FORMATION In 1991, Leadership Kearney was born as a hybrid of existing leadership programs coupled with the unique needs of Kearney in mind. Participants will be provided with tours, roundtable discussions and speakers that can inspire and train the next generation of leaders in Kearney. See that all board members are active on at least one board committee PARTICIPANTS The selection process is geared toward choosing participants who represent a cross-section of the community, with class members from a variety of professional, educational, political, social and cultural backgrounds. During the first year of the program, members of the class will have opportunities to become educated on various issues, exchange ideas and enhance their leadership skills. During the second year, members will concentrate on participating in session planning committees. NOMINATION Nominations can me made by alumni, employers or individuals by contacting the Chamber at 308-237-4671. Nominations are taken from May 1st - 31st, and nominees are notified by letter in June. Nominees must accept their nomination by applying for the program. TUITION Tuition for the adult program is $450 per participant. Tuition is due in full by August 1st. Financial assistance is available to individuals who may not otherwise be able to participate in LK through a payment plan. The LK Board of Directors also grants a few partial scholarships on the basis of applicant need. APPLICATION Complete applications and two sealed letters of recommendation must be received by the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce by 5:00pm CST on June 1st for consideration. Welcome Picnic Health & Human Services Participants selected for the new class have an opportunity to meet each other, become orientated with the program and network. Tour the healthcare facilities in Kearney and learn about the various human services agencies. Retreat The adult class participate in an overnight retreat that allows them to bond as a class and learn more about the pillars of Kearney. Agriculture, Energy & Environment The community’s energy needs and information about the agricultural industry will be presented. Local Government Meet with various city and county elected officials and learn about our governmental entities and the local facilities. Education Learn about the different educational systems in our area from public to private, elementary to high school and post secondary opportunities. Art, Culture & Recreation Tour the community and surrounding area to learn about various cultural opportunities and hear from local recreational facilities and their programs. State Government Travel to Lincoln to observe the Nebraska Unicameral, visit with state senators and state department directors and have lunch with our Governor. Business & Industry Learn more about the major industries and primary businesses in the area as well as visit local retailers and with entrepreneurs. Graduation Participants who have completed the required criteria take part in a graduation ceremony and luncheon, and begin the planning process for the following year.
