Third Annual Catdance Film Festival
6pm Saturday March 22
Home of Barry Hanover and Allison Richards
By general acclaim the WMJR is
keeping up the Catdance Film Festival tradition through the gracious
support of Barry Hanover and Allison Richards, who are hosting once
again.
The format will be the same as the
last two years. A pot luck dinner at
6pm will start the affair, with Jaguar
themed movies to follow—loosely
interpreted.
By tradition we’ll begin with a
screening of the incomparable
C'était un rendez-vous, a spellbinding 10 minute high speed tour of
Paris viewed from the bumper of a
Ferrari 275GTB.
Following will be film(s) selected by
audience choice, from:
1) Robbie Coltrane: Incredible Britain: “Robbie Coltrane explores
Britain’s back roads in this offbeat travel program in when the
actor/comedian sets off in his
classic Jaguar roadster on a quest
to encounter quirky locals and
discover little-known rural traditions. Coltrane happens upon a
scarecrow convention, takes part
in Mytholmroyd’s pudding eating
contest, meets colorful people
with extraordinary talents and
much more.
2) Danger: Diabolik: No loot is
safe when criminal mastermind
Diabolik (John Phillip Law)
sets his sights on stealing it —
and that’s bad news for harried
Inspector Ginko (Michel Piccoli), his police force and a whole
army trying to capture the slippery thief. Using his prodigious
wit and gadgetry that would
make James Bond envious, Diabolik always gets away —
with help from his shapely partner (Marisa Mell) — in this
stylish caper flick helmed by
Mano Brava.
3) The Fast and Furious: Frank
Webster is a fugitive on the lam
after being framed for murder.
He’s on a mission to clear his
name, but when he steals Connie
Adair’s Jaguar to elude the cops,
Frank gets tangled in a romantic
web that’ll only add to his troubles.
4) Watkins Glen: the Street Years
1948-1952: In 1948 Cameron
Argetsinger, a young law student
and sports car enthusiast decided
to stage a European-style road
race through Watkins Glen, NY.
Now more than 50 years later,
racing continues to thrive at Watkins Glen, the site now known
worldwide as the birthplace of
road racing in America. This is
the story of the first five years of
racing in Watkins Glen, when
cars raced through the streets of
the village.

007 An Alcoholic

I have often thought that James Bond
drinks too much alcohol, enough to
impair his skill in fights, car chases
and seduction. Now a scientific survey has been carried out by three
doctors who are consultants at Nottingham University Hospital, reported in the British Medical Journal.
They read all 14 Bond books, taking
notes on every drink mentioned, usually vodka martinis. They excluded
days when Bond would have been
unable to drink because of imprisonment or other such reasons. They
found that he drank an average of 92
units a week, which is a little over
four times the NHS recommendation
that men should drink no more than
21 units per week. [Ed. note: a unit
is 10ml; a typical drink contains
1—3 units]
This puts him “in the highest risk
group for malignancies, depression,
