Our students get jobs in advertising and corporate settings, designing fashion, interiors, jewelry and anything that requires creative skills learned at Montserrat College of Art. And now Montserrat is one of a handful of art colleges with a required internship program for every student to give you the experience and contacts that can help you get hired after graduation. The Internship and Apprenticeship Program is a degree requirement for graduation. The program lets students take into the workplace what they've learned in the classroom, and gain practical experience, learn the realities of the workplace, and explore the direction they’d like their careers to take after they graduate. Some students participate in corporate internships that hire artists, and others work with established artists who are making their living and their mark with their art. *The Required Junior Year Internship & Apprenticeship Program at Montserrat College of Art was created through the generosity of a grant from the Davis Educational Foundation, which was established by Stanton and Elisabeth Davis after his retirement as chairman of Shaw's Supermarket, Inc. “It has been our pleasure to work with Montserrat College of Art. It raised my self-esteem and I can now apply the skills of draftsmanship, craftsmanship, promotion and presentation at school and to my future career as an artist.” At om About our Director Joan Milnes holds an MA in Counseling and a BA in Psychology that includes a minor in Business Administration. She has worked for a number of years in higher education as an internship coordinator and as a professor of developmental psychology at several area colleges. She is a member of national and regional internship organizations, a speaker at conferences, and elected to the board of an association serving colleges and employers in New England. Her articles have been published in the NSEE Quarterly (the professional journal of the National Society for Experiential Education) and she is the author of the book, Field Work Savvy: A Handbook for Students in Internships, Cooperative Education, Service-Learning and other forms of Experiential Education.
