February 2016 - Gleneagles Country Club
the Eagle Gleneagles Country Club FEBRUARY 2016 CLUB NEWS Dear Members, We want to wish you and your family a Happy and a Healthy New Year. The December Holiday Season just keeps getting better and it was wonderful to see all of our families and friends enjoying the club facilities. Food and Beverage saw its fifth busiest day since the inception of Gleneagles topping 1400 meals on December 27. A big thank you to our staff for the wonderful Ralph Winer job of keeping our member and guest services at the wonderful bog president level that they have come to expect. The Gleneagles Masquerade New Year’s Eve Party looked stunning. We had a wonderful evening at the club to ring in the New Year, both at the Masquerade Ball and at the casual New Year’s Eve dinner in the Grille Room. Both celebrations were well attended and received rave reviews from the membership. The Healthy Lifestyle Initiative has been well received by our membership. Our lectures included Medicine Awareness, Techniques to Reduce Stress and Improving Movement with Kraig Spina Less Pain. Our Nutritionist, Maureen Buchbinder, has been general working with both our members and staff to assist in healthy manager options from both the buffet and our a la carte menus. The Fitness Center has numerous activities including Moonlight Yoga and Walk, Meditation, Nutrition workshops and 5K training that have all been tremendous successes. The Board, Committees and Leadership staff continue to work on the Phase II initiative which includes the Fitness Center, multi-purpose venue, pool and pool Surrounding area. As information becomes available it will be communicated to our membership. Architectural conceptual renderings of the proposed Fitness Center and pool area will be the next update. Don’t forget, the Board of Governors election ballots are due by 5:00 pm on February 22. On February 23, we will hold the Annual Membership Meeting at 8:00 pm in the Legends Dining Room where we will announce your 2016 Board of Governors in addition to annual reports from the Club President, Ralph Winer and the Club Treasurer, Richard Hotz. Committees are a very important part of Gleneagles Country Club. As such, we are making our best efforts to afford all members who desire to serve on a committee an opportunity to do so. This is accomplished by establishing a protocol for serving on committees which limits the amount of time a member may serve on the same committee. We encourage all members that have an interest to apply for a committee, and for those that may be ending their term on one committee to consider applying for another committee of interest. Committee application forms will be mailed to all members in early March and are to be returned to the club by March 16. Round Table Breakfast meetings will continue through February to discuss the upcoming Renovation and other relevant club events. Contact Varto Hairanian at 4983606 ext. 131 or [email protected] to inquire about available dates. Respectfully yours, Ralph Winer, President Kraig Spina, General Manager BOARD MEETING • Thursday, February 18 at 2:00 pm Open to all members. Members may speak at Board Meetings for no longer than three minutes about any items on the agenda. A sign-up sheet will be available at the Concierge Desk after the agenda is posted, and a sign-up sheet will be available in the meeting room prior to its start. 2 February 2016 7667 Victory Lane Delray Beach, FL 33446 561-498-3606 • 800-535-4536 FAX 561-498-5838 www.gleneagles.cc CLUB PHONE NUMBERS Clubhouse. . . . . . . . . . . . . 498-3606 Reservations . . . . . . . . . . . 498-4003 Security . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 921-9999 Golf Shop . . . . . . . . . . . . . 496-1333 Tennis Shop. . . . . . . . . . . . 499-0211 Chelsea Tee Times. . . . . . . 637-1208 Fitness Center. . . . . . . . . . 495-2806 Membership Office. . . . . . 498-0707 2015-2016 BOARD OF GOVERNORS RALPH WINER. . . . . . . . . . . If you have any questions please let me know. 6 February 2016 Kick ball, water balloons, putting, driving and fun! $25 per day. Please call 496-1333 to sign up! PRO GOLF TIP PUTTING “Oh boy!” That is what many of us say when someone mentions putting. We all seem to have trouble in putting, whether we hit it too hard or too soft, have trouble getting the feel for the day, or it seems we are just reading it wrong. The length of the stroke on both sides of the ball is so important to our speed and our direction of the putt. Remember that if you do not have the proper speed, the direction really doesn’t matter. A good thing to do is try and use the width of your feet to determine the length of your putting stroke. For example, for a small putt put your feet closer together, for a medium putt spread them out a little, and on a longer putt spread them out even more to provide for balance and also the length of the stroke for both sides of the ball. Always remember, soft hands and try to eliminate the use of your wrist in putting. It is all arms and shoulders. Hope this tip helps you eliminate some three-putts! Stop in and chat golf if you have any further questions. – Joe the Eagle FEBRUARY GOLF EVENTS Ladies Clinics and Family Fun at the Holidays! I have been very busy regripping clubs. I have been noticing during lessons the need for new grips and more importantly the need for having the proper size grip. Grips are not one size fits all and should be fit accordingly by one of the golf professionals. Please come see us with any questions regarding grips. Tee time requests and recurring requests continue to come in at a steady pace. Members have the ability to control these requests either through the Pro Shop or on their computer through the Gleneagles website. For help accessing the website and doing requests on your own, please come see me and I would be more than happy to teach you. We want to make sure everyone is posting scores to their handicap. There are still 21 tennis courts since Court #1 has been transformed to a hard court but there are now two Pickleball courts on either side of the tennis net with movable Pickleball nets. The court has been constructed of asphalt with an independent drainage system and an extra layer of Laykold Cushion Plus on the surface to produce a court softer and easier on the body than a regular hard court. The color of the exterior court is Tournament Green and the Pickleball playing surface is Bimini Blue. There are both tennis and Pickleball lines on the surface with Pickleball sporting the predominant white lines with MIKE PUC, muted purple lines for the tennis lines. uspta All players must be Tennis members to play Pickleball. Now that is some consistency. Putting the ball in the court should be your #1 strategy to winning. Too many mistakes are made on the first three hits in a rally, depriving players of rhythm and confidence. Make the serve, return and first hit, and you will gain momentum and concentration. To improve concentration, try counting 5 hits in a row over the net. You may not break the Guinness record, but if you consistently make 5 returns over the net, you will win many matches. the Eagle HEALTH & FITNESS CLASS SCHEDULE FITNESS AQUACISE Monday9:30 am - 10:30 am Tuesday9:30 am - 10:30 am Wednesday9:30 am - 10:30 am Thursday9:30 am - 10:30 am Friday9:30 am - 10:30 am Saturday11:00 am - 12:00 pm BARRE/PILATES MAT Saturday5:30 pm - 6:30 pm CARDIO SCULPT* Monday7:30 am - 8:15 am Monday8:15 am - 9:00 am Wednesday7:30 am - 8:15 am Wednesday8:15 am - 9:00 am MEDITATION Wednesday5:30 pm - 6:00 pm POUND SCULPT Thursday7:00 am - 7:45 am SIT TO BE FIT Monday10:30 am - 11:30 am Wednesday10:15 am - 11:15 am Friday9:45 am - 10:45 am Sunday10:15 am - 11:15 am STRENGTH Healthy Heart Month! GLENEAGLES COUNTRY CLUB Greetings Gleneagles! by ralph perfetto, director of security My name is Ralph Perfetto. I am your new Security Director. I have been employed at Gleneagles since early December 2015. I was a Deputy Director at St. Andrews Country Club for a brief time while awaiting this opportunity. Prior to that assignment, I enjoyed a 21 year career with the NYPD and retired as a Lieutenant. I lived in Manhattan for many years which allowed me to become diversified in many cultures. Although I am here to provide you with a safe environment to live in, please feel free to contact me with any other concerns that you may have. I look forward to meeting and working with all of the residents here at Gleneagles Country Club! Here are five important safety tips: • Be aware of your surroundings! Many auto accidents occur while simply not paying attention to the road in front you. Talking on the phone and texting are two prime examples. • Be attentive when backing out of a parking spot! Be aware of waiting cars and others who might be backing out at the same time as you. • Park in well-lit areas! If lighting is inadequate, please notify Gleneagles management. • Always come to a complete stop at a stop sign! We have many residents, members, employees, etc. that may be waiting to cross the road. They could be on a golf cart, running, or simply just walking. • Always roll up your car windows and lock your car doors!
