camp, half and full-day arts

opportunity for high school students to earn college credit for

Campus Kids
Four-Week Session I and II
CAMPUS KIDS —
SESSION I OR II (AGE 6)
Friendly Froglets program will allow our little ones the opportunity
to play constructively, learn the importance of socialization, sharing
and cooperation and allow them to
adjust to new environments and becoming more independent. Campers will follow a daily schedule
which will enable them to be active
and to enjoy the same great fun as
the older campers, but at a more
relaxed pace.
CAMPUS KIDS —
SESSION I OR II (AGES 7-13)
Camp College offers your child
an enriching alternative to the
traditional summer day camp.
Campers combine study in a variety of stimulating subject areas
that emphasize intellectual growth
and skills development with the
fun of recreational activities. Participants choose up to six different
“courses” and most courses meet
55 minutes daily for all four weeks
of each session.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
All children ages 6-13 on September 30, 2016 are eligible. For one
week programs up to age 15, refer
to pages 24-40.
A $25 fee will be charged for
children who arrive earlier
than 7:15am or remain on
campus after 6pm.
WHEN IS IT?
Session I: June 27-July 22
(FOUR weeks; four or five days
per week) Monday-Thursday or
Monday to Friday.
Session II: July 25-Aug 19
FOUR weeks; four or five days per
week) Monday-Thursday or Monday to Friday.
FRIDAY FUN DAYS
The perfect way for campers to end
the week. Friday Fun Days are
available ONLY for those campers
who have chosen the MondayFriday option. See class information on page 18 for Campus Kids.
AFTER-CAMP
Although classes run from
8:30am to 4pm each day, campers may be picked up as late as
6pm. Children enrolled in this
optional program may remain
on campus after 4pm. They will
join Camp College After-Camp
supervised activities, including
optional recreational swimming.

EARLY BIRD BEFORECAMP...SUPERVISED
ACTIVITIES FROM
7:15-8AM!
For those who must drop children off prior to 8am, we offer
an Early Bird Before-Camp.
Children enrolled in this optional
program may be dropped off as
early as 7:15am. Experienced
camp staff will supervise early
arrivals. Daily registrations not
permitted. To register, use the
application form on page 53.
NOTE: Children not enrolled
in the Early Bird Before-Camp
program may be dropped off as
early as 8am.
WHEN DO I REGISTER?
Registration begins January 25.
Register early and avoid
disappointment of filled classes.

The tuition fee includes all camp
activities and materials unless
noted otherwise in individual
course descriptions.
Payment in full is due at time
of registration. Deadline is
two weeks prior to the camp
start date. Avoid the $20 late
fee…Register Early! There
are additional charges for the
Before and After-Camp care
programs.
Campers may bring their own
lunches or purchase meals

Unless otherwise noted, course descriptions are for either age group (7-9) or (10-13)
What activities will
be offered?
• Campers choose six different age-appropriate
courses per session.
• Parents should review child’s choices, especially to
ensure classes are not duplicated in Session I and II.
There is a $20 fee for each requested schedule change.
• Most courses meet for one 55-minute period daily during
each camp session.
• The registration form for your child’s age and session lists
the courses available to your camper.
• All classes must be selected from one age group list. Classes
from both age groups may not be combined.
• NOTE: We will make every effort to schedule you according to your first choices. We will use alternatives only if
others are full or cancelled. The college reserves the right
to cancel courses with insufficient enrollment and to limit
class size. Limited space available.
IMPORTANT: Optional Before Camp and After-Camp programs provide supervised activities from 7:15-8am and from
4-6pm. For the convenience of working parents, children who
arrive on campus either before 8am or remain after 4pm must
participate in Before and After-Camp supervised activities. For

Ahoy Maties! Come sail with Jersey
Shore Pirates aboard the Sea Gypsy for
a swashbuckling pirate adventure on the
Metedeconk River. Our mini-mates will have
the opportunity to dress up like pirates, get face
painted with pirate “tattoos” and learn some
pirate lingo before setting sail for an action
packed adventure. Learn the rules of the Sea
Gypsy, read a treasure map, and work as a team to
defeat the enemy pirate who has stolen the keys to
their treasure. Prepare to man our famous water
cannons to win back the keys from our nemesis
Pirate Pete and then we are off in search of the
sunken treasure from the seas below. Our little
maties will each be rewarded with a handful
of loot and a lifetime of pirate tales to tell!

BOWLING BALLS AND TEN PINS

Join us for some fun as we target our aim on those
ten wooden pins at the end of a long lane. Like
our baseball buddies, the favorite word in this
“ten pin” sport is STRIKE! Learn the basic rules
of the game, the important game lingo, and bowling etiquette. Then, get ready to take aim at those
wooden opponents as we play a few games. Don’t
forget to bring your swimsuit gear to relax all of
those “new” muscles with a cool dip in our pool.

Let’s clown around and create our own circus
scenes using wire, tin foil, circus characters and

on so we’ll devour some circus snacks! When we
are finished clowning around, enjoy some acrobatic moves and take a cool dip in the pool.

Can you dig it? We will have buckets of fun at the
only construction-themed adventure park in North
America where you can ride and operate actual
machinery. Experience driving full-sized backhoes, dig giant holes with real excavators and operate every sort of construction equipment you can
imagine. Along with operating heavy machinery,
Diggerland guests can climb one of the world’s
tallest ropes courses, take an off-road adventure in
our military trucks, tackle the rock wall, or enjoy
one of the daily heavy machinery stunt shows

participate in an orientation and then immerse
themselves in their first mission. The 12-acre
woodland site will excite the imagination of each
outdoor laser tag player as they venture out to locate the opposing team. Campers will experience
a significant need to communicate and cooperate
with their team members in order to effectively
participate in the game. A sense of camaraderie
evolves as the team works together to win each
mission. At the completion of our challenge,
campers will enjoy a cool dip in our pool so don’t

from Toy Story ™ to Pixar’s newest film Inside
Out™. Campers will also enjoy exploring science in disciplines from sports to space. Highlights include The Sports Challenge, which uses
virtual-reality technology to illustrate the physics of sports; The Train Factory’s climb-aboard
steam engine; Space Command’s simulated earthorbit research station; a fully equipped weather
station; and exhibits on electricity and more.

polished piggies, so we will make designer flip

the fun because we certainly will be sticky!

2016 Summer Workshops
THE PROGRAM
The College’s Specialty Camp workshops provide
a combination of intellectually challenging and
stimulating hands-on summer opportunities for
motivated students who are interested in a wide
variety of fields. Each of these unique programs
has been designed to enable young people from
throughout the Mercer County region to meet and
share the excitement of studies in academic fields
not ordinarily encountered in elementary and
middle school curriculums.
For the convenience of working parents, Before
and After camp is available. Although classes
meet from 8:30am to 4pm each day, campers
may be dropped off as early as 7:15am and
picked up as late as 6pm. Children who remain
on campus after 4pm must register for AfterCamp supervised activities, including optional
recreational swimming from 4:00-5:15pm. See
page 52 for details. Unless otherwise noted, all
off-campus site visits and all materials and supplies are included. Campers may bring their own
lunches or purchase meals and beverages at the
College cafeteria.
All off-campus programs include transportation.
Supervised lunch and recess at no additional
cost if registered for A.M. & P.M. classes
within the same week.

for each program and who meet the general eligibility criteria may apply. Additional prerequisites

To apply for one or more of these workshops,
complete the application form on page 47 of
this brochure and mail it together with supporting documents and full payment. Registration
deadline is two weeks prior to the camp start
date. Avoid the $20 late fee…register early.
No registrations will be accepted after 12pm the
Thursday prior to the start of each four-week
camp session or camp course.
REFUND POLICY
Participants are eligible for refunds only if the
parent or guardian notifies Continuing Studies of
a student’s withdrawal at least 10 business days
prior to the first day of the workshop.
NO REFUNDS THEREAFTER. TELEPHONE WITHDRAWALS WILL NOT BE
ACCEPTED. A $10 one-time non-refundable
Continuing Studies summer registration fee will
be applied to all students. A $20 processing fee
will be imposed for withdrawal or change of
any schedule.
LIMITED SPACE
Only a limited number of spaces are available in
each workshop. Applicants will be accepted and
registered on a first-come, first-served basis according to the date their completed applications
are received, including required documentation.

camp for you! Make your first video game in
this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the keys
to designing your first 2-D platformer game.
Conceptualization, play experience, challenge
levels, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are
just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. No
prior experience necessary, just a desire to have

competition is to flip your opponent over, pull its
pieces off or ram it right out of the arena. Then
get ready to modify your design to compete in
our robot tug-o’war, Olympic competition, soccer

Discover the excitement of science and make a
variety of toys designed to illustrate science concepts that make learning fun. Most of the projects
can be taken home as they are made throughout
the week. Make your own working telescope as
you learn about optics and light. Construct an
electro-magnet and a working electric motor.
Build an adjustable, ball-launching catapult that
changes the trajectory of a flinging projectile.
Create a working model of Hero of Alexandria’s
fountain or a vortex tornado in a bottle. Make
ultra-violet bead bracelets, a working compass,
submarine divers, and more. Projects will vary by

FISHING CAMP
(AGES 10-14)
Discover fishing in our state’s lakes, streams,
ponds, and piece of the Atlantic Ocean. Learn
successful techniques and clever tricks that will
help you catch the big ones! Set off on a different adventure and location each day. Depending
upon the weather, your destinations will include
the Pequest Trout Hatchery and a half-day
saltwater boat excursion off of the Atlantic Highlands. Bring a fishing rod, reel and tackle box.

JUNIOR GOLF CAMP
(AGES 7-14)
This low intensity camp is a “great” introduction
to golf with lots of exciting activities. It is
open to players of all skill levels. The seamless
curriculum focuses on the FUN-damentals,
providing a strong base for the newer player. All
aspects of the game will be covered. This camp,
utilizing all areas of the golf center, is always a

ROCK CLIMBING CAMP

Develop a new passion for fun at Rockville
Climbing Center. Learn to climb in a safe, fun

partner, someone to handle the safety ropes while
climbing. No previous skills are required, but
safety rules will be strictly enforced. On the final
day of camp, participants will enjoy time at the
pool to unwind and relax any tired muscles. Unleash that energy and go for the fun and thrill of

“Friendly Froglets” Program
Our 6-year old program is designed to specifically meet the needs of our youngest campers.
Their day will be similar to that of the school year day allowing the teachers more freedom in
their lessons. Under constant, careful supervision of experienced and certified instructors and our
trained camp counselors, our Friendly Froglets will be encouraged to participate in a wide range
of multi-cultural activities, arts and crafts, outdoor sports, reading, science, math and many other
organized activities. The limited number of campers in each group allows the teachers to give
much needed individualized attention to each child.
This program allows our little ones the opportunity to play constructively, learn the importance
of socialization, sharing and cooperation and allow them to adjust to new environments and becoming more independent. Campers will follow a daily schedule which will enable them to be
active and to enjoy the same great fun as the older campers, but at a more relaxed pace.
Beginner Swim is an option for our 6-yr-olds. IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE
FRIENDLY FROGLETS PROGRAM – YOU MUST PLACE A CHECK IN THE BOX IF
YOUR CHILD IS INTERESTED. Instructional swim lessons will run for 45 minutes from
12:15 to 1pm. Please select the box if you would like your child to participate. Please remember
to have your child bring a towel and swimsuit.

I will always have the opportunity to meet with the camp director or other Camp
College administrators to tell my side of any incident that is being reported to the camp
office. I will report any problems that I am having at camp or with any staff member to
the camp director.
1. I will remain with my camp program or trip at all times and will not leave
without a camp administrator’s permission.
2. I will not bring expensive jewelry, electronic games, cellphones and trading cards, dolls or comics to camp. If camper brings valuables, MCCC is not
responsible for lost or stolen items.
3. I will respect camp property, off-site facilities, and all bus transportation. I will not chew gum at camp. If I willfully destroy property or equipment,
monetary reimbursement will be required.
4. I will obey fire drill safety and never pull or play with a fire alarm.
5. I will respect the safety of everyone in a moving vehicle and will obey all bus rules.
6. I will respect personal property of campers and staff and not take anything that doesn’t belong to me.
7. I will respect the camp staff and follow instructions. I will not run away from my group or camp counselors. I will move about the corridors in a quiet and
orderly fashion and not linger or wander between classes.
8. I will be a good camp friend and not fight or instigate a fight. I will not hurt anyone with unkind words or actions. Any object that may hurt or place another
person in fear of his/her safety may be considered a weapon and is cause for serious disciplinary action that could include immediate expulsion from camp. The camp director will investigate and resolve any safety issue immediately.
9. I will show respect for everyone and only use appropriate language and
gestures at camp.
10. I will obey Internet safety rules as instructed by my teacher. Failure to obey Internet safety may include immediate expulsion from camp.

Before-Camp Care
If you would like your child to participate in an extended day program that allows you to bring your camper to
MCCC as early as 7:15am, you should enroll your youngster in MCCC’s “Early Bird BEFORE-CAMP” program.
Early Bird participants, who may purchase breakfast in the Campus Eatery, will participate in supervised activities
on campus during the weeks and days listed below. Experienced camp staff will ensure your child’s safety and
prompt check-in at their regularly scheduled camp programs. You may enroll for any or all of the weeks in which

After-Camp Care
If you would like your child to remain on campus for an optional swim period and additional activities following his or her
regular camp day, you can enroll your youngster in MCCC’s “AFTER-CAMP” program. Children enrolled in this
program are escorted to a variety of supervised activities from 4-6pm, including a recreational swim period from 4-5:15pm,
during the weeks and days listed below. You may enroll for any or all of the weeks in which your child is attending camp.

Summer Programs at MCCC
More Than Just Fun!
• Camp College-Four-week traditional camp of academic
and recreational programs and half- and full-day arts,
sciences, and recreational programs for ages 6-16.
• Sports Camps-A variety of one-week sports camps for
ages 6-17.
• Tomato Patch-An intensive visual and performing arts
summer workshop for students entering grades 5-7 and
grades 8-12.
• Summer College for High School Students-A unique
opportunity for students who have completed at least
one year of high school to earn from three to seven college credits.
• SMILE, GEAR UP, and Community of Learners are
open to students who attend targeted secondary schools
in the Trenton Public School District, for grades 7-12, to
prepare them for success in high school and college.
• Upward Bound is offered to educationally and
economically disadvantaged Trenton students who have
the desire and potential to succeed in college.

OUR MISSION
Camp College provides the finest camp experience for children, an experience that
will be remembered for a lifetime. Committed to quality and excellence in every
aspect of the summer experience, Camp College carefully designs programs and activities, maintains a dedicated and experienced staff, and provides a caring and safe
environment with state-of-the-art facilities. With an emphasis on hands-on activities
and fun, children have the opportunity to achieve, gain self-esteem and confidence,
explore new interests and develop lifelong memories and friendships.
OUR CODE OF BEHAVIOR
Our camper code of behavior is designed to create an environment that allows
campers to learn, teachers to teach, and our camp administrators and counselors
to facilitate the instruction. We believe that good discipline at camp is essential to
the safety and well being of everyone. We also believe that the basic goals of our
programs include the promotion of courteous conduct, consideration toward other
people, and respect for the rights of everyone.
With the full cooperation of parents or guardians, we look forward to an exciting,
safe summer in which our campers respect rules and regulations. College is in session and administrative offices are open for business, so it’s especially important
that campers show respect for others and demonstrate appropriate behavior and
language. Our staff always uses positive techniques to guide behavior, but disruptive activities cannot be tolerated and will be subject to the following disciplinary
actions:
•
1st incident -verbal warning and parental notification.
•
2nd incident - a two-day suspension from camp. The
director may require a parent conference before
continued attendance is permitted.
•
3rd incident or at the discretion of the director - expulsion from Camp College, Before and After-Camp care, any programs, trips or activities associated with Camp College.
No refunds are issued for suspension or expulsion. On the first day of camp, participants and staff will review expected behavior at camp. Parents are expected to discuss this information with their child and return a signed agreement with their completed application. No camper will be admitted without a
signed agreement.

Camp College Comments
My two girls are enrolled in the 2nd session
of Camp College. They are 9 and 11, so I
have had a chance to sample plenty of camps
in the past years; however, I did not expect to
be so thrilled by your operation. My 11 year
old actually did voluntary homework over the
weekend to prepare her piece for her debate
class. She was so excited this morning “Wish
me luck Mom” is what she said when she left
my car. This is just a fabulous confidence
builder for her entry into Middle School in
September. My 9 year old is also having a ball
with the swimming, campfire and meeting new
friends. Your staff is also amazing. Seriously,
they open the door to help the campers out of
the car in the morning and tell you to have a
good day. I feel like I have to pinch myself.
Worth every penny! My only regret is that I
didn’t hook them up at MCCC a couple years
ago. Thanks.

I wanted to express my appreciation to the
entire staff at Camp College for my son’s third
year at camp. The first year Nick attended, the
place seemed so huge to me and although he
was thrilled, I was a little apprehensive. Now,
he’s like a regular college student, knows where
everything is and who everybody is. Your staff
is wonderful. Natola was so nice when I came
into the camp office one morning to let them
know that my father-in-law had passed away
the previous night and could the staff keep an
eye on Nick. The CIT’s at the drop -ff circle
are so nice, some days their “good morning”
and “have a nice day” might be the nicest I
hear while I deal 8 hours with the public on
the phone. It is so comforting to have a CIT
open my car door and greet my son by name.
Anthony V. knows every parent and is always
there with a nice greeting every day. I just
wanted to give a thank you to the camp college
staff for making our family happy campers. ☺

Being a CIT is a great opportunity to gain
valuable job skills, make friends and still manage to enjoy your summer. I loved working

fun as they were.

a lot! What I enjoyed most was the activities

My son, Prem attended the highly acclaimed
camp for the first time last summer. We were
a little apprehensive at first since we did not
know what to expect and it being his first
camp. I wasn't sure if he was going to like it
especially since he was going to spend about
10 hours a day for 6 weeks. For the sake of
variety, we tried both the Specialty and Campus Kids. We were very happy with the overall
experience to say the least. The camp counselors were very experienced and knew just how
to make Prem feel comfortable in his “new
summer home”. They went out of their way to
provide updates to me on how he was doing. I
was always able to reach them and they were
very responsive. I could see that they really
cared and we will definitely be back again.

camp. I found the organization of the program
very impressive and how they were able to
move the children from one course to the next.

The dance classes at Camp College are great.
Stephanie, the teacher, and Emily, her counselor are perfect. There are two dance classes
Hip Hop and Dance, Dance, Dance. They also
instruct Musical Theater. Last summer we
performed Honey Bun from the musical South
Pacific. It is always fun to sing, dance and act
with Stephanie, Emily and your friends.
