The Irish finished behind only tournament champion Ann Arbor Huron (310) and CHSL rival Divine Child amongst the field of 13 schools. Leading the way for NDP was Jackson Stowe, who tied for first in individual scoring by posting a tournament-best 76. Not far behind was Bryce Baringer, who shot a 79 to finish in 7th place. Ryan Collins (84), Kyle Lindsey (87), and AJ Carlson (93) also helped Notre Dame by earning top-40 finishes. Riga gave the Blazers an early lead, scoring in the 5th minute but Erika Wiest would counter for the Irish in the 37th minute to tie the score 1-1 heading into halftime. Riga would add her second goal of the game in the 66th minute which would turn out to be the difference maker. Megan Kraus went the distance in net for the Irish, who were outshot 15-7. With the loss NDP is now 6-4 (3-3). Sarah Mazur and Eileen Haig helped provide defensive help in front of goalkeeper Megan Kraus, who recorded the shutout. Scoring for the Irish were AJ Carlson (40), Bryce Baringer (42), Jackson Stowe (42), Jack Dimefski (44, Ryan Collins (44), and Kyle Lindsey (48). The JV team also fell to U of D Jesuit, 188 strokes to 163 at Crystal Lake. Leading scorers for NDP were Zane Shango (38), Nick Raggio (44), Jack Williams (45), and Avery Arelaez (47). Although the Eaglets held a 3-1 lead early on the Irish would score the final three goal of the first half to take a 4-3 lead into the break. In the second half NDP continued to control possession and limit OLSM on offense, outscoring St. Marys 4-2 in the half to earn the 8-5 victory. Ryan Genord led Notre Dame Prep with 5 goals while Mitchell Woodrich, Ryan MacIntyre and Shawn Potwardowski also found the back of the net against OLSM all-state goalie Ben Barrick. “This was not an easy game. (Orchard Lake) has some tough kids,” Coach Ron Hebert said. “Walker is a great coach. I coached him in college and he has done a great job with those kids. They are a real tough team to beat and only getting better.” The Irish head to Novi on Saturday before wrapping up the CHSL regular season on Sunday against Royal Oak Shrine. Notre Dame Prep fell in both games of a double header to Riverview Gabriel Richard by scores of 4-1 and 9-4. The 8 unearned runs given up on the day proved to be too much for the Irish to overcome as Bella McLaury was dominate in the circle for the Pioneers. McLaury picked up both wins, going the distance in both games as she struck out 23, walked 6, and only yielded 10 hits. Caley Gleason took both Irish losses despite only giving up 5 earned runs. Notching victories for the Irish were senior Jermaine Johnson (53.1) in the 400m dash, senior Logan Verheyen in the 110m hurdles (18.59) and in the 300m hurdles (45.4), junior Chris Wardlow (17’4”) in the long jump, junior Matt Durkin (5’6”) in the high jump, junior Nathan Mylenek (4:29.85) in the 1600m run, and senior Ryan Obear (2:04.53) in the 800m run. The Irish also went 1-2-3 in the 3200m run with Mylenek (10:01.96) leading the way followed by sophomore Brendan Fraser (10:15.44) and junior Neil Kaufman (10:57.39). In relays, Notre Dame won three of four races, taking top billing in the 4x200m, 4x400m, and 4x800m. The Girls Track and Field team dropped their dual meet to Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard. Seniors Andrea Pangori and Lauren McGrath led the Irish. Pangori topped the field in the 200m dash (27.82) and McGrath won the 800m run (2:28.56). Freshman McKenna Dooley was first in the long jump (12’7”). The 4x800m relay team of freshman Lauren Neiheisel, sophomore Dana Pangori, freshman Claire Seitzinger, and McGrath won with a time of 10:53.35. Additional scoring was added by Kevin Cragg (2 goals), Jonmikal Dragojevic (2 goals), Nick Batchynski (1 goal), and Austin Greif (1 goal and 2 assists). Goalie Antonio Popp recorded his first shutout of the season in the win. The next day Marist headed to St. Lawrence and faced the undefeated Mustangs. The Irish started out fast scoring just four seconds into the game with Austin Greif winning the face off and hitting an open Max Stowe who found the net. St. Lawrence’s offense was stymied by the Irish defense who crowded the Mustang shooters to the edges of the box. As the game went on Marist would build a 6-1 lead halfway through the 4th quarter. The Mustangs would add 2 late goals but the Irish would still come away with a 6-3 win. Stowe (3 goals, 1 assist), Greif (1 goal, 1 assist), and Dragojevic (2 goals) led the scoring once again. Joey Lopez, Tyler Rowe, Nolan Weimer and Peter Hanna combined for a total of 14 ground balls to help out on the defensive end. The Irish currently sit at 5-0. Marist first faced off against Our Lady of Good Counsel. A combination of a solid defense and efficient offense gave the Irish a 10-3 victory. Scoring was lead by Max Stowe (7goals, 2 assists) and goals from Bryce Caldwell, Andrew McGhee, and Austin Greif. Joey Lopez led the defense with 9 ground balls with help from Kolbe Eurick and Nolan Weimer. Brian Gebara, Keegan Lewerenz and Ryan Lindsay provided excellent midfield play. Marist took on Guardian Angels the next day and again a combined team effort resulted in another victory. Despite being tied 2 - 2 at the end of the 1st quarter Marist pulled away with an 11-3 win. Once again Stowe led the scoring with 8 goals and one assist. Austin Greif notched two goals and three assists. Caldwell (1goal, 2 assists), Logan Currie (1 assist) and Nicholas Batchynski (1 assist) rounded out the scoring. Marist’s defense comprised of Tyler Rowe, Ian Hoke, Weimer, Lopez, and Eurick provided a difficult challenge for Guardian Angels offense, holding them to one goal through three quarters. Peter Hanna and Michael Robbins also chipped in on the defensive end and goaltender Antonio Popp made a number of critical saves. GOLF ENTERS CHSL STRETCH RUN BLAZERS COOL OFF IRISH Notre Dame Prep headed to Livonia Ladywood for a battle of the top-2 teams in the CHSL Division II. It was the Blazers who got the best of the Irish, winning the game by a score of 9-6 and dropping NDP’s record to 6-4 on the year. Ladywood got off to an early 2-0 but the Irish would anwers, getting 2 goals from Izzy Case to tie the game up. However, the Blazers would add 3 goals before halftime to take a 5-2 lead into the break. Before half, Ladywood scored 3 more and went into halftime with a lead of 5-2. NDP would cut the deficit to 1 on goals by Case and Morgan Gales but Ladywood would pull away with 4 unanswered goals to take a 9-4 advantage. Anna Grace Agro would try and lead the Irish back with 2 late goals but the Blazers would hold on for the win. Notre Dame will take on Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard in the CHSL Semi-Finals next Tuesday with a possible rematch with Ladywood set if NDP can come away with a victory. Notre Dame played a series of golf matches this week as the Irish entered the heart of their CHSL schedule. On tuesday NDP headed to The Cattails in South Lyon to take on Catholic Central and DeLaSalle. Notre Dame took second, finishing with a team score of 165. JV SOFTBALL CRUSHES RGR The JV Softball team earned 2 big wins over Riverview Gabriel Richard, defeating the Pioneers 21-0 and 15-0. In the opener, Emma DiNardo, Mary Yanik and Rebecca Petrella each had 2 hits and scored 3 runs in a game that saw Notre Dame cross the plate 21 times. Paige Greenwell and Petrella each picked up 3 RBI for NDP and DiNardo fired a no-hitter to get the win. In the second game Megan Gowdy went 2 for 2 for the night with an 1 RBI, Mary Tuski went 3 for 4, scoring 1 run and driving in 2 as the Irish would score 16 more runs.
