Saint Gall Parish is a sacramental community of faith, guided by the
Holy Spirit and centered in the celebration of the Eucharist. We share
the mission of the Catholic Church to make known the presence of
God’s saving love as revealed to us by Jesus Christ. We are dedicated
to praise and worship God, to foster spiritual growth and conversion,
to nurture our community, and to reach out to all people in their
spiritual and temporal needs.

There’s a bit of a “missing link” in the first two
sentences of today’s Gospel from Mark. In the first, the
apostles return from having been sent out on mission
two by two (“one who is sent” is the meaning of
“apostle”). Their instructions were to preach repentance,
drive out demons, and heal the sick in Jesus’ name. In
the second sentence, Jesus tells them to come away with
him and rest a while. It would be nice for us to imagine
that, between those two sentences, a look of amazed
gratitude and pleasure crossed the face of Jesus as he
hears of the kingdom proclaimed in his name, and how
they didn’t have to shake the dust off their feet
anywhere. They deserved a rest! It might not be bad for
us, when we gather together with Jesus as the apostles
do today, to do this kind of debriefing, allowing the Lord
to hear what we’ve sought to do in his name, our
successes, our failures, our need to get away with him
for a while to be fortified for further work in God’s
name. For we, the baptized, are not only the flock of
Jesus Christ; through water and the power of the Spirit
we have also become the Body of Christ, the presence of
the Shepherd for the life of the world.

Hey everyone, I hope you all are doing
well. Things have been going well for me down
here in Guanajuato. We just reached the halfway
mark (I’m here with two other seminarians Patrick
and Chris), and the classes are harder than I
thought. It’s a wonderful little city with lots of
beautiful churches, museums and cool buildings.
And I mean a lot of churches; there are five within
200 yards of each other. What’s really mindboggling is that each parish has around five Masses
every weekday, and about seven on Sundays, and
most of the Masses are full.
Another interesting thing here is that there
is a college nearby and they put on a lot of cool
things, like movies and symphonies. Also, the
people are really nice here. My professors are great
and we have many interesting discussions about
faith, religion and philosophy. The other students
are great too. A husband and wife who are also
learning Spanish took us to a “charreada” or a
rodeo outside of town.
However, other than that and an
adventure to the nearby city Leon to meet up with
a newly ordained priest who went to St. Patrick’s
seminary in Menlo Park, we haven’t really left the
city. And it is a small city; one of my favorite
things is that almost everything is within walking
Know that all of you back in
Gardnerville are in my prayers. I miss you all and
thank you all again for everything. Peace and God
