Media information Sparkasse KölnBonn and its Stiftung “Ludwig van Beethoven der Sparkasse in Bonn” support the Beethoven Festival. This year’s theme is “Transformations”. March 8, 2013 For four weeks this autumn, Bonn will once again be a Mecca for music-lovers of all ages. Featuring top international orchestras and prominent soloists, renowned ensembles and talented young artists, the 2013 Beethoven Festival is sure to be feast for the senses. Through their subsidies, Sparkasse KölnBonn and its “Stiftung Ludwig von Beethoven der Sparkasse in Bonn”, which was founded in 1997, are providing essential sponsoring support for the organization of this major musical event of supraregional and international significance again this year. “The Festival has become an integral part of the music scene in the city and the entire region and a highlight on the international festival calendar,” notes Artur Grzesiek, Chairman of the Executive Board of Sparkasse KölnBonn. His institution has contributed well over three million EUR in support of this musical event since the first Beethoven Festival in 1999. The theme of this year’s Festival is “transformations” in art. Change, evolution and progression are essential elements not only of music and art but of human life itself. In music, transformations take place in the form of musical variations, arrangements and compositional adaptations. That works of music undergo transformations and changes in every performance, every production and every interpretation is more than just a truism. It is also the source and foundation of interest in music and the joy it brings to performing artists and audiences alike. With highly adaptable artists and a fascinating programme, the Beethoven Festival serves as a shining example of how transformations keep art alive. “We look forward again this year to an attractive and unusual musical programme of the highest quality. It promises a number of new impressions and musical surprises for our many guests,” says Artur Grzesiek.
