The PGA Professionals of the Northbrook Golf Academy
welcome you to another fun and exciting golf season.
Under the direction of Michael Wenzel, PGA-Certified
Director of Instruction, the Academy focuses on a step-bystep approach—whether you are new to the game or an
accomplished player. Our coaches help support your learning
and development, as you strive to reach your goals and have more fun playing golf.
Take the first step toward playing better today, and sign up for group or private lessons.
Grow with the Program
Between the ages of 3-14, children can enjoy spring, summer and fall programs from the
NGA. Every step of the way, our team of coaches works with and guides children as they
learn to play the game. Children have a chance to progress through one of the levels
each summer or participate in youth camps, golf leagues and travel teams.
Better Instruction Through Technology
The NGA uses the revolutionary TrackMan® Doppler radar system for instruction and
clubfitting. TrackMan measures the full trajectory of any shot, analyzes the swing, and
delivers data on club movement, ball launch and landing. High-speed video analysis is
also available. Test and assess your skills with TrackMan’s 60-shot Combine Challenge.
Measure your strengths and weaknesses, and let a member of our professional staff
devise a practice plan that will take your game to the next level.
5
Adult Golf Instruction
Our group instruction clinics are fun and organized to stimulate learning and build solid
fundamentals. You will receive tailored instruction in areas of the game where you need
the most help. We strive to keep our student/teacher ratio at 6:1 or better.
Get Golf Ready—Level 1
Learn to play with confidence, and enjoy the challenges along the way. Develop your
swing and short game skills while gaining a better understanding of the game. You
will take your newly acquired skills and use them on-course. This level is suitable for
beginners and recreational and returning players.
Get Golf Ready—Level 2
Take your game to the next level on-course, as you target the areas that need the most
improvement with specialized instruction on full swing and short game techniques.
Participants enjoy more time on-course during and after class. This level is best suited
for recreational and intermediate players.
Family Instruction
Parent/Youth Golf Experience (Ages 8-13 with Adult)
Learn to play golf as a family! Classes focus on full swing and short game techniques and
include an on-course playing lesson. Our staff will help you coach your child—on and off
the course. The fee is per parent/child couple. Additional family members can join for an
additional fee. Enjoy stay-and-play packages on the East 9 family course after class.
Private Lessons
Elevate your game with one-on-one instruction to focus on the areas that need the
most improvement. Visit sportsmansgolf.com or call 847·291·2351 for details and to
sign up for lessons. Our instructors will design a step-by-step plan to help you achieve
your goals. On-course lessons and practice sessions on grass are available by request.
6
Youth Golf Development Program
Under the direction of the award-winning Michael Wenzel, PGA Professional, students
focus on skill development and progression through levels with designated benchmarks,
beginning with the basics by practicing their skills on the range and the course.
Little Stars
Check out the greatest invention in golf in the last 50 years: SNAG® (Starting New at
Golf). SNAG is an easy and fun development program that introduces young children to
golf with an innovative approach that combines modified equipment (easy-to-hit balls,
clubs and Velcro-type targets) and exciting programming. With simple rules and terms
that add to the fun, children learn how to swing, putt and chip with just two clubs. It’s
the coolest way to learn golf! Students receive a complimentary round of mini-golf.
Future Stars: Level 1
Introduce children to the game of golf with instruction covering the basics of putting,
chipping and the full swing. Children will learn their way around a golf course.
Future Stars: Level 2
Children continue to explore and enjoy the game. Instruction develops motor skills
and enhances hand-eye coordination for the full swing and short game. The goal is to
familiarize children with supervised on-course play.
NEW! Future Stars: Level 3
Young athletes take the next step in skill development on their journey to becoming avid
golfers. Students will continue to enhance their ball striking and short game skills.
Par Player: Level 4
Students focus on building full swing and short game fundamentals in preparation
for responsible on-course play. We recommend that students pass this level before
participating in youth house leagues.
Birdie Player: Level 5
Players can improve full swing and short game techniques and learn to apply them
on-course at Anetsberger Golf Course and Sportsman’s East 9 Course. More in-depth
training, drills and on-course coaching prepare players for unsupervised play.
7
Northbrook Golf Academy Summer Camps
The NGA offers one-week camps focusing on skills development, course management,
rules, etiquette and objective testing to measure improvement. Camps include
competitions, tournaments, prizes and a gift bag for each participant. Students of all
levels can enjoy daily on-course play, practice on a grass tee at the range, complimentary
rental clubs, discounts on equipment, and games.
Level 1 (Ages 5-7)
Explore the game of golf for the first time, learning basic skills through fun games.
A step-by-step process focuses on fundamentals and skills with daily on-course play.
Level 2 (Ages 7-9)
Golfers continue to explore while improving basic strokes. Students learn about rules,
etiquette and safety while playing on-course at Anetsberger and utilizing the Sportsman’s
practice areas.
Level 3 (Ages 9-12)
Players learn how to manage the course strategically, while enhancing fundamentals and
shot-making skills. Structured practices incorporate skills challenges and competitions to
develop skills under pressure. V1 video swing analysis and TrackMan system technologies
assist instruction. Lunch is included.
Level 4A (Advanced) (Ages 12-14)
Players develop the skills needed to play competitive golf. Our tournament-experienced
staff will cover advanced short game and full swing techniques, as well as course
management, green reading, pre-shot routines, shot selection, mental strategies, practice
and scoring techniques. Players experience daily on-course play and instruction, and they
learn self-reflection techniques to improve future performance. In addition, our TrackMan
system and V1 technology assist with analyzing students’ equipment and swings. Players
take part in fun competitions and skills tests throughout the week. Lunch is included.
Level 4B (Beginner) (Ages 12-14)
Beginner-to-intermediate players learn to play golf recreationally, focusing on full swing,
short game, and on-course shot selection and techniques. Players learn how to get the
most out of their game and develop skills to play with confidence.
8
Northbrook Golf Academy Youth In-House and Travel Leagues
NEW STRUCTURE! NGA Youth Golf League (Ages 8-14)
This season, players can choose a semi-competitive or competitive league to align with their
goals for playing the game. The youth golf leagues play a key role in developing golf skills and
friendships, while providing a safe, welcoming environment for players of all levels.
The Semi-Competitive League allows players to find out if competitive golf is the right fit
for them. The Competitive Player Development League trains and prepares players to
compete on high school teams.
NEW! Semi-Competitive In-House and Travel Leagues (Ages 8-13)
Play golf after school with friends, and see how much fun the game can be. Enjoy one
practice per week and a round of golf at Sportsman’s East 9 Course and Anetsberger
Golf Course. Practice sessions focus on full swing, short game, course management
techniques, and developing a love of the game.
