CANDIDATE-SUBMITTED BIOGRAPHIES MARC FAVREAU Marc Favreau was raised in Kanata and currently lives in Bridlewood with his wife Julie and new born baby Nathan. He has a background working in politics at both the provincial and federal levels – bringing together people of disparate backgrounds and viewpoints. Marc attended the Earl of March Secondary School and began his high school activism working for such causes as Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSAID). While attending Carleton University, Marc was a member of the Carleton University Student Association and Chair of the New University Government, a student group that promoted student participation on university wide committees. Following his graduation, Marc worked for the Millennium Bureau of Canada, working with community groups to mark the millennium. Since then, Marc has worked in various federal departments and is currently a manager at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, responsible for executive level committees and executive decision-making in the Agency. Marc has been active on a number of political campaigns within his community and beyond. He started his municipal political activity as a volunteer on Alex Munter’s campaign for city council followed by working with Marianne Wilkinson on her provincial campaign. At the federal level, Marc worked on provincial tour events for a prime minister, worked for a federal Environment Minister and also worked on a federal leadership campaign. This experience gave him some insight into the differences and similarities between communities and how to build support toward a common goal. Over the years, Marc has been an active supporter of various community groups and events in Kanata and Ottawa. Marc is currently a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Kanata Branch and the Bridlewood Community Association. AARON HELLEMAN Aaron has been a lifelong resident of Ottawa and a homeowner in Kanata since the mid 1990s. He is married to Sandy and has three young children, Deanna, Dawson and Dylan He's a Professional Engineer and has worked at Alcatel-Lucent for 13 years, now as a Senior Telecommunications Hardware Designer and team leader, running multi-disciplinary, multi-year projects. He's a strong advocate of cooperative education programs and mentors others. Aaron is the owner of RidesNearMe.com, a business that supports carpooling solutions between businesses, their employees, and other community groups. Clients include Dell Computers, based in California, and the Metropolitan Bible Church here in Ottawa. He's a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Electrical Engineering. He was awarded the 2009 Convener's Award for his work with Kanata Little League Baseball. Aaron is deeply involved in Kanata. He has a strong sense of community and his neighbours recognize his leadership abilities to make their lives better. Aaron rolls up his sleeves and gets things done. He's active in supporting local groups like the Kanata Food Cupboard. He's organized community clean-ups and was a lead organizer for an Earth Hour event here in Kanata. Through his leadership at his church, he ran one of the two fundraisers held in the community to support his neighbours who were affected by last year's flood. He initiated “The Good Food Box” program in Kanata, creating access to inexpensive and healthy fruits and vegetables. He's on the planning committee for “Love Kanata”, an inter-church effort to build a greater sense of community. ALLAN HUBLEY Allan Hubley is married to Wendy (Barber) and they have three children – Christine Leigh, James and Joshua. Allan first moved to Kanata in 1978 and has been very active in his community for many years. Currently Allan is the President of his Community Association. Allan Hubley has also served his community in other capacities for all of Kanata South including: - Administrator of the Sandra Ball Youth Awards (which recognizes the positive contributions youth make in the community) - Founding member and Co-Chair of the Kanata Community Police Partnership; - Chair of the Bill Connelly Charity, which provides small scholarships to Kanata students entering building and trades programs; - Founding member and Vice Chair of the City of Ottawa’s Accessibility Advisory Board - Member of the Mayor’s Community Forum. - Contributor and volunteer to the Kanata Santa Claus Parade; - Contributor and volunteer to the Kanata Canada Day Celebrations; - Member of the Kanata Sports Club; - Member of the Ottawa West End Flood Committee; working with the city and community volunteers to find solutions to the areas flooding problems and to fix them once and for all. Allan also has been directly active in politics over the years as a volunteer for several politicians such as Gordon O’Connor and Norm Sterling. Whenever someone is in need Allan is always there to organize some form of assistance to get them through their time of need. In 2007, Allan Hubley was recognized for his extensive community service in Kanata South and was chosen the City of Ottawa’s Citizen of the Year. In 2008, Allan was chosen by the Governor General to receive the Caring Canadian Award at Rideau Hall for his community and volunteer work in the city of Ottawa and across Canada.
