WINTER 2015/2016 IN ENGELBERG
Engelberg is not just a winter resort—it’s a winter paradise. It has such a variety of activities that
guests will be tempted to extend their stay just to have a go at everything there is to do. In the
biggest and—as we Engelberger like to claim—the most beautiful ski area in central Switzerland
there are 82 km of slopes for snowboarding, skiing and sledding. 35 km of trails await crosscountry fans. An extensive winter activities program will also add variety to your ski vacation.

TITLIS XPRESS
Starting 12 December our guests will be able to ride from Engelberg
to Stand in just 16 minutes. The new 8-seater Engelberg-TrübseeStand cableway consists of two separately driven systems with a
conveyance capacity of 2,475 persons per hour, approximately 1,000
riders more than with the previous gondola system.
The travel stretch measures 4,680 m, with 164 cabins covering an
altitude difference of 1,425 m. The new cable cars load level with the
ramp allowing riders to just walk on—a lot more comfortable than
having to duck and climb in. The new TITLIS XPRESS will get winter
sports fans to the ski area faster, directly and without a long wait.
On Friday, 11 December 2015 an open-air concert will mark the
official dedication and opening of the TITLIS Xpress. The program for
this event will appear at the end of July.
Prices for single-day/multiple-day tickets and season’s passes will
remain the same as for 2014/2015.

UPGRADING THE SNOWMAKING SYSTEM
Our goal is to open the Stand-Trübsee slope on 15 November 2015.
In order to make early season openings possible in the future,
investments must be made to the existing snowmaking system. A
cooling unit will bring the temperature of water from Lake Trübsee
down to around 2°C, allowing for a more efficient production of manmade snow. With the improved system, the Stand-Trübsee slope will
be covered with artificially-made snow within 72 hours.

CHARGING STATIONS WITH 100% EWO NATURAL
ELECTRICITY
Beginning this winter season 2015/2016, Parking Lot 2 of the TITLIS
Cableway will have 6 charging stations for electricity. While our
guests ski on TITLIS, their electric cars will be recharging. The only
costs for this service will be the parking lot fee—recharging is ‘on the
house’, thanks to TITLIS Cableway. EWO (Obwalden Electric
Company) will provide the natural energy, 100% from Obwalden and
100% renewable.

ALPINE HOTEL TRÜBSEE
Alpine Hotel Trübsee’s restaurant will be expanded for the
2015/2016 winter season. A new full-service terrace restaurant, an
expanded indoor self-service restaurant, as well as a completely new
self-service terrace are under construction. Mainly wood will be used
for the decoration and furnishings so as to create a warm and homey
atmosphere. A play area, a lounge chair zone, and many other
activities are planned for the big terrace. With the opening of the
TITLIS Xpress, Alpine Hotel Trübsee will become the linchpin for the
area. At mid-station Trübsee a moving walkway will take you from
the cable car platform directly to the terrace of the Alpine hotel.

your way down the freshly groomed slopes from Stand to Trübsee.

TITLIS NIGHT RIDE; 19 FEBRUARY UND 18 MARCH 2016
Ski and snowboard into the night. The Sliding Park at Trübsee will be
open, too. Won’t all that activity work up some hunger? No problem,
there’s the Alpine Hotel Trübsee right next to the slope. Stop in at
the Trübsee Bar. Then ski down by torchlight or ride the new TITLIS
Xpress cable car down to the valley station. The cableway from
Engelberg to the top will be in operation from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.

"MAKING IT HAPPEN" PRESENTATION FROM DOMINIC GISIN
With her emotional victory in the supreme discipline downhill, during
the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014, Dominique Gisin moved people
around the world. After numerous injuries Dominique never gave up
– but kept fighting till she reached the very top. Throughout the
inspirational lecture "MAKING IT HAPPEN" the Olympic winner –
together with her mental coach Dr. Christian Marcolli – tells the story
of how she never stopped believing in herself and how she kept
fighting against all odds till she reached her goal; the Olympic gold

FIS WORDCUP SKI JUMPING; 19 & 20 DECEMBER 2015
This coming December the elite of the ski jumping world will once
again converge in the monastery town of Engelberg. The FIS World
Cup Ski Jumping competitions will take place on the 19th and 20st of
December. The events will be the first jumping competitions of the
year in Central Europe and are sure to set the mood for the exciting
and world-famous ‚Four Hills Tournament’. On the 27th and 28th of
December 2015, the Continental Cup Ski Jumping competition
promises even more thrills on the "Gross-Titlis Jump".

After a successful event in 2015, we hope for continued success with
the 2016 line-up. Several stages around Engelberg are planned. It’s

CANDLELIGHT DINNER AND MOONLIGHT AT 3,020 M
ELEVATION
Experience Mt. Titlis in a different light: enjoy a delicious Fondue
Chinoise dinner (all you can eat) in an unusual setting. At 6:30 p.m.
the cable car will leave for the top of the mountain, where you will
be greeted and seated in a candlelit dining room. The return trip to
Engelberg will be between 10-11 p.m.

The E.O.F.T tells the stories of adventurers and outdoor sports
people whose thirst for adventure is stronger than the fear of the
unknown or fear of failure. Highlighted are climbers, slackliners,
wingsuit flyers, mountain bikers and snowboarders - all who have
tested the limits and have experienced the most intense moments of
their lives.

TITLIS
TITLIS ROTAIR – 360° CLEAR AS GLASS
The TITLIS Rotair, the world’s first revolving cable car, in operation
since 1992. Last winter season 2014/2015, both of the round cable
cars, which were over 20 years old, were replaced. With the new
gondolas the entire cabin now turns during travel. Large panorama
windows afford the perfect all-round view. There are no longer any
consoles in the middle of the cabin so that entering and exiting the
cabin is faster and more convenient.

TITLIS Cliff Walk – The ultimate Kick
Elevation 3,020 meters. A 500 meter drop. 150 steps in time to the
beating of your heart. Expect this kind of thrill when you do the Titlis
Cliff Walk - a spectacular hanging bridge. Crossing this suspension
bridge requires nerves as strong as the steel cables that support it.
The bridge spans from the south face at the peak of the mountain to
the Ice Flyer chair lift station located on the glacier. The TITLIS Cliff
Walk is Europe’s highest hanging bridge-registering another record
for TITLIS.

TITLIS Glacier Cave
This glacier cave forms the frosty heart of TITLIS. The cave's 150metre-long walkway branches out in several directions and descends
20 metres below the surface of the glacier. The hazy atmosphere is
the result of tiny air pockets in the ice, and the blue colour is caused
by the refraction of light. Exploring the glacier cave is a cool
experience. The temperature inside the cave remains a frosty -1.5˚C.
Entry to the glacier cave is free of charge.

FROM PEAK TO VALLEY: 12 KM OF SNOW-COVERED SLOPES!
One of the longest downhill runs of this Alpine region is the stretch
from the top of Mount Titlis down to the town of Engelberg. The 12
km stretch has a 2000 meter difference in altitude and a guaranteed
snow base. When Mother Nature doesn’t provide enough snow, the
pistes are replenished by snow cannons.

Enjoy winter hiking on the sunny side of Engelberg. This winter
there’s a new hiking route: starting at Ristis, heading downhill over
Ried, through the forest toward the cable car, then leaving the forest
just above the cableway masts, continuing on to Restaurant Ristis.
This hiking tour can also be done in the opposite direction. The hike
takes about 1 hour.

New host for the Bergrestaurant Fürenalp
After 29 years the mountain restaurant Fürenalp changes its host.
Vreni Hurschler hands over the management to Urs Portmann on
December 1st 2015.
Urs Portmann is no rookie in Engelberg – on the contrary; Urs
Portmann has worked as head chef in the restaurant on Titlis the last
13 years. It goes without saying, that his work on Fürenalp, based on
a new concept, will not go unnoticed.
We are truly looking forward to taste his new creations on Fürenalp
during our next visit.

THE "KURSAAL"
"Kursaal Engelberg", the Art Nouveau convention center, from 1902
was re-opened to the public April 2010. The architect was able to
restore the hall practically back to its former glory. Engelberg is now
in the possesion of a „jewel“ for those looking for something unique.
Of course, the congress center is equipped with the latest technical
facilities in order to fulfill the needs and wishes of the organisers and
guests. The Foyer, meeting rooms and the necessary space for the
caterer are situated in the annex.
The Kursaal Engelberg is suitable for major events, congresses,
meetings and seminars. The big hall offers exceptional good
acoustics, therefore its ideal for hosting cultural events, banquets and
concerts. According to the seating plan up to 380 persons can be
accommodated in the nostalgic room and another 80 persons on the
gallery and balcony.

SKI LESSONS AT NIGHT
Starting around mid-December until the mid-March, every Friday

ROPE PARK ENGELBERG - OPEN ALL WINTER, TOO!
An unforgettable experience! Pure adventure! That’s Engelberg’s
Rope Park. Discover your level of capabilities on three to four
courses, each one a different level of difficulty. Cross challenging
balancing bridges, Nepalese footbridges and action-packed "flying
fox" zip lines. Try it if you dare! The park is open during the winter

Igloo Building – Team Building
Just like the Inuit! Build one or more igloos in a team. Use the task as
an incentive or in team building and leadership training. Practice
planning and communication skills while meeting the challenge in an
unfamiliar setting. Our outdoor guides will show participants how to
use the necessary tools. Your team will organize, plan and carry out
the construction of the round house. This igloo-building task is a
great activity to include as part of a company seminar. Also a great
team building exercise for teams of 4 or more people.
