deposit refund will be returned to the renter when:
- Keys and used dish clothes, towels have been returned, clean and dry to the Village Office.
- An inspection of the premises confirms the complex is clean and not left in an unacceptable condition.
- Broken items charged at replacement cost if reported to the Village of Nobleford, double if not reported.
- Dry mop, sweep, vacuum facility. Place garbage bags outside in North East fenced area, replace garbage bags in all garbage cans.
-Wash and DRY all items, cutlery, dinnerware, serving carts, Fridge, cooler, tables, chairs, countertops, sinks and toilets
-WET MOP kitchen, bathroom, entry, hallway and gym floors.
- Cleaning equipment and supplies, toilet paper, paper hand towels for bathroom and hand soap are in the Janitor supply room or kitchen.
- Instruction for the commercial dish sanitizer use is pasted on the wall in the kitchen. This is NOT a dishwasher.
- Please follow food handling and cleaning instructions provided by CHR Health Unit, posted in the kitchen.
- All chairs, tables and athletic equipment must be properly organized and stored after use, view pictures on the wall of storage area.

Is a community-based group of volunteers that was created with one common goal in mind.
“To provide the students at Noble Central School with extra funds to assist in creating more
opportunities for field trips to science centres, extra curricular activities and various camps, just to name
a few”.
Noble Central School is a small school (one of a couple of K-12 left). We as a group have come to realize that
more can be done to provide additional funding and support and to create more opportunities that the students
themselves will benefit from.
The NPA is desperately searching for volunteers. REMEMBER—just a fraction of someone's time and/or
support goes a long way in achieving our goal.

Use of the Nobleford Community Complex at no charge !
The Nobleford Community complex is available to Village of Nobleford residents at no charge providing:
-That the facility is not booked by a fee paying user.
-The activity is open to the community.
-No Fee will be charged related to the activity.
-The facility is to be booked through the Village office using standard forms and procedures.
-$100 refundable security deposit is required.
-The activity shall be publicly advertised for at least 7 days.
-The activity may be posted in the bulletin board by the complex and post office.
Activities such as; athletic activities, musical jam sessions, movie nights, social activities are all possible.
Any fundraising activities are subject to a fee unless associated with Nobleford Community Complex Society ( NCCS)
The Village of Nobleford will grant the NCCS use of the facility at no fee unless their event activities generate
revenue.
If the majority of the NCCS complex event or activity revenues (51%), hosted by NCCS or their associates, go toward
the Village of Nobleford Complex expenses, no fee will be charged.
Did you clean up after your licensed pet on a leash?
If not, please be a considerate and responsible pet owner and do so,
that way you can avoid $100 fines. License fees are only $ 40 each or $20 if spayed or neutered for up to a maximum 2
dogs or 3 cats per house hold,

Can I park my car in front of my neighbors house ?
YES,
The streets are public property for all to use unless stated otherwise.
Can I park my Truck and Trailer on the residential streets of Nobleford ?
NO
Bylaw #585; No person shall park any commercial vehicle, bus or motor home, truck, engine, trailer or truck of the design capacity of
more than 1 tonne or a length of more than six metres on any highway other than the designated truck route.
-All trailers, including RV trailers must be hitched to a vehicle at all times and only temporary parking on residential streets is allowed,
unless you have permission from the Village. TEMPORARY means, a reasonable amount of time to load or unload the trailer.
If you require more than 4 hours of parking you should make a request to the Village office in advance in order to avoid possible towing
and fines.
- You may park a semi tractor or bus or RV, including hitch or attachments, on your private property. Please identify where your property
line is, do not assume it is the sidewalk.

A POSSIBLE NEW ADDITION TO NOBLEFORD’S “ DOWN TOWN”
What is done with my property taxes ?
In 2014 , the Village is budgeting;
to spend approximately $1,900,000, one million nine hundred thousand dollars.
to acquire revenues of nearly $1,500,000, one million five hundred thousand dollars, from sources other than property taxation.
to collect $ 406,000, total, through property taxes, and $45,000 from levies.
to retain approximately $100,000 of property taxes collected for Village use.
to send $290,000 of property taxes to ALBERTA SCHOOL FOUNDATION FUND.
to send $14,000 of property taxes to GREEN ACRES FOUNDATION, Seniors Housing.
In 2014 the Village will keep approximately $100,000. one hundred thousand dollars, 25%, of the $406,000 property tax collected. Most of
your property taxes, 75%, are passed on to the Provincial government to spend on schools and some for seniors housing. The Village does not
tax the school and tax on the Rose Butte seniors apartments is under $500 per year.
NOTICE: October 6th to 9th SEWER FLUSHING
As part of the municipal maintenance program the sewer main lines are power flushed on an annual basis. This program
corrects excessive blockage in the sewer main lines and ensures long term benefits to the system and sewer lines. Power
flushing involves forcing large volumes of water down the main sewer lines at high pressure. At times, some water will work its
way up a sewer service lateral line to a resident’s home or industrial or commercial building. A result of this action could see
water forcing its way up through the toilet and floor drains. During the days of flushing, please ensure that your floor drain is
plugged off and your toilet seats are down.

As the leaves on the trees change to more golden hues, painted by Jack Frost himself, we are reminded fall is just around the corner. With the
summer season coming to a close, the Museum will be returning to its “open by appointment” schedule. If you would like make a visit to the
Museum, please call one of the numbers listed at the top of the page. We have had great visitor attendance this summer. On behalf of museum
members, I’d like to thank Kaven Manyshots for the awesome job she did
this summer at the Museum. All your hard work was very much appreciated!
The last couple months have been busy ones for the society members.
HERITAGE DAY saw one of the best days for visitor attendance; a number
of kids/youth took part in our temporary glitter tattoo fundraiser. A float
commemorating the Museum Society’s 25th Anniversary was entered in the
parade in the “non-commercial” category. Thank you to all those involved in
making the day such a success.
The unveiling of our short film, “A NOBLE VISION” was one of the highlight of the summer for the Museum Society.
The following paragraphs were submitted by Museum Society
President, Julie Pike.
“On August 22 the Museum Society was proud to present a première of their
short film “A Noble Vision” at Noble Central School. Shadow Light
Productions out of Canmore had been hired to produce the film, with the intent to have it be a part of the Noble Cultivator display at the
Museum. Members of the Museum Society spent many hours going through written material, photos, negatives and 16mm film relating to
Noble Cultivators. With the guidance of the husband and wife team of
Rachel Gauk and Doug Latimer, images were chosen to be
used in the film, some of which had never been seen by the
volunteers. The film is an overview of the region’s arrival
of homesteaders, including C.S. Noble, his
accomplishments, development of the Noble Blade and
construction of both factories. Part of the project, which
took about a year to complete, was the creation of an
interview archive for the Museum. Again, Museum
members spent a great deal of time contacting as many of
the oldest former employees as possible as well as
individuals who gave some insight into the workings of the
factory. Those people and some of their spouses were
interviewed and excerpts from those interviews were used
in the film to help tell the story. The Society is indebted to
those individuals who shared their stories with us.

The interviews gave the Museum an invaluable resource that will
undoubtedly be drawn on in the future
The Museum Society was pleased to welcome MLA Bridget Pastoor and
MLA Ian Donovan to the invitational screening, as well as representatives
from the local municipality, interviewees, and former volunteers of the
Museum Society. Following the screening everyone had a chance to visit
while enjoying refreshments and later Ms. Pastor and Mr. Donovan
toured the Museum. In the evening a public showing was held that was
also well attended.
Nothing gets done without the help of others, and with that being said, the
Museum Society appreciated the extra effort Shadow Light Productions
made to secure equipment for the screening, as well as the support of
Noble Central School and Principal Kathy Oviatt. Thank you too to
Brenda Vreeken, Lorne and Crystal Cervo for their help with the première
as well those who stayed to clean up after the event.
On a personal note, I would like to thank the Museum Society volunteers
for all of their time and hard work that went into the film project and organizing the premiere. Time after time, this hard working group of
volunteers put in many hours of work and ask for nothing in return. The work they do often goes unrecognized and without their dedication
nothing the Museum has been able to accomplish would have been possible. I am truly blessed to work with such a wonderful group of
individuals and thank them from the bottom of my heart.

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, a small group of eight ventured out to SCABBY
BUTTE, where Don Zech talked about the
paleontological and archaeological aspects of the surrounding area. Lee Moltzahn
spoke to the group about rangeland health assessments on native prairie, in addition to
an informal native plant identification session. The group was also shown the exposed
remains of a Pachyrhinosaurus skeleton.
As the museum correspondent for the village newsletter, I’d like to encourage you all

SUBJECT: Lateral utility sewer and water services
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
ADOPTED & APPROVED BY COUNCIL. Sept 2, 2014
RESOLUTION NO
#277-2014
PURPOSE; To establish guidelines for responsibility of all lateral utility lines, including but not limited to water and sewer lines,
servicing residential and some commercial and industrial properties.
∗ A Municipal lateral service utility line, including but not limited to sewer and water lines, is defined as that portion of the utility
line that lies between the Municipal main line and the building.
∗ On original installations of the lateral sewer and water lines the owners will be responsible for all costs from the lateral service
connection from the main line to the building. Stub lines, and valves may be provided into the property and this cost is to be
recovered through the original land sale price.
∗
Maintenance of the complete lateral sewer and water lines to the main line will be the responsibility of the property owners.
∗ Costs of replacement or repair of the lateral service sewer and or water line to the main line shall be paid in full by the
property owner. This includes the portion of lateral sewer line on the Village owned property and road repair, curb, gutter and
boulevard repair as well as labour and administration costs.
∗ In special circumstance the Village may share the cost on water line or sewer line repair or replacement, on the portion of the
repair outside of the owner’s property.
∗
Anyone causing damage to any water or sewer line will be responsible for all costs of repair.
∗ The property owner must receive authorization from the Village prior to excavation and repair of all sewer and water lines.
Utility locates must be conducted “ Alberta One Call Before You Dig 1-800-242-3447”. The Village will cooperate in an efficient
and effective manner and supply advice, recommendations, information, materials and equipment at cost, and will supervise the
project.
∗ In the event of reconstruction or repair of the main sewer line on the Village property, the Village may consider replacement or
repair of a portion of the entire lateral service water and or sewer lines, from the building to the main line, on a cost share basis
with the property owner.
∗ After 1 year of titled ownership or upon entering into a Land Purchase Agreement with the Municipality, all property owners
will be required to pay Municipal utility service fees even if they chose not to service property or have buildings without services,
this also applies to vacant properties unless a demolition permit has been issued.

The Village of Nobleford offers sewer line cleaning with a snake auger, if cleaning can be scheduled during regular
working hours (8am-3pm Monday through Friday excluding Holidays) to all Nobleford residents at a charge of $40.
If you request sewer cleaning outside of regular hours, and if staff is available to provide the service, there is a cost
recovery charge of $100.00
Any unpaid bills may be transferred to property tax accounts.
This cleaning is not considered preventative but rather an emergency service.

Centennial Celebrations August 6-12, 2018
Centennial Society members are still plugging away at plans for the Centennial celebrations. Please keep in mind our tentative celebration
dates of August 6-12, 2018. We hope to be in discussion with other community groups soon to better collaborate and organize this special
time in the life of our community. I had intended to be in contact with many of you much sooner, but my job location this summer didn’t
allow for that, my apologies.
On HERITAGE DAY, the Centennial Society entered a float, which received first
place in the parade in the “cultural” category. A picture of the Centennial float was
featured in the Sunny South News! Thank you very much to the members who worked
diligently on putting together the float and manned it during the parade. Special thanks
are also owed to our candy throwers, Sarah and Hannah McIntyre, and Michelle
Gullickson; to Shelby Kooy for riding the buggy and representing the younger
generation; to Keith Konynenbelt for ensuring the buggy could be towed by the quad;
and to Gertie Hofman who lent her buggy to the Centennial Society.
Our CENTENNIAL SLOGAN CONTEST which was circulated during the parade
garnered 18 ballots. The members are in the process of reviewing the entries and
deciding on a winner. The winner will be announced in the next newsletter.
The winning slogan will be used on all advertising and centennial promotional items.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit a ballot.
Our next Centennial Society meeting will be held at 7:30 pm on October 20, 2014 at the Nobleford Area Museum.

Sincere sympathy to the family of Delores Plomp (March 15, 1930 – Aug. 31, 2014). She was predeceased by her husband William on June
6, 2014. She is survived by her three daughters, Dianne (Tony) Wolak of Shaughnessy, Carol (Tracy) Beglaw of Nobleford, and Kathy (Tim)
McNichol of Nobleford, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Delores & William were long time residents of Nobleford.
