October – the month of the Rosary
This past Friday, October 7th, the Church honored Mary in the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. In fact,
the Church celebrates the whole month of October as the month of the Rosary. The Holy Rosary is a tremendous prayer that has been praised and prayed for centuries and centuries. Pope Emeritus Benedict at an address at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major stated the following’ “In the current world, so dispersive, [the Rosary] helps to put Christ at the center, as the Virgin did, who meditated within all that was said about her
Son, and also what he did and said. When recing the Rosary, the important and meaningful moments of salvaon history are relived. The various steps of Christ's mission are traced. With Mary the heart is oriented
toward the mystery of Jesus. Christ is put at the center of our life, of our me, of our city, through the contemplaon and meditaon of his holy mysteries of joy, light, sorrow and glory. May Mary help us to welcome
within ourselves the grace emanang from these mysteries, so that through us we can "water" society, beginning with our daily relaonships, and purifying them from so many negave forces, thus opening them to
the newness of God. The Rosary, when it is prayed in an authenc way, not mechanical and superficial but
profoundly, it brings, in fact, peace and reconciliaon. It contains within itself the healing power of the Most
Holy Name of Jesus, invoked with faith and love at the center of each "Hail Mary".”
This is what the Rosary is about. Along with Mary, through the prayers of the Rosary, we contemplate the great mysteries of our salvaon brought about in and through Jesus Christ. How can we come up
with a beer “prayer partner” than Mary, who was, and is, always at the side of her Son? This is why the Rosary is one of the most powerful prayers we have available to us. Because we know that if we pray the Rosary with a sincere and an open heart, we are praying along with Our Lady and we know where she always is
– next to Christ, her Son. Thus we can be assured that our prayer and our intenons will find the warmest
welcome, for the Lord has never been in the pracce of refusing his mother.
So as we connue this month of the Rosary and reflect on this great prayer of the Church, I will leave
you with what Pope Saint John Paul II concluded in his leer on the Rosary, “I look to all of you, brothers and
sisters of every state of life, to you, Chrisan families, to you, the sick and elderly, and to you, young people:
confidently take up the Rosary once again. Rediscover the Rosary in the light of Scripture, in harmony with
the Liturgy, and in the context of your daily lives.”
During this month of the Rosary, I encourage you to rededicate yourself to, or rediscover if you need,
this tremendous prayer that calls so many graces down upon those who pray it. Pray the Rosary in the car
on the way to work or school, on the way home; pray it at home with the family, whenever you can. Even if
you can only manage one or two of the five mysteries of a whole Rosary, take advantage of this powerful
prayer. It will be a huge spiritual support in your life and lead you ever closer to Jesus.
Our Lady of the Rosary, Pray for us.
God bless you,
Father Joseph Byerley

Spiritual Center Library
According to Blessed Alain, our Most Holy Virgin Mary promised "Those who shall recite my Rosary piously, considering its
mysteries, will not be overwhelmed by misfortune.......the sinner will be converted; the just will grow in grace and become
worthy of eternal life;...what you shall ask through my rosary
you shall obtain." For over 500 Years, Catholics have
prayed the rosary and marvelous effects and conversions have
resulted and are even documented. In our Spiritual Center
Library, we have audio cassee tapes of the rosary being said
with Pope John Paul II, Father Peyton, and other well-known
priests. We also have the "Scriptural Rosary" on cassees. Many books about the rosary are available, including
the well-known "Secret of the Rosary" by St. Louis de
Monort. A very unusual book by a METHODIST MINISTER
named J. Neville Ward is available and is tled "Five for Sorrow, Ten for Joy." This is his very own tesmony about his
impressive experiences with the rosary. This month, October,
is dedicated to the rosary, and Oct. 7th is the feast day of the
rosary. Make me for the wonderful devoon, somemes
called "Mary's Weapon" or "Mary's Lasso." If possible, make it
a daily family devoon.
Please Join the Choir!
Please place the item(s) in either the food bin in church or
drop-off to the Rectory. If you have a turkey you’d like to donate, please bring directly to the Rectory for proper storage. If
you would like to donate $$ toward the purchase of a turkey,
we’d appreciate that as well. We are packing our dinners for
these families on Saturday, November 19th. Your donaons
will enable us to provide a Happy Thanksgiving to all of the 120
families. Thank you and God Bless!
Here are the details if you have thought about joining the
choir. There are no audions. You do not need to read music.
We sing at the 11:00 Mass from Sept to June. We realize you
may miss somemes, but if we all are there most of the me,
we will have enough people. We rehearse on Thursday evenings in the church sacristy at 7:30 (side entrance from the
parking lot). You will meet some great people! Come out and
try it! Quesons? Pat Innocenzo, 856-906-8310 or [email protected] Thanks!
