Wow what a fantastic Education day last Friday.

school has changed but the core values of re-

August is Healthy Food
and Vegetable month
and we have been
learning all about the
benefits of eating different healthy foods.
This week we concentrated on Calcium and
how its important for building strong teeth and
bones. As part of this learning we made a display for our classroom.
The students have also enjoyed learning to play
on the new drum kits with Matt Zarb, during
our music lessons.
EDUCATION WEEK 2015
What a wonderful showcase of the strengths
and talents of the students of Taree Public
School! Thank you to all the parents, family and
community members who attended to make the
day so special. The children have made many
comments about how pleased they were to show
off the work they have been doing in class. It
was so lovely to see those who attended spend
some time talking to the children whose family
were unable to attend. Thank you.
The whole school assembly was the perfect opportunity to see first-hand the many talented
students – from the leaders who conducted the
assembly (Elizabeth and Joshua), Tiara who invited Uncle Russell to speak, and how could we
forget the solo performances of Imran, the
spect, responsibility and pride have remained
the same. Their message was also very strong;
that school provides a positive learning place;
anything is possible so long as you try and each
and every person is a hero.
The staff and children would also like to thank
Matt Zarb, our fabulous music tutor for the
time and dedication he put into making sure the
musical items were of such a high standard.
The weather could not have been better to join
family and friends for the sausage sizzle that
followed the assembly. Many students and parents enjoyed the games that Uncle Russell made
available during the break – they certainly reminded the more ‘elderly’ visitors recall their
school days.
The theme of Education Week – ‘Local Heroes’
was summed up in the assembly awards presented to a group of special students. These awards
were chosen not by the teachers but by the
children’s peers.
Congratulations Ava - K/1B, Charlie – K/2C,
Josie 2/3V, Caleb – K/6C, Cody – 3/6R and
Oscar 4/5/6D, and congratulations to all Taree
Public school students
for the wonderful way
in which they presented themselves on
the day.
choir and band! It was all show stopping and
foot
stomping.
Miss
Buckley’s
PowerPoint
presentation certainly gave us an indication of
how busy and diverse Taree Public school life is.
An extra special thanks goes to our two guest
speakers, Mr Ian Davey and Uncle Russell Saunders. Both gave wonderful insights into how

SMALL SCHOOLS ATHLETICS CARNVIAL
On Friday, 17th of July, students in
years 3-6 competed in the Small
Schools Athletics Carnival at the Taree
Recreational Grounds.
All students competed in their age
events and represented the school with
determination and good sportsmanship.
The stand outs for the day were Charlie
Baxter,
Michael
Armstrong,
Tiara
Cochrane-Paulson and Oscar Smith, each
coming away with runner-up age champion for their age group.
All students had a great day, despite
the freezing cold wind and overcast
weather. Well done to all competitors
who had a go and did their very best!
Good luck to our student's who
will represent our school at the
zone athletics carnival
held in
Tuncurry tomorrow.

2/3V GUPARR
Class 2/3V have been very busy learning all
about Pelicans. Where they live, what they
eat, how they catch their food, what family
they are from and lots of other interesting
facts about them. They have also done some
great artwork on Pelicans, which they have on
display in the classroom.
Below are some examples of the students
work.
Pelicans are a bird. Pelicans can swim very
fast because they have webbed feet. They
can get fish with their long bill. It has a
tail. They have black and white wings. They
can fly for 20 minutes. Sean
Pelicans are part of the bird family. Pelicans have large black and white wings. Pelicans swim in mobs or groups. Pelicans have
over 100 feathers. Pelicans have a hook on
their bill and they have two webbed feet.
Their pouches can stretch to hold more and
more food and water. Sarah
