novel The Dragon Can’t
Dance (1979), a book
that has become a
classic text and is an
uproarious and enduring
exultation to Trinidad’s

into Trinidad and Tobago
through its characters, in
particular the calypsonians
(and their families) who
challenged British rule in
the wake of the second
world war, and chose to
