TSMS has taken initiative at the meeting of Implementation
of RA VI RCC Network held on 20-21 October, 2008 in
Geneva, Switzerland in order to carry out the following
responsibilities:
• Monthly or quarterly bulletins analysing and interpreting
GPC products
• Monthly maps of TT, RR
• Eastern Mediterranean dataset

Web site designed by Kamuran Akyıldız
TSMS has been delivering climate monitoring and seasonal forecast products to
the Eastern Mediterranean countries through web site as a contribution to the RA
VI Pilot RCC Network since April 2009. These climate prediction and information
services contribute to enhanced social and economic resilience and decision
making in many climate-sensitive sectors such as water, agriculture, fisheries,

health, forestry, transport, tourism,
energy and disaster risk management.

Monitoring
Monitoring data have been reprocessed, spatially enhanced and mapped by using ArcGIS Spatial
Analyze Tool and Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) interpolation technique. (cell size:3x3km)

Rain rate anomaly calculation
2m temperature and rain rate anomaly data have been downloading from ECMWF
by selecting 19.00E-45.00E Longitudes and 21.00N-43.00N Latitudes as NetCDF.
Because of the rain rate anomaly data unit is (m/s -1) rain rate map legend has been
converted to the mm/month by using below formula:

Prediction
Prediction data have been downloading from ECMWF and enterpolating again by selecting from ArcGIS
ArcToolbox, Multidimention Tools, Make NetCDF Raster Layer, (cell size: 25x25km)

12/18
Products
2m Temperature and Precipitation for the last month are been monitoring
Delivering the products to the website
End of the each month, the products have been delivered via ftp.
As soon as 11 products are copied to the server, web site
automatically is updated.

13/18
Products
Each month, 4 prediction maps (T+1, T+2, T+3 and 3 months)
have been preparing for 2m temperature and rain rate.

Training & capacity building
More than 300 participants have been trained in WMO RTC in Alanya
Facilities on Climate Indices, Regional Climate Models (PRECIS,

We hope that The Eastern Mediterranean Climate Center will be helpful for the countries
located in the region, to their related sectors and decision makers.
