38-year old Elsa is an art historian and is meant to be investigating a burglary. It is a very special
commission, as the painting in question is one that has belonged to Elsa’s family for generations and
according to family legend, depicts her great grandmother Anneli Gensheim. However, Elsa’s father
had sold the painting to an auction house several years ago. During her search for the missing
painting, the art historian delves deeper and deeper into her own secretive family history and not only
discovers the true identity of the woman in the painting, but also who her great grandmother Anneli
really was…

Mohamed – Eine Abrechnung
Muhammad - A Reckoning
Droemer, October 2015, 224 pages
Muhammad’s biography was written 200 years after his death – with political intention: Muslim
princes were seeking to secure their positions and oppose Jesus with one of their own legitimised
ruling redeemer figures. However, the ambivalent image of a figure, radically changing and suffering
from psychic issues, has been maintained. Here the mild, there the violent Muhammad. In his
biographical sketch, Hamed Abdel-Samad traces the fateful consequences that have grown from these
traditions to this day – and why radical Islamists cite the ‘Prophet’ with the same right as secular and
integrated Muslims.
The author
Hamed Abdel-Samad was born in 1972 near Cairo and studied English, French, Japanese and
Politics. He worked for USESCO, at the Institute for Islamic Culture at the University of Erfurt and
at the Institute for Jewish History and Culture at the University of Munich. Abdel-Samad is a member
of the German Islam Conference and is considered to be one of the most renowned Islam intellectuals
in the German-speaking area. His autobiography ‘My Farewell from Heaven’ caused quite a stir

What HAVING does to BEING
Pattloch, October 2015, 320 pages
How different we humans are. Some go on consumption binges – they buy cupboards full, delight in
owning material goods and draw self-affirmation from it. Others on the other hand could not care less
about owning things – they are searching for a meaning in life and orientated towards unusual
experiences that will help them along. The social psychologist Jens Förster shows very clearly under
which influences our needs fall, why we follow our goals in life and whether they are actually suited
to making us happy. He sounds out our sensitivities in today’s affluent society and on this basis
develops a completely new theory on the relationship between Being and Having.

Mantras
O.W. Barth, September 2015, 304 pages
What they mean, how to implement them, why they help
For centuries people have used power words, formulae or holy syllables in order to delve into their
inner feelings and to resonate with the divine. Meditation using mantras helps to free oneself from the
many disruptive influences to our awareness. This path builds upon the fact that the universe and all
that lives in it, consists of sound vibrations. Mantras are ‘mind power encased in sound’. This mind
power is used intensively in all cultures. Christine Stecher maintains a neutral perspective and does
not only place the focus on the birthplace of all mantra practice: India. In fact, in the lexical part, she
is able to present an overview that reflects the richness of the mantra world in all spiritual traditions.
Due to the wealth of background information and the clear, practical instructions, the mantras
become a helpful accompaniment in daily life.
The author:
Christine Stecher works as a freelance editor and non-fiction author covering subjects such as health,
holistic healing and spirituality. She first encountered mantras some twenty years ago through the
Indian wisdom teachers Amma and Gurumayi. This awakened her interest for the Holy Mother Mary
and the Christian tradition’s power formulae. As a practitioner of Kundalini yoga, she obtained a lot
of experience with the energising effect of mantras.

Todesdeal
Fatal Deal
Droemer, October 2015, 480 pages
A brutal war has been raging in the African Republic of the Congo for years. It is a war for precious resources that are
exploited aplenty in this bitterly poor country, resources that are necessary for every digital device on this planet. Martin,
a young journalist from Berlin, travels to Congo for his first major research assignment. Shortly after his arrival he is
taken hostage by the militia of a local warlord. To his surprise a businesswoman from Ruanda ransoms him – but not
without a price. The inexperienced journalist falls into the ruthless hands of Russian oligarchs, Chinese investors and
German arms dealers. Too late he realizes that he is only a bargaining chip in a geopolitical game of powers in which the
distribution of raw materials for the 21st century is negotiated – and that his first big research assignment could be his last.
"Gripping and highly relevant – and closer to reality than one would like." Sebastian Fitzek
"A hot topic! This is the political thriller of the year." Andreas Eschbach

Willkommen im Meer
Welcome to the Sea
Knaur, August 2015, 432 pages
The book that caused a “lovestorm”
After Kai-Eric Fitzner suffered from a stroke in May 2015, his wife published a desperate call urging people to buy her husband's self-published novel to help support the
family in these tough times. “Welcome to the Sea” became a much-loved bestseller virtually overnight. The author has since awoken from coma and struggles to return to
normal life. His dream to find a publishing house has come true with Knaur publishing his novel.
Tim puts his heart and soul into being a teacher. His mission is to encourage his pupils to not simply accept everything as a given but to question with an open mind and form
their own opinion. His unconventional style of teaching is met with hostility at his new school in Oldenburg. When he and his wife become friends with some of the pupils
and he even allows a desperate senior pupil to live with him, his standing in the school becomes even more precarious. Soon the unorthodox teacher is faced with an
employment ban. But even though Tim's enemies fight with the gloves off, Tim has the unwavering support of his family and his pupils.
A wonderfully easygoing novel, dealing in a dynamic, funny and profound way with topics such as school, humanism, malice, social criticism, Oldenburg, the PISA-studies,
colonialism, do-gooders, the moneyed, the teacher's room, Tolkien, Portugal, mothers, children, marihuana, employment bans, radicals, red wine, the beach, EMEA, toddlers,
christmas, friendship, satchels, vernacular, 9/11, cooking recipes, globalisation, weather, intelligence tests, pupils – all in one single, stunning novel: A modern fairytale for
everybody who still believes in the good in people and the possibility of a better life.
The author:
Kai-Eric Fitzner was born in Bremen in 1970. He penned his early work, a story about a greedy
rabbit, when he was seven years old. It caused furore on his grandmother's birthday party. After
school he studied philology which in this day and age only consequently lead to a career in IT. He
lives with his family in Oldenburg and is a sought-after speaker.
