Los Angeles Children’s Trust Fund: Spark of Love Toy Drive Volunteer
JOB OVERVIEW
Department of Children and Family Services
Volunteer will assist with the “Spark of Love Toy Drive” and oversee the communication with and scheduling the distribution
of toys to the charitable organizations within the community. The Children’s Trust Fund raises funds and awareness to serve
foster youth in one of the largest foster care populations in the world—LA County. The organization has been in existence for
43 years and ensures that 100% of every donation goes directly to aid foster youth and their families.

“Spark of Love (SOL)” is a toy drive and distribution initiative that includes a number of related holiday events benefiting
foster youth and caregivers. The 18 year-old initiative is managed by a Planning Committee comprised of ABC’s Channel 7,
Children’s Trust Fund, representatives from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Metrolink.
Within Los Angeles County, these efforts are also supported by volunteers, representatives from the Board of Supervisors and
various employees from the Department of Children and Family Services. Approximately 40,000 toys are collected and then
distributed to the community each year through the work of ABC7, the Children’s Trust Fund, and Los Angeles County Fire
Department. The Toy Distribution Center is operated by the staff of the DCFS Children’s Trust Fund.
TIME COMMITMENT
Student volunteer is needed for the four weeks beginning Monday, November 28 th through Wednesday, December 21st (start
and end dates negotiable).

Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management: Financial Services Intern
JOB OVERVIEW
Merrill Lynch, Inc. in the Santa Monica & Beverly Hills offices are seeking 10 to 15 interns with strong communication,

This year, the Marshall Student Services Office will be offering two domestic trips in May – Chicago/Minneapolis or
Boston/Philadelphia. The Chicago/Minneapolis course provides insight into the economy and culture of two important cities
in America’s heartland. The 2009 LINC-D trip included executive presentations and tours of companies including Kraft Foods,
the Chicago Board of Trade, BP, Motorola, Walgreens, Valspar, Target Corporation, Cargill, the Mall of America, and
more. The Boston/Philadelphia trip will include visits with Fortune 500 companies based in two of America’s oldest and most
iconic cities that serve as the home to companies including Boston Consulting Group, New Balance, Gillette, Fidelity
Investments, Comcast, GlaxoSmithKline, Wyeth, Pep Boys, Sunoco, and more.
We truly believe that this is a great learning opportunity, as well as the possible opportunity to recruit for internships and fulltime employment. As part of the trip, we will be meeting with many elite USC and Marshall alumni leaders, as well as MBA
admission reps at top business schools in the area (possible visits include Wharton, Harvard, Northwestern, or Univ. of
Chicago).
Program Details
Students admitted into the American Business & Leadership Program will be required to attend four pre-trip seminars to learn
about these American cities and company hosts, as well as cover topics including networking, recruiting, and finding your fit
in the corporate world. These seminars are tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 13th, April 20th, April 27th, and May
4th. Time and location will be announced at the end of the fall semester.
The 7-day trip will occur immediately after Commencement in May. Our date of departure is Sunday, May 13th and we will
return to Los Angeles on Saturday, May 19th.
Requirements to Apply
Must be a business administration or accounting MAJOR
Must be a current sophomore or junior. Freshmen and seniors will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Must have a 2.8 or higher GPA (cumulative or transfer GPA for first-semester transfer students)
Must be able to attend the 7-day business trip from Sunday, May 13th to Saturday, May 19th and the MANDATORY
four pre-trip seminars
Program Cost
The cost of the program is estimated to be around $2,200. The final cost will be determined before you need to commit. This
fee includes all flights, hotel, ground transportation, and some meals during visit days. Limited scholarships will be available
for students with a financial need.

New Media Business Plan Challenge: The 2012 Y-Prize
YPO Golden West, YPO Malibu, and U.S. Trust are excited to announce, the Y-Prize Business Plan Challenge which aims to
provide a learning experience for students as well as initial $50,000 payment for the funding of the plan for the selected
team.

RULES
The YPrize New Media Competition is comprised of three rounds of submission. The first submission is open to all current
students, faculty and alumni; and consists of an online form. After a round of judging by various business teams (YPO & U.S.
Trust), 20 semi-finalist will be selected on November 1st and 3 finalists will be selected December 1st to move on to the final
round.
The deliverable’s due during the final will be a 15 minute presentations and a 5 minute questions and answer period. Each

State Farm Sales and Marketing Competition
OVERVIEW
Two undergraduate students will be selected to represent USC in this competition. Students will compete on an individual
basis; however, an overall team/school score will also be recognized at the final awards ceremony. Students will work with a
faculty coach from USC who will assist in the preparation for this competition. The faculty coach will attend the competition in
Warrensburg with the students.
COMPETITION
The competition will include two distinct components:
1. Integrated Marketing Communication Presentation (IMPC): Each student will prepare a twenty-five minute
presentation providing analysis and ideas for marketing and selling to the youthful driver. Students have the flexibility to
incorporate multi-media, video or any other methods of presentation, but all materials must be able to be viewed within the
twenty-five minute period. Details of what to include in the IMCP will be provided to the selected students. The presentation
will be judged by a panel of State Farm agents and leaders and will be worth a total of 100 points. The IMCP score will be part
of a student’s overall score for the competition.
2. Sales Role Play (SRP): Each student will compete in one or more video-taped Sales Role Plays at the University of Central
Missouri. Youthful “customers” will be identified and provided as part of the competition. Each Sales Role Play will be based
on scenarios which will be provided to competing students. Students who advance beyond the first Sales Role Play will be
given a different scenario for the final competition. The final scenario will be provided to students who advance on the day of
the competition. Each videotaped Sales Role Play will be judged by an independent panel that will include State Farm
representatives. The initial sales presentation will be worth 100 points to a student’s overall score for the competition.
AWARDS/PRIZES
Each student selected by his or her college/university will receive $1,000 after successfully participatingin all aspects of the
competition. In addition, all travel and hotel expenses will be paid by State Farm.
Prize money for the individual finalists in the competition will be awarded as follows:
