This life-long commitment has led to a rich
and varied
career.
Founder, artistic and
JUNE GOLDSMITH
executive director of
the popular daytime concert series Music in
the Morning, she currently is a music lecturer
and radio broadcaster.
As a broadcaster, June regularly appears
with host Sheryl MacKay on the CBC Radio
One program North by Northwest. One of
her CBC fans emailed: “I would walk for a
mile, uphill, in the snow, barefoot, to hear
June Goldsmith talk about music.”
Known for her youthful vibrancy and
dynamic versatility with musical genres
and styles, Mélanie Léonard is increasingly
sought after as a guest conductor. She
served as Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s
Resident Conductor from 2009 to 2012
and as Associate Conductor for the 20122013 season.

Avan Yu sprang to international attention

International Piano Competition in 2012,

The film begins with the death of Ludwig van
Beethoven. His secretary starts the search for
the mysterious person to whom Beethoven has
left his possessions, his works and his money. The
will states: “To my immortal beloved”. His search
of clues to Immortal Beloved, reveals a man of
extremes: a musical genius, a rebellious invalid, a
melancholy lover...

been translated and distributed around the world,
and made into an Emmy award-winning film. The
Beethoven Lives Upstairs theatrical symphony
concert introduces audiences of all ages to the life
and music of Ludwig Van Beethoven.
This world famous production features a lively
exchange of letters between young Christoph and
his uncle. Their subject is the “madman” who has
moved into the upstairs apartment of Christoph’s
Vienna home.
Finally, after attending the famous first performance of the Ninth Symphony, Christoph comes to
understand the genius of Beethoven, the torment
of his deafness, and the beauty of his music.
