Materials are provided by the teacher for most classes so there is no need to bring anything with you.
Sewing machines will be provided for classes where a machine is required.
Tickets are non-refundable unless a class is cancelled.
A £1.50 booking fee applies per transaction.
We try to present the programme as advertised but regret that occasionally, circumstances dictate that
changes have to be made and we cannot be held responsible for any disappointment so caused.
Tickets will be posted to you within 2-3 weeks of booking, unless the show is imminent when they will be

20 Tips to Improve your Sewing
Celia Banks
This is a 1-hour presentation of
techniques and ideas that will help
sewers to achieve professional
results. It covers areas such as
choosing and preparing patterns,
pre-shrinking suitable fabrics and
selecting appropriate interfacings.
There will be suggestions for
streamlining the sewing process and
obtaining a professional finish, using
good pressing techniques and tools.
A list of references and resources
will be provided at the end of the
workshop.

more tailored garments because

along to this 1.5 hour workshop
to learn how to sew beautiful welt
pockets, make a sharp, mitred
sleeve vent and insert godets by
sewing perfect inside corners. All
of these techniques will raise your
sewing to a new level of expertise,
using methods employed by some
of the great couture houses. This
workshop is suitable for more
experienced sewers.

Hardanger for Beginners

This Norwegian needlework
technique is based around satin
stitch and cutwork. Yes, you will be
cutting holes in your stitching – but
don’t worry, it’s not nearly so scary
as it sounds! Using perle cottons, we
will start with the basic satin stitches
called Kloster blocks, then add some
colourful backstitch decoration
before cutting part of the fabric. The
cut parts will be embellished with
filling stitches, giving a lacy finish.
The finished stitching will then be
used to decorate a bookmark. This
workshop is suitable for people who
have never done any Hardanger
before, but some previous stitching
experience in other techniques
(for example cross stitch) is

Prog a Shaggy Seat Mat
Progging is a traditional rag rug
technique which you can use to
recycle your fabric stash (or old
clothes/bedding) into rugs and wall
art. In this session try Progging,
which consists of poking or pulling
bits of fabric through a hessian
base, giving a shaggy effect. First
you can try a prodder, like granny
did, then use a modern tool to
achieve the same effect, but
faster. Make a sample or start a
seat mat to finish later. Suitable for

In this 3-hour workshop you will
make a beautiful gift for your own
or your friend’s newborn. Using a
SewSimple Pattern, you will make a
very simple wrap back dress with
button fastenings and a contrast

in winter and or a nappy cover in
summer and it only needs 1 metre
of fabric. It is quick to cut out and

Shisha Embroidery for
Beginners

Try your hand at this Indian style of
embroidery, characterised by the
use of small mirrors. First you’ll learn
how to attach a mirror or sequin
using variegated perle cotton, then
we’ll use some traditional stitches
like chain stitch, stem stitch and fly
stitch to turn your shisha motif into
a pretty floral design by adding
a scrolled stem and leaf. Some
sparkly sequins and beads add a
bit of extra sparkle! The finished
project will be made into a card.

who have never done any shisha

During this class you will use basic
soutache braid and embroidery
techniques to make a contemporary
brooch. We will use colourful
braid, crystals and beads, around
a striking central cabochon. The
technique is built up in layers from
the centre, stitching first seed beads,
then the soutache braid and beads
and crystals around the outside. The
back is covered with ultra-suede,
and a brooch attachment glued to
the reverse. Suitable for those with
some needlework experience and

Thread Catcher and Pin Cushion

In this workshop you will make a
fabric pin cushion, tool-holder and
thread catcher bin. The finished
article can be used at the side of
your machine to store small tools
and pins or across the arm of a sofa

sewing classes. Using co-ordinating
quilting cottons, the project will
be completed up to the point of
filling the pin cushion. This can be
completed at home using a filling
of choice such as wadding with dry
rice, lentils or silver sand. Suitable

rub, fill, bond, laminate, gild and
