FROM THE PRESIDENT
T
he JDCHR just keeps growing, with our events attracting more and more members. Thank you everyone for supporting the Club, and enjoying camaraderie
that this fellowship offers.
Our mid week run to Terrigal with Graham Lloyd, roving reporter for Australian Jaguar Magazine, had 20 cars come along for the interviews and
pictures; and the resulting article that Graham wrote does the Club proud. We’re not
sure if the whole article will be published in its entirety or edited back for final production,
but in any case, it is a great promotion for the Club and members.
A magnificent run for Max’s 90th Birthday, another record number of cars and members
helping celebrate achievement of this milestone. After morning tea with cutting of ―the
cake‖ it was off for Max’s Mystery Meander through the rich fertile country around Maitland, made so from all the flooding over hundreds of years leaving rich silt behind, culminating with lunch
at Larg’s Pub, whose owner just happens to drive an S Type! Max looked superb, more like 60 than 90,
as he drove the XK140.
Plans are progressing for our JDCHR 30th Anniversary Pearl Jubilee.
Invitations will be going out to all members, past members and supporters of
the JDCHR, so please fill in your details on the form and return so we can allocate your tickets, organise the prizes for the ticket draw, and co-ordinate with Club
Macquarie for the menu. Our member No 001, Tony Herald, will be giving an overview of the formation of the Club, the early years through to today. We are indeed
fortunate that we have Tony as a committed member with all the history.
We are organising an interesting Keynote Speaker for the evening who will entertain us, as well as our
usual fun raffle. STOP PRESS: Keynote Speaker will be Ron Gaudion, the only mechanic to have
worked on all three Le Mans winning D Types.
As I write this, it is only 14 days till we leave on our JDCHR Sojourn Inland to
the Coast - Tour to National Rally 2013. I’m sure this is going to be as enjoyable
with lots of fun, hilarity with the odd ice cream to savour, as the previous six annual trips have been. Again, we have some new members joining us so we look
forward to introducing them to how we roll along, enjoy the scenery, meet up
with people along the way who have something interesting to
show us.
We look forward to seeing everyone at future Club outings, and our Club meeting, safe and enjoyable driving.

SOCIAL SECRETARY‘S REPORT
O
ne of our members Michael Laugesen has recently had a stroke and
has been treated at John Hunter Hospital. Our thoughts and prayers
are with Michael, Joyce and family for his continued speedy recovery.
In February we have had a couple of good runs, the Mid Week Run to Terrigal and a
special run to Largs pub to have a celebratory lunch with Max Paterson for his 90th birthday. More
importantly these were an opportunity for Max to celebrate the return of his XK140 after some
decades of separation.
This month’s events begin on Saturday 9th March, with our visit to the Hawks Nest Motorfest. This
will be an excellent day with many and varied cars on display. There is an admission charge of ten
dollars, but this is a fundraising day, the beneficiaries this year being the local bush fire brigade
and the surf club. There are raffles, the major prize being a weekend for a family at the Boathouse
Luxury Resort . Two sets of 25 lucky door prizes one set for the exhibitors and one for the visitors.
Saturday 16th Sojourn Inland to the Coast run begins, where the participants will cover nearly
5000km en route to the National Rally and return. Good luck and happy travels to all of them.
Thursday 21st Mid week run to Bunna Bunoo olive grove at Vacy. We arrive there just after
10:00am for morning tea and an escorted tour on the bus for $8.50, alternatively the tour alone is
$3.50. The tour finishes in the gift shop where we can purchase their products. After we finish
there we are booked for lunch to the Farmers Rest Hotel Vacy.
Friday to Sunday 29th -31st is the Jaguar National Rally at Wollongong.
Saturday 30th is the Lake Macquarie Classic Boat Show at Toronto, where those of us not on the
Inland to Coast run can come along for an entertaining day with all the classic boats and display
our cars.
We are going to Tamworth for a 4-day long weekend, leaving after lunch on Anzac Day. I have
reserved a few rooms but you need to make your bookings for accommodation independently. So
please contact me for the reservations information.
This year we are going to have a different Christmas in July, cruising with Starship Cruises on
Brisbane Water, leaving from Woy Woy. The fare is $45.00 for the cruise and lunch. This cruise is
popular and fills fast, if you are coming along, let me know ASAP and I can book you a table.
Out two annual competitive events that count towards the Club Championship are also coming
up—the Observation Run on 13th April, and the Economy Run on 19th May.
And most importantly, our Club will celebrate its 30th Anniversary on Saturday 25th May. It is necessary to RSVP by returning the flyer with your details, to reserve your place. It will be a night not
to be missed, with a great guest speaker, and tickets are free to full members.
Drive safely and enjoy your Club outings.

S
FROM THE EDITOR
ince last HUB Julianne and I have had some very interesting times—
great Club events, a motorhome holiday and some more tweaking of the
XJ6.
An interesting experience for me, was seeing Graham Lloyd from Jaguar
Australia magazine, going about his business during our Mid Week Run to Terrigal, as he collected photographs, handwritten notes and interviews on tape, for their forthcoming feature on our
Club, for our 30th Anniversary. As a hard-working amateur, I found it fascinating to see how he
worked. What I won’t see, unfortunately, is how they go about condensing some 20 interviews and
hundreds of photos into a short article of perhaps 3-4 pages. We will all look forward to seeing our
Club written up in Jaguar Australia some time soon. Go to Page 18 for more on this outing.
The other important event that is included in this month’s HUB was Max Paterson’s special Mid
Week Run on 27th February, to celebrate his 90th birthday and his re-acquisition of his original
XK140. Read more starting on Page 10.
I am this month indebted to Tamworth member Ian Collett, who has contributed two stories and
photos in the issue—his trip to the Gnoo Blas Classic (page 28) and a local run to Uralla (page
32). Other members might like to follow Ian’s example—please?
I’m noticing with some anxiety, that there’s some minor drama to write about each month concerning my XJ6. This month it was the cooling system. The upper radiator blanking cap started to leak
under pressure despite a new cap, on the February run to
Terrigal. My knowledgeable friends Peter Dwyer, Don
Anderson and Ian Hissey pointed out that the filler neck was
distorted and not presenting a proper sealing face. Discrete
application of a pair of pliers made things right enough to
continue on the run.
It has now been replaced with a replacement filler neck with
a screw cap, which once again I was able to source from
Jagdaim, within a day of ordering it. Great service.
Our motorhome holiday for two weeks in February was a great adventure. We’d done a number of
these trips in smaller hired vehicles hear and in New Zealand, but this time we opted for more
space and comfort in a 22 foot machine. Wonderful!
Why do I mention this? Because every time I go on holidays, the production of the HUB becomes
an issue. For short absences I can cram the work in before and afterwards, but for longer holidays
I would need to rely again on President Ian Hissey to step in—but he’s busy already. So I’m looking for someone who’d like to be trained up to be the backup person—to learn the process so that
he/she could take over if I’m away. I’m happy to continue as Editor as long as that's needed, but I
really would like a Plan B so I can freely plan holidays in the future.
No pushing! Take a number and I’ll get to you as soon as I can!
Until then, keep you cat purring (and cool!).

MAX--90 AND XK

he affection and respect that Club members hold for
20 year member Max Paterson, was reflected in the
twenty Jaguars (well, 19 plus a Daimler) that turned up
to celebrate Max’s 90th birthday on 27th February. It
was a special additional Mid Week Run for the purpose, and was a resounding success.
The fleet converged
on Stockade Hill Heritage Park in East
Maitland, some having started at Club

from home. Mary Cox,
in her usual thoughtful
fashion, had provisioned us with a unique birthday cake,
which carried a photo of Max and his XK140, emblaMax swings into the Stockade Hill zoned into the icing—almost too good to eat, but we
managed it! The nice rotunda in the park provided a percarpark in the XK140
fect setting for us to toast Max’s birthday with our tea and
coffee, and sing him Happy Birthday. The JDCHR choir however, still has work to do!!

President Ian Hissey spoke of Max’s
participation in the Club and extended
the Club’s good wishes, after which Max
responded with his recollections over his
life with JDCHR. He spoke about the
enjoyment the Club and its people have
given him over the years, and it was
obvious that Max was having a wonderful day. Well, at least he did after a quick
change of footwear, after one

of his shoes parted company with its sole!
After birthday cake, it was Max’s turn to be the leader, as he took
us on a meandering drive over a great circuit of roads through
Lower Hunter River farming country. Max explained that we would
be circling a collection of very productive and valuable farm properties, which have been topped up with good quality alluvial soils
by regular floods over the centuries.
The fleet of Jaguars stayed pretty much together once we cleared
the urban areas, and made an awesome sight, cruising along the
country roads

customers may have even liked the cars? But we’ll never know, after he threatened to whipper-snipper his footpath if the cars weren’t moved.
So, a great day for a fondly loved member of our Club, and for those of us who were able to share
it with him.

A
FEBRUARY MID WEEK RUN
re we just a bunch of media junkies or what? When Ian sent the word out that Graham
Lloyd from Jaguar Australia magazine would be meeting up with the February Mid Week
Run to Terrigal on 6th February, no less than 20 cars turned up! But why not anyway? It
was a perfect day, a beautiful spot to have lunch by the water, and some nice driving ion
the way.
Twenty cars is an all time
record for a Mid week Run,
and what a great convoy it
looked. A lot of variety too,
from Max Paterson’s XK140
through to moderns like Bill
Whitby’s S Type and Graeme
and Mary Cox’s XF.
Graham Lloyd worked hard the entire day, including
going ahead to take up roadside positions for photographing the passing parade, to spending hours with
owners and their cars, interviewing people about their
Jaguar history and their involvement in the Club. I didn’t
see him have anything for lunch—he was running on
Jaguars! The article, when it comes out, should be a
great keepsake for us all.
Above: Ready for departure
on another Mid Week Run—
or nearly so, as soon as the
editor‘s cooling system is
sorted!
Norah Head lighthouse was our
smoko location, and then it was
down to Terrigal for fish and
chips by the sea. That is always
enjoyable, the place still buzzing with holiday makers, students or others who managed
somehow not to be working.
The takeaway on the headland
managed reasonably well under the onslaught, and one way
or another everyone had something to eat before we were off
to more important business –
arranging the cars for more
photos.

It’s amazing how, as you get older, there can
still be an endless supply of new sights to
observe. Or perhaps it’s just that retirement
gives you more time to notice. At Terrigal,
some new uses for the thoughtfully provided
fish cleaning table were apparent. Firstly, a

gent emerged from the water and proceeded to use the fish cleaning table’s hose to have a
shower. OK, that works. Next, a man hoisted his poodle or similar (I’m not that knowledgeable
about dog breeds) onto the fish cleaning table and proceeded to bath it. Something told me that
was not OK. Unless it was a dogfish!?
This was a Mid Week Run with a difference, and as usual was very much enjoyed by the large
contingent of members who supported it.

IAN COLLETT‘S GNOO BLAS
Arrangements for this year’s Gnoo Blas Classic kind of went through to the keeper, and only a
few members were interested in going this year. Nevertheless, Ian Collett from Tamworth made
the journey and sent these words and photos—thank you Ian.
Editor
W
e attended the Gnoo Blas show in Orange on our way home from
Canberra and Goulburn, travelling up through Taralga, Sofala,
Oberon and Bathurst . The road was good bitumen all the way and
a typical country road with many corners and bumps, including a
huge one,
read mountain, climbing
Ian Collett ‗s XK8
up from Sofala.
We met up with some of the friendly
members from the Orange & Central
West Jag Club and spent a brilliant sunny
day with them talking "Jag-Speak"
amongst everything else. They had 6 or 7
nice Jags including a very good XJS, my
XK8 and another near identical XK8 in
their display and there was a good number of various Jags scattered around the
other displays.
The fully booked dinner on Saturday night was at the Orange RSL and we had a very good meal
as well as meeting old racers, Jim Richards and Colin Bond, who re-lived some

VISIT URALLA NSW
Readers may recall that Tamworth member Ian Collett participates in a New England classic car
group. He sent this report after a trip to Uralla in the New England, and is suggesting the Club put
this into our Calendar. We will be visiting Uralla on our four day weekend to the Tamworth Classic
Motor Show in April. Looks great, and thanks once again, Ian.
Editor
T
oday some of our Tamworth
car group went for a great
lunch to the multi award winning Uralla Historical Society
Inc. McCrossin's Mill Museum
in sleepy Uralla.
The lady volunteers catered for us and
we had a superb lunch in the shady
garden and tour of the Museum which
is dedicated to all things about the Bushranger Thunderbolt, as well as Chinese gold miners and
other significant Uralla identities.
There are 3 floors of exhibits ( with a chair lift
for those who need it) and a great series of
Thunderbolt paintings by Stephen Pomeroy.
It's well worth a visit if you have time when you
come to the Armidale - Tamworth area.
For morning or afternoon tea or lunch you
would need to book and they would need a
minimum number.
I've attached a few pics of the cars taken by
Col Newman, one of the group. The sole Jag
was John Lisle's very nice BRG Series 2 E type
roadster with the hard top.

Look out—speed camera!
And finally, some pearls of wisdom:
 Sex is not the answer. Sex is the question.
"Yes" is the answer!
 Women might be able to fake orgasms. But
men can fake a whole relationship!
 The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's
still on the list!
 Light travels faster than sound. This is why
some people appear bright until you hear
them speak!
 If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong!
 Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit;
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad!
