WASBC June 2015 newsletter
From The Commodore and Secretary: 2015 Has seen pleasingly steady growth in our Speed Boat Club. The club is slowly gaining strength and momentum once again. We as Commodore and Secretary owe many thanks to all the Committee Members, Volunteers, Helpers, Members, Crews, Divers, Rescue Crews, Medic’s, Race Day Crews, Families and Friends who have helped and supported us through this season. We thank the Drivers of WA Speed Boat Club for your continued participation and congratulate you all on your achievements in your racing this past season. Thank you for keeping it competitive, exciting and safe all in one. We look forward to seeing you all back on the water soon. Thank you to our dedicated committee members of APBA WA Council for your input and help through the past season. Thank you for providing a 25hp Class Boat for the development of the sport and for making the boat available on race days all fuelled up and ready to go. The WA Speed Boat Club is our members club. Without your support and help this club cannot exist. Without this club, speed boat racing will cease to exist in WA. We start off with our AGM. We have emailed Nomination forms to all members. It is up to you members to choose the 2015/2016 Committee to lead the WA Speed Boat Club through the next season’s racing and to manage the club successfully. To ensure the smooth running of the AGM we ask that you please complete and return the Nomination forms to the Secretary Hilary, on email [email protected] as soon as possible. Hilary will then table ballet papers for the evening to ensure a fair election of committee members and office bearers. Needless to say, we need 100% participation at the AGM. So please be there to vote. We are holding our presentation evening in the Swan Room of our Club on the 11th July 2015, starting at 4pm so that we can enjoy the fantastic facility that we have, from the afternoon through the sunset and into the evening. The swan room is a large facility and we need 100 or more people to fill it up. So let’s get going, tickets are for sale at a mere $60-00 per adult and $25-00 children under 12 years. This buys you a Buffet Dinner, catering by Spices. The bar will be open and the music will play. Bookings and payment in advance, please contact our Rear Commodore Peter O’Connell on mobile 0439 760 872 or our Secretary Hilary Motzouris on mobile 0401 082 343. Let’s close this season with a memorable presentation evening. We look forward to seeing you all there with your friends and families. 2014 Presentation Evening In summing this season up, we started off with a very small contingent of boats and drivers. However, as the season moved on the numbers grew, along with the dedicated push of the committee and members we were very pleased to see the return of the 15hp and 25hp classes. Sadly we have lost some Displacement Boats but we hope to see this grow with the introduction of the new inboard class. Hopefully this will lend itself to an affordable and economical class which will attract some new drivers in the not too distant future. There will be an increased focus on the development of new structures for the cruiser class style racing in which we have had some keen interest. We will keep you all posted on developments through the winter months. A few Lads and a Lass have tried their hands in the Tunnels of late so hopefully we may see some movement in numbers in the Tunnel Classes. We have found a source for the Formula 4 Style Racing Tunnels which are readily available for purchase should any parties be interested in F4 racing. We will be arranging some fund raisers through the winter off season and will be calling on members for assistance. Our store room and boat shed are in desperate need of a tidy up and face lift, so please, when we call for work parties let’s see some co-operation from our members. Let’s not forget to support the committee at general meetings during the off season as we have a lot of planning to do for our next race season. The Lake Towerinning race is still on for the weekend 31st October. We have all good intentions of inviting Eastern State Drivers to partake, however certain formalities have to be taken care of before we can proceed successfully. We will keep you all posted. Lake Towerinning After the conclusion of our AGM and the Presentation Evening our new committee will get to work with the setting up of race calendars and formalities for the fourth coming season. Our aim is to improve on existing structures within the management of the club and to keep members well informed so as to ensure a smooth transition into the new season. Sponsorship: The WA Speed Boat Club is a non-profit, self-funded organisation. The WA Speed Boat Club invites expressions of interest from Companies, Businesses Individuals or other, who wish to offer sponsorship towards our club in return for advertising through the media of our Speed Boat Club News Letters, Race Calenders, Race Programs, Facebook Page and on race days and test and tune days. Interested parties please feel free to contact Mark or Hilary Motzouris on 0408 929 600 or email [email protected] or contact any of our Committee Members. See you at the AGM and at our Presentation Evening. Commodore, Mark Motzouris And Secretary, Hilary Motzouris.
