◗ THE 411 ON
GETTING THERE
K.C. Alfred / Union-Tribune
Despite all the snickering about Street
Scene’s less-than-urban location amid the
suburban sprawl of Mission Valley, there is at
least one upside to the move out of downtown:
It’s way easier to get in, rock out and get out.
Parking will be available onsite, costs $15
a day and must be purchased in advance, so
you might be better off saving your dough
for something else. Parking passes can be
purchased at www.street-scene.com.
The trolley is, without a doubt, the mode
of transport for Street Scene. We even
spotted Wayne Coyne riding the rail after
The Flaming Lips played the festival last
year. Trolleys depart most stations every 15
minutes, but service is usually stepped up for
special events like Street Scene. Budget $3 to
$5 for an adult round-trip fare, or shell out $5
for a single-day pass or $9 for a two-day pass.
For complete deets on parking and public
transit, plus cab company phone numbers
and hotel ideas for out-of-towners, log on to
streetscene.signonsandiego.com.

◗ AT WORK Cover guy Sean O’Donnell’s perfect San Diego weekend:
“Hey man, whatever happens in El Cajon stays in El Cajon.”
◗ STREET WEAR
“Outdoor music festival” does not mean abandon
all fashion sense, but it does mean be sensible. Keep
clothing nonrestrictive, comfortable and without need
for safety pins, tape, glue or any other kind of adhesive.
Trendy shoes are invited, but flat, closed-toed lace-ups
(think of the Diesel Maude Avy, Puma Tallowa (above)
or Ben Sherman Boomtown Oxford) will keep your feet
happier. Yes, women, long earrings are in. However, it’s
never attractive or fashionable to split an ear lobe open
because the overly eager Sean Paul fan next to you
attempts a dance move during “Temperature.” Stick to
smaller earrings and, overall, inexpensive jewelry. Lastly
and most importantly: Wear deodorant. Please.
