Franconia Sculpture Park Intern Sponsorship Information
Franconia Sculpture Park Intern Sponsorship Information ABOUT FRANCONIA’S INTERN PROGRAMS Franconia Sculpture Park’s Intern Artist Program and Arts Administration Intern Program help career-bound artists and aspiring arts administrators gain professional experience at a nonprofit arts organization. The Intern Programs at Franconia are based on pivotal experiences that John Hock, co-founder and Artistic Director/CEO, had as a young artist. The programs began with the park’s founding in 1996 and have since grown to support 200 career-bound individuals. The Intern Artist Program was recognized with an award for Program Excellence from the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts for the creation of the Intern Artist Program. “My internship at Franconia has been a life-changing experience for me as an emerging artist. Its challenging and supportive environment has broadened my artistic perspectives, sharpened my skills, strengthened me in both physical and character terms, and therefore brought me closer to the professional life I pursue.” -Lu Xu, Intern Artist, Guiyang Shi, Guizhou, China Franconia welcomes career-bound artists and aspiring arts administrators to apply to the Intern Programs. Interns receive room and board, and studio space (Intern Artists only). Twelve individuals are selected to participate in the programs each year. Interns are in residence for two to three months working in a supportive environment where they are stimulated, challenged, and rewarded by their work and growth at Franconia. Many former interns have benefited beyond from the program beyond their stay at Franconia as their experience helped them establish invaluable professional networks that sparked future projects and collaborations, propelled academic opportunities, provided meaningful peer feedback, and established lifelong relationships. ABOUT INTERN SPONSORSHIP Franconia encourages individuals who are applying to the Intern Programs to look into sponsorship opportunities. If you are a student, talk with your Dean, Chair and/or Professors to talk about the possibility of a college/university sponsorship. If you are no longer a student, research private and government sponsorship possibilities. Sponsorship is crucial for many students who cannot afford to spend time in our internship program without additional financial support. Sponsorships help to offset travel expenses and material expenses that the intern may incur. A portion of the sponsorship funds go to Franconia to help offset the cost of room, board, studio space, equipment, and tools that Franconia provides to support interns. The sponsorship makes it possible for any student in any financial situation to participate in our Intern Programs. 29836 St. Croix Trail, Shafer, MN 55074 | www.franconia.org | (651) 257-6668 SUGGESTED AMOUNT OF INTERN SPONSORSHIP 8 Week Internship Funds to support Intern Travel $450 Documentation of Work $100 Materials for Sculpture $600 Personal Expenses & Honorarium $600 Subtotal $1,750 Funds to support Franconia Direct room and board, meals, and studio space expense ($70/wk) $560 Curatorial/Publicity Expenses for the Intern Program ($10/wk) $80 Subtotal TOTAL SPONSORSHIP AMOUNT $640 $2,390 10 Week Internship 12 Week Internship 14 Week Internship $450 $100 $600 $750 $1,900 $450 $100 $600 $900 $2,050 $450 $100 $600 $1,050 $2,200 $700 $840 $980 $100 $120 $140 $800 $2,700 $960 $3,010 $1,120 $3,320 In the past years the following educational institutions have supported and referred individuals to our internship programs: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Alfred University, NY Arizona State University, AZ Art Institute of Chicago, IL Augustana College, SD Bard College, NY Barnard College of Columbia University, NYC Bennington College, VT Bethel College, MN Bowling Green State University, OH Boston University, MA Brandeis University, MA Brighton University, England, UK California College of the Arts, CA Carleton College, MN Cardiff University, Wales, UK College of Charleston, SC College of Visual Arts, MN College for Creative Studies, MI Colorado State University, CO Connecticut College, CT Cooper Union, NYC Cornell University, NY Davidson College, NC Drake University, IA • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Dunwoody College of Technology, MN Hamline University, MN Harvey Mudd College, CA Herron School of Art and Design, IN Indiana State University, IN Iowa State, IA Kansas City Art Institute, MO Lawrence University, WI Lewis and Clark College, OR Macalester College, MN Maryland Institute College of Art, MD Michigan State University, MI Middlebury College, VT Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, WI Minneapolis College of Art and Design, MN Mt.
