HHS Access21 Internship Program Final Presentations Fall Semester 2014 Megahertz Computer Matthew Roberts has been interning at Megahertz Computer since July 2013. He was able to learn all aspects of the computer, including hardware and software. He was able to learn hands-­‐on by troubleshooting issues and helping to correct them. He has been asked to stay on as a volunteer going forward. Matthew Roberts, Mom Tia Roberts, Mentor/Owner Beth Bertoni The River Radio Station 92.5 Kim Asemota interned at The River where she learned all aspects of Accounting and Office Management. She learned how important it is (especially in the Accounting world) to check your work several times. Kim did such a nice job that they have asked us for several more interns during the Spring semester. Internship Coordinator Lisa Hunt, Intern Kim Asemota, Mentor/Business Manager Jenna Riley Lawrence General Hospital (Emergency Room) Stephanie Zuber spent the semester in the Emergency Department at Lawrence General Hospital. She learned how to perform an EKG and demonstrated on her “friend” Annie. She hopes to someday become an Emergency Room Physician. With Stephanie’s drive and determination, we’re sure she will make it! She has already been accepted to 5 colleges! Intern Stephanie Zuber (EKG demonstration on mannequin Annie) Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley (Adult Behavioral Unit) Jasmin Amadis had interactions with the elderly at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley Hospital’s Adult Behavioral Unit. She learned about the various diseases that can affect them, such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. This experience was especially valuable for Jasmin because it helped her decide that she does not want to work in the clinical setting, but would like to explore the possibility of teaching Psychology at the college level. Mom Odalis Vargas, Intern Jasmin Amadis Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley (Adult Behavioral Unit) Topanga Labonville interned in the Adult Behavioral Unit at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley along with Jasmin Amadis, however her story is slightly different. Topanga’s experience confirmed her desire to pursue the clinical psychology field. Her experience prompted her to do further research on dementia and Alzheimer’s and unique ways that other countries are tackling this overwhelming issue amongst our aging population. Intern Topanga Labonville Haverhill Boys and Girls Club Marilyn Ortega was already working at the Boys and Girls Club and when asked about what she wanted to do with the rest of her life, responded that she wanted to do what her boss does. Her boss was more than happy to have her spend extra time at the Club learning about the Administrative functions of a Club Director Teacher Eridania Nieves, Intern Marilyn Ortega, Mentor/Club Director Debbie Card, Career Academy Coordinator Victoria Kelley City of Haverhill Mayor’s Office Aubrie Campbell was introduced to the Internship Program through her History Teacher Mr. Simmons, who was working with her on her Government Independent Study. Aubrie was excited to have the opportunity to spend time with the Mayor, where she was able to sit in on meetings with him, attend public events and research policies of other municipalities. They were so pleased with Aubrie’s performance that they noted in her evaluation that she was welcome to come back at any time! Mayor’s Chief of Staff Mr. David Van Dam, History Teacher Mr. Simmons, Intern Aubrie Campbell, Executive Assistant to the Mayor Ms. Allison Heartquist Bella Vita Salon and Day Spa ***Paid Job Obtained*** Victoria Foresta was introduced to cosmetology at Haverhill High School. She enjoyed it so much that she wanted to do an internship to see if it could be something she would want to do for the rest of her life. She was so excited that she took it upon herself to find the salon that would best fit her interests and needs. That salon was Bella Vita. The manager was extremely welcoming to Victoria and allowed her to gain exposure to all aspects of the industry. Victoria says that she is now 120% sure this is something she will pursue for her career. Through the work she did during her Internship, Victoria’s manager saw her skill and potential to succeed in the industry and offered her paid employment!! She will be able to work there while she pursues her cosmetology license. Intern Victoria Foresta, Hair Model Lawrence General Hospital (Neonatal Special Care Unit) Krystal Quirindongo interned at the Neonatal Special Care Unit at Lawrence General Hospital. She was concerned that she would not be able to handle seeing babies in distress and wanted to do an internship so that she could test herself. She found that this is definitely the career she wants to pursue and that she will be able to thrive in the environment. Krystal has a special interest in helping babies with fetal distress syndrome. She hopes to continue volunteering at the hospital so that she can maintain her interactions with the staff and babies. Intern Krystal Quirindongo
