Due to financial support from the European Commission for the next five years Eurosonic Noorderslag, Yourope and all other participating partners will be able to continue the already successful ETEP program and develop it. In the next years we will be able to add more festivals and create more results for the selected ETEP acts and festivals and work on better opportunities and border breaking carriers for European Artists in Europe. YES Group (Yourope Event Safety Group). Since 2006, Yourope has organised twelve seminars and workshops for festival security staff from all over Europe in cooperation with the ILMC Safety Focus Group. The Safety Focus Group is now integrated into Yourope and named YES Yourope Event Safety Group. Yourope members who participate in these seminars get special discounts. Green’n’Clean. In 2006/7 Yourope launched environmental guidelines for music festivals. The original printed booklet “Green‘n‘Clean“ has been supplemented by an online tool, providing festival organisers with customised environmental advice plus a “Green‘n‘Clean Award” for festivals who achieve a defined number of criteria in terms of environmental measures. Since September 2009, Yourope copromoted two seminars for “Sustainable Management” at Bucks New University in cooperation with agreenerfestival.com, Julie’s Bicycle and Theresa Moore from Bucks New University. Yourope was a partner of the Green Events Conference in Bonn/Germany in November 2010. Yourope is also a founding member of the Green Operations (GO) Group. The Green Operations (GO) Group is an independent, pan European and cross industry think-tank to inspire people in the music festival and event industry to run their operations greener and smarter. Initiated in November 2010 by Bucks University, GreenEvents 4 THE YOUROPE EVENT SAFETY GROUP Conference, Green Music Initiative (GMI) and Yourope at the 1st International GreenEvents Conference in Bonn, the first GO Group workshop will take place in Amsterdam from the 23rd – 24th May 2011. Yourope members who participate in these seminars get special discounts. Virtual Festivals Europe. In October 2008, Yourope launched the first pan-European Festival portal eu. virtualfestivals.com in cooperation with Virtual Festivals to aggregate more than 3000 music festivals, 20,000 performing artists and 50 million festivalgoers across 45 countries. Yourope members get special discount rates if they book advertisements on this European festival platform (see more details under eu.virtualfestivals.com). Festival Awards European. Following on from the website Yourope and Virtual Festivals Europe worked in cooperation with Eurosonic Noorderslag in October 2009 to launch the Festival Awards Europe with 12 categories. The 2nd Award Ceremony took place on 12th January 2011 at the Stadtschouwbourg Theatre in Groningen (NL) including dinner, live bands and aftershow party. The number of online votes from the 1st to the 2nd edition grew from 100’000 up to 350’000 votes. Various. Having gained respect within the industry and at government level, Yourope also has the power to lobby for all legal and industry issues relating to the European festival industry on behalf of its members and together with other associations in the live music business. If that wasn’t enough, Yourope also focuses on other key issues for festivals – such as marketing and sponsoring – and will concentrate on the information exchange between the festival members in areas like backline, radio/TV/Internet rights, tax information, merchandsing rates and more. The Yourope Event Safety group has as its mission as a non profit making organisation to act as a catalyst in the context of event safety, crowd management and associated disciplines. The group will facilitate partners across Europe to engage in dialogue and activities which support the development of best practice at events. The group has a vision to enhance the knowledge of and enable participation in the support of initiatives which continually strive to create safer event environments in Europe. Over the last ten years in various guises the group has delivered seminars throughout Europe focusing on the real issues on health and safety at concerts. The group in partnership with industry and education received funding from the European Council for Health and Safety to create a health and safety database for those working at events to enable them to use good practice to help them develop and deliver risk assessment, safety procedures and view and utilise a range of tools including job descriptions and guidance from across Europe. The group is concerned with the development of an integrated safety culture connecting both the internal and external customer environments. The focus of the group is on the following areas: • Crowd Management • Health & Safety • Event Security • Risk Assessment, Analysis and Management • Systems and Procedures • Business Continuity • Disaster Management Presently the group is working on a range of activities and focusing on show stop procedures, new configurations of event venues and topics such as weather and unusual conditions at events and has recently been focusing on sporting crowds and the Olympic Games. Whenever issues occur the group makes it possible for those at events to discuss these in detail, learn and then apply good practice to their own events. Through an active approach to the subject and through support of agencies and event businesses, the Group intends to support the development of a generic safety culture through the following aims and objectives: • To encourage dialogue related to health and safety, crowd management and associated disciplines at events through conferences, projects and other forms • To create a forum through which existing knowledge can be shared by the widest possible audience • To create new knowledge through projects based in the live event environment and through academic approaches • To encourage knowledge exchange/transfer and the dissemination of best practice from existing events to others • To make Governmental Organisations aware where conflicting practices or confusing legislation have been identified • To seek funding for individual projects through the network of industrial partners and organisations • To create original data in an available format accessible easily by those working in events across Europe • To identify and discuss issues pertinent to the event environment The seminars carried out by the group have taken place across Europe including Groningen, Berlin and Great Missenden. There are two seminars a year. The first exclusively for Yourope members and the second is opened up to a wider audience from a range of disciplines working at events and festivals. One of the main focuses of the group is to make as much progress as possible in stopping deaths and injury at events. The use of Roskilde as a model has been very useful for this and in conjunction with Bucks New University a series of research projects have been carried out trialled firstly at Rosklilde and then pushed out into a range of festivals around Yourope. The pressure barrier study, questionnaires on health and safety and most recently the pressure suit project have all followed this pattern. A new education course for those at events is being developed at this moment and will be available to Yourope members in September. The next seminar on May 26/27, 2011 at Missenden Abbey in England promises an exciting and progressive programme linking sport and festival crowd behaviour and we hope to attract as many members as possible to share ideas an knowledge in the development of practical health and safety cultures across the festival arena. © Pictures Safety Group: Exitfestival & Claus Bentzen, Roskilde 5 LE PRINTEMPS DE BOURGES STADTPARK OPEN R Bourges I FRANCE 20 April – 25 April 2011 MAP I 25 Musical direction Contact Rock, Reggae, Hip Hop, LE PRINTEMPS DE BOURGES World, Chanson, Electronic Daniel Colling direction [email protected] Fon: 0033 2 48 27 40 40 Established Fax: 0033 2 48 27 40 41 1977www.printemps-bourges.com Musical direction CONTACT Rock, Reggae, Pop, Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion GmbH World Music and more ... The festival concept was modernized by Musikbegegnungen e.V. in 2001. Located in the south-east of Bavaria (Germany) and bordering Austria and Czech Republic the site is embedded in the beautiful scenery of the bavarian forest. The festival is well culture (like having a crane for “beer case climbing” instead of “normal” bungee jumping and a “Frühschoppen” – a special breakfast with white sausages and beer – on Sunday morning). Of course, a band is playing traditional music to this. Welcome to where musical Bavaria meets the world – and vice versa! This year the Pinkpopfestival is having it’s 42st edition! The most famous festival of the Netherlands has been visited by more than 1.9 million visitors in its 41 editions and sold-out 21 times. The first Pinkpop Festival took place in 1970. This makes the festival the longest running un-interrupted annual open air popfestival in Europe (this fact owed the festival a place in the Guinness Book of known and loved for its relaxed atmosphere and its big variations to keep the crowd alive: 21 bands on the mainstage perform almost any style while the culture stage offers a large variation of theatre, poetry slams, comedy, workshops and art. Additionally, the festival is strongly influenced by the special Bavarian Records). The famous rock festival has since 1988 taken place on the splendid festival site of MEGALAND in Landgraaf. The community of Landgraaf is in the south of the Netherlands and situtated in the county of Limburg, 135 miles from Amsterdam. The music is performed on three stages on the site, which also include a vast festival market as well as a huge camping area. The Pinkpop Festival normally takes place in Whitsun weekend **(accept for very early Whitsunweekends)** and presents a wide range of contemporary music. The main aim of the event is to promote young artists and help them display their work. The greatest up and coming bands of the country’s independent scene have participated in the Día de la Música Heineken Festival, many of them gaining a good reputation after playing at the event. 10 This philosophy has been the guideline for the event which has gained national notoriety and particularly in Madrid it has become the most important independent music festival of the Spanish capital. Over 30.000 visitors, more than 70 shows and over 250 bands and artists, that is our most successful result for the c/o pop in 2010. Since 2004, the festival is held once a year in Cologne, and spans over five days, during which the cathedral city stands under the banner of pop culture. Because unlike other festivals, the c/o pop festival involves the whole city. Instead of taking place at a notorious “green field”, the c/o pop festival integrates unusual venues such as the roof of the Museum Ludwig or the Cologne Philharmonie. This year the festival will take place from the 22nd to 26th June. Europareise is an international networking platform within the c/o pop festival. It is primarily aimed at festivals and institutions around the world (In 2010 around 70 festivals and institutions from 25 countries took part) and offers the perfect opportunity to get in touch and do business with representatives of the German music industry (eg, labels, booking agencies) as well as many international partners. On site, the makers of local, national as well as project-driven networks will have the chance to discover great bands, acts and DJs from Germany, share their relevant practical experiences and benefit from well selected network formats. Europareise was launched by the c/o pop in 2006 and has since increased steadily. Hosting more than 40+ international and regional acts on main and other stages for 2 days, the festival offers its visitors full camping activities for 10.000 campers with many other extra curricular activities such as fairground, skateboarding, basketball, zeppelin, superjump, tai-chi, yoga etc. High standard production of the “music” town required 2500 professionals and The FEST has many features and is everything else than a boringly normal pop festival. While the names of the top acts have increasingly become more attracting and finesounding, the regional scene provides about half of the concerts for the music stage. Since 1991 there has been a separate theater stage. Furthermore, there is a children play ground for the little ones, and in a 250 voluntary workers. The festival aims to offer an alternative life-style to 50.000 people for two full days and to build a cultural and artistic town. Its prior goal is to stimulate the “global” tradition of open air music events in Turkey and provide Istanbul a solid place in that cultural map.
