JULY NEWS
FOR THE PARENTS OF KINDERING CHILDREN
OPENING NEW
DOORS IN 2013
A NORTH CAMPUS EXPANSION!
We are excited to officially announce
that Kindering will be expanding in
2013. For those of you that have tried
to find space in our parking lot, you
know how truly maxed-out the current
building is. We can’t squeeze any
more staff or families into the current
Bellevue campus and have started
our 51st year of service by launching an expansion project.

After a lengthy, 12-month review of community need, Bothell has been identified as the
ideal location for a second Kindering campus, ensuring that we can continue to support
families in East King County. The space, located on North Creek Parkway, will be
shared with Bright Horizons (on the first floor) and Pediatric Associates (sharing the
second floor with Kindering).
6:00 p.m. -7:30 p.m.
(At Y.E.S)
The North Campus will house a robust KidsClinic serving children over age 3, new classroom space and numerous private therapy rooms. We are in the process of scheduling
space build-out and staff hiring and anticipate opening doors in December 2013.
4:00 p.m.– 7:00 p.m.
Please stay tuned for more updates through the summer and thank you for your support
as we begin an amazing growth project to support Kindering families for the next 50
years!

2013 SPEAKER SERIES–
FALL WORKSHOPS
Please join Kindering families, staff, and others from the
community for the Fall parent education speaker series
events.
Wednesday, September 25th,
“Newborn Care Simplified”, presented by
Dr. Brianna Label of Pediatric Associates.
Welcoming a newborn into your home is an exciting, yet
challenging and stressful time as families learn to adjust
to one another. We will spend time discussing
normal newborn care, feeding and sleep patterns
including what to expect in the first 8 weeks as well as
strategies for a smooth transition. There will be time for
questions and group discussion as we learn from one
another’s experiences as well.
Wednesday, October 23rd,
“Feeding a Toddler: Parent-Tested and
Pediatrician-Approved Tips for Frustrated
Parents”, presented by
Dr. Richard Keeler, Pediatric Associates.
FAMILY COST
PARTICIPATION FOR
EARLY INTERVENTION
Not all early intervention services are fully publicly
funded. Some are subject to family cost participation.
Per Washington State regulations, families are now
required to contribute financially to their child’s
program. Beginning July 1, 2013, new families will be
required to contribute by either providing access to
their insurance or by paying a monthly fee. Use of
insurance, including paying deductibles, copays, and/
or coinsurance, for services subject to family cost
participation meets the obligation. If families need
help with copays or deductibles, they may qualify for
assistance. This will not affect current families until
2014, and even then continuing with current funding
plans will be an option. If you have any questions
about this policy change, please contact Angela
Raught, Insurance Administrator or Marie Fleming,
FRC Department Manager.
EQUIPMENT RETURN AND
DONATION/ TOY RECYCLE
Equipment Return and Donation/ Toy Recycle
request from the Physical and Occupational Therapy
Staff
~ Please look around and see if staff have left toys,
equipment, and other items at your house and they
may be labeled ot/pt or Kindering . We would love to
get these items back so we can continue to provide
support to other children.
What foods are appropriate for a toddler? Why won’t my
toddler eat? Should I purchase organic foods? In this
talk, we will cover which foods are ideal for toddlers, how
to get them to eat that food and how to keep them safe at
the dinner table.
~ If you have any equipment such as walkers, posture
control walkers, seats/chairs and table or push toys,
ride’m toys and tricycles that your child has outgrown
then please consider donating them to Kindering.
We would love to foster other children’s development
through the continued use of your equipment. We can
only accept them if they are in good working condition
and easily cleaned (thus no cloth items please unless
they can be washed). Also please consider any toys
(pianos, pop up toys, stacking toys, etc.).
Speaker series events will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30
p.m. at Kindering. Due to limited seating, pre-registration
is required.
Please RSVP to Joe Cunningham at 425.653.4321 or
[email protected].
Thank you for helping us expand our resources which
provides us a “ loan and lend equipment“ service to
other families. If you have any questions please email

MAMAS & PAPAS
Kinship Caregiver
Support Group Meeting
July 9, 2013 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Y.E.S.
The Mamas & Papas is a support group for
relatives who are raising their grandchildren, nieces,
nephews, cousins, etc. These caregivers are often
called “kinship” caregivers. Our group has existed
since the spring of 2005 and we meet once per month
in the evening on the second Tuesday of the month.
We have a partnership with Y.E.S. (Youth Eastside
Services)—the building behind Kindering. We meet in
their building and they provide a concurrent support
group for the school-age children of the support group
members. Any kinship caregiver is welcome to attend
a Mamas & Papas meeting. Please contact Julie
Fisher, MSW, at 425.653.4314, if you are interested in
learning more.

HELPING INFANTS AND CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
COURAGE SUMMER CAMP
WELCOME NEW STAFF
Hi! My name is CONNIE WEBER,
and I’m excited to join Kindering as
a Family Resources Coordinator. I
grew up in Wyoming where my dad
was a special education teacher.
Because of his influence, I went
back to school after receiving my
BA in English to get a degree in
special education at the
University of Utah. I spent most
of the next 20 years working in the public
schools as an early childhood special education teacher.
In 2007 I left teaching, received my MFA in creative
writing and published a children’s book. I came back to
the world of early childhood when I joined Kindering in
May. I have a wonderful husband named Warren, a
terrific son named Coles and a sassy springer named
McKinley. When I’m not at work I enjoy writing, reading,
hunting for vintage clothing and riding my motorcycle.
Hi there! My name is
FELISE PARK and I am the
new Administrative Assistant for
Kindering. I was born and raised
in Seattle and graduated from the
University of Washington with a
Bachelor’s degree in American
Ethnic Studies with an emphasis in
Education. I developed a passion for
addressing issues of access and
equity in education—as well as a knack for organization-through my participation in the UW Dream Project at the
University of Washington. I’m a bit of a cupcake fanatic
and enjoy reading, eating, and spending time with family
and friends in my spare time. I am thrilled to join and
support the Kindering team!
Hello! My name is
CLAIRE DOUGLAS and I am
excited to join Kindering’s team as
an Occupational Therapist. I grew
up in Calgary and completed my
Bachelor’s degree in Cultural
Anthropology in Toronto. After a
brief career in publishing, I returned to university and received my
MSc in occupational therapy from the University
of Toronto. I escaped the cold winters and moved to
sunny Venice, California before recently moving to
Seattle to enjoy all it has to offer. I have worked in a
variety of settings, but have primarily been a pediatric
therapist my whole career. Outside of work, I enjoy
cooking, hiking, traveling, and planning my wedding with
my fiancé! I look forward to meeting and getting to know
all of you in the coming months.
