Tickets are non-refundable unless a class is cancelled. A £1.50 booking fee applies per transaction. Tickets will be posted to you within 2-3 weeks of booking, unless the show is imminent when they will be posted to arrive in time. 6 The Knitting & Stitching Show Alexandra Palace 2015 A-Z Descriptions A-Z Descriptions 20 Tips to Improve your Sewing Celia Banks This is a 1-hour presentation of techniques and ideas that will help sewers to achieve professional results. It covers areas such as choosing and preparing patterns, pre-shrinking suitable fabrics and selecting appropriate interfacings. There will be suggestions for streamlining the sewing process and obtaining a professional finish, using good pressing techniques and tools. A list of references and resources will be provided at the end of the workshop. 1 hr Demonstration A Trio of Tailoring Techniques Celia Banks Do you shy away from tackling more tailored garments because you lack the confidence? Come along to this 1.5 hour workshop to learn how to sew beautiful welt pockets, make a sharp, mitred sleeve vent and insert godets by sewing perfect inside corners. All of these techniques will raise your sewing to a new level of expertise, using methods employed by some of the great couture houses. Suitable for beginners and all ages. 1 hr workshop Hardanger for Beginners Ilke Cochrane This Norwegian needlework technique is based around satin stitch and cutwork. Yes, you will be cutting holes in your stitching – but don’t worry, it’s not nearly so scary as it sounds! Using perle cottons, we will start with the basic satin stitches called Kloster blocks, then add some colourful backstitch decoration before cutting part of the fabric. The cut parts will be embellished with filling stitches, giving a lacy finish. The finished stitching will then be used to decorate a bookmark. This workshop is suitable for people who have never done any Hardanger before, but some previous stitching experience in other techniques (for example cross stitch) is recommended. During this workshop you will be using sheets of dyed sublimation disperse papers and transferring this onto cloth. Trapping flat objects such as lace, string and your hand cut stencils, building and overlapping designs onto the fabrics you will create a mix media collage. Nicole will guide you though each process, resulting in a final designs onto samples of cloth. Simple cutwork in the form of ‘chipping’, where metal thread is cut up and stitched down in small pieces called chips. You will be shown a variety of ways to give different effects and some hints to guide your own explorations. Suitable for any level. 1 hr workshop Introduction to Paper Lamination Christine Chester In this 3-hour workshop ,learn how to laminate copies of old photos, music, text or newspaper text on to transparent fabric using a thermofax to create broken and fractured imagery which is washable and able to be layered with other fabrics for hand or machine quilting. This is a versatile mixed media technique which works well combined in layers with other colours and textures.
