COMMISSIONER’S
MESSAGE
It has been another great year for the Recreation Department. As we
prepare for a new year, we will continue to offer new and improved recreational
activities for all ages.
Planned for 2015 will be an expansion of our walking trail along the
Quassaick Creek up to Mill Street and a new playground area near the boat
house pavilion. A fitness trail is also on the drawing board for our always
expanding Park.
The addition of the new rest room facility on the west side of Chadwick
Lake offers boaters, hikers and ice skaters a comfortable rest stop during their
visit to the Park.
As always Dial-a-Bus and our Senior Transportation program provides
inexpensive transportation to Town of Newburgh residents who need a ride.
Please call 845-564-6084 or 845-564-7815 for scheduling and details.
The Recreation Department is open 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday to
register for senior trips, events, activities as well as youth and adult programs
and events.

BUILDING BUDDIES
Ages 6 – 12
1:00 – 2:30pm
$15.00 per class
(Minimum 6 – Maximum 12)
Mondays in July
New for this year, Everything Animals
is collaborating with Bricks 4 Kidz of
New Windsor to offer classes with both
live animals and Lego bricks! Every 90
minute class will focus on one animal
family with class participants learning
about and working with animals from
that group. Each child will then use
Lego bricks to build a model of the
animals; followed by the construction
of structures that will be large enough,
sturdy enough and stimulating enough
to keep the animals comfortable for a
designated period of time. During the
class the kids will work individually
and in teams. They will share materials, consider the needs of others and
create structures that can be used in a
real world setting.
By combining humane education from
Everything Animals www.everythinganimalsresources.org with the STEM
(science, technology, engineering,
math) curriculum from Bricks 4 Kidz
www.bricks4kidz.com/newwindsor the
children will have plenty of fun while
they are learning important concepts.

the Orange County Office for the Aging
and Jewish Family Service of Orange
County. The group provides volunteers
who will drive town residents age 60
and over to doctor appointments and
grocery shopping. Volunteers will also
do the grocery shopping for those who
are unable to shop for themselves or
will visit for an hour a week to provide
companionship. A two week notice is
preferred for ride requests. There is no
charge for this service. Our volunteers
are trained and screened and donate
their time. Anyone interested in
receiving this service can call our
helpline at 564-8936.
Volunteers are also needed,
especially drivers. Training will be
scheduled during the new year. If
you are interested, call 564-8936 and
leave a message.
