YOUTH IN EUROPE
The Eurochannel Short Films Tour is back for its sixth edition, with a special programming theme: Youth in Europe.
The Eurochannel Short Films Tour has been a successful Eurochannel trademark for the last six years. A unique event, the tour invites viewers to follow
talented directors on a stirring exploration of Europe through short films: with the directors as guides, viewers will be exploring fascinating cultures
through their screens. Almost every European country and region is represented in this edition of the Eurochannel Short Films Tour - each of whose film

On the Eurochannel Short Films Tour, viewers will discover Europe, hear all its languages, and experience inspiring stories that will move them and invite

HOMAGE TO EUROPEAN YOUTH
Youth always equates with the impulse of freedom, risk-taking, idealism and the desire to change the world, and more so than ever in our age. Youth
also brings a sparkling energy, with its questioning, joys and vitality. The 6th Eurochannel Short Films Tour will capture this youthful spirit and treat the
viewers and cinema lovers in 2014.

SIXTH EUROCHANNEL SHORT-FILM TOUR
YOUTH IN EUROPE
Young people have always played a dynamic role in shaping the history of mankind. From
literature to music to cinema, eagerness for change and a different way of seeing the world
keeps young people constantly innovating and offering an alternative way to live. Young
people’s contribution to understanding the impact of changes in the world is now more crucial
than ever, with the constant political and economic shifts. Moreover, as they constitute the
largest segment of population in many regions, the role of youth in shaping their country’s
response to culture is vital, and so is their way of depicting the world through images in
cinema.
Thanks to the youth from both past and present, our societies reached signficant milestones
in myriad fashions, from cultural, economic, and political aspects. In politics, for example, the
May 1968 events in France, the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, and the Anonymous movement
have broken the establishment’s rules; in music, the Beatles changed the way we listen to
music; in the arts, Bansky and Invader have turned art into an irreverent statement shaping
European cities; and in cinema Pier Paolo Pasolini led the way to innovations in style and
subject matter.
During the Eurochannel Tour, viewers will come across new filmmakers on their way to becoming
stars, and short cinematic masterpieces paying tribute to youth with dazzling stories. Through
inspirational messages of hope portrayed in these productions, talented directors and actors
- such as the multiple award-winning Italian director Vito Palmieri - capture elements that are
unique to young people.
In this event which pays tribute to a much-underestimated stage of life, Eurochannel has
broken down its selections into eight programs, as no single genre could have been left out.
Dramas, comedies, animated productions, mini-documentaries, and experimental short films
will deliver original tales about coming of age, childhood, young adulthood and much more.
Youth and their contributions to European society in all its aspects is the complex and diverse
inspiration for this new edition of the Eurochannel Short Films Tour. Follow Eurochannel on a
journey to celebrate European youth and be certain that even in the most challenging times,
«youth is happy because it has the ability to see beauty,» as Franz Kafka said.
