“TABERNACLE”
The Consecrated Hosts that remain a er Mass are kept
in the container called the Ciborium which is then
placed in the Tabernacle with a lighted candle called the
Sanctuary Lamp located nearby. A Ciborium is a
covered container made of various precious metal with
a gold-plated interior. It may also be made of local
material considered valuable, such as ebony or other
hard woods. A Tabernacle is a boxlike receptacle made
of solid nontransparent material that can be locked. It
should be placed in a place of prominence in the church
or chapel. Near the Tabernacle is placed the Sanctuary
Lamp, which should be a living flame fed by oil or wax,
usually surrounded with a red glass, but may be clear. It
is kept lit as long as there are Consecrated Hosts in the
Ciborium in the Tabernacle. The candle is ex nguished
once all the Hosts are removed. Read more on

Reaching Out Through
St. John Vianney Ministries
In the Gospel today, Jesus says “I give you a new commandment: love one another….This is
how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
In the month of April, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the
love and care of Jesus to the poor by assisting many families, providing food, and money
for utility bills, etc. Thank You!
En el Evangelio hoy, Jesus Dice “Un mandamiento nuevo les doy: Amense unos a otros….Así sabrán todos que
ustedes son mis discípulos, si tienen amor los unos por los otros.”
Current Pantry Needs/ Ahora se necesita: Canned Meats, Canned Soups, and Canned Fruits.
We do not need any Baby food at this Ɵme.
Volunteers are needed to help handle the numerous requests for assistance that come into the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
If you can donate some time to assist in this ministry, please call the parish office at 770-941-2807.
Congratulations
Sheila Riley
St. John Vianney’s Woman of the Year
I was born in Denver, Colorado on September 25, 1950. I was the “baby girl” of five children. I have two brothers and two
sisters. Being the dependent of a military family, I have lived in a good part of the country. From Colorado, Texas, Kansas,
Louisiana, all in my young life. I graduated from High School in Portsmouth, NH in 1968.
I have had so many grace filled moments in my life. I have a daughter, Jill, who is a CPA in Melbourne, FL; with a wonderful
husband and two precious grandsons. I had a son who passed away in 1995. He was a graduate of Tulane University.
On May 9, 2010, Mother’s Day that year, I lost my husband, Michael, a er losing my younger brother 5 days before. That is
when I rediscovered Catholicism that very day. I found my home at St. John Vianney. I went through the RCIA program for
myself; since I had been away from the church for a long me. I have enjoyed the RCIA program immensely and have stayed
on to sponsor 3 people and I do the Healing Sta ons of the Cross during Lent. I have worked the St. Francis Table, under
Beverlee Leo. I worked the polls with her in Douglas County a er being laid off from a warehouse job a er 20 years. I
volunteered at the Arts Center in Douglasville.
Several years ago, I found God’s true calling for me. A er taking care of my Mom who passed in 2005 and my husband in
2010, I am now a Personal Care Assistant with several clients. That gi actually started with Elfriedo Foppiano, who I cared
for before she went to the Lord and now I care for her husband, Joe, also.
There are so many people to thank for being there for me and helping me on
my journey of faith, especially Dianne & Herb Blanchard.
I started going to the SJV Bible Study and now I am the facilitator. I am
treasurer of the CCW and a member of Ultreya. I have a Blessed life through
the Grace of God and I thank each and every one of my Church Family.
God Bless,
Sheila Riley

Todays Readings
Lecturas de hoy
Acts/ Hechos 14:21-27
RevelaƟon/ Apocalipsis 21:1-5a
Psalms/Salmos 145
John / Juan 13:31-33a, 34-35
As Paul and Barnabas proclaimed
the good news on their missionary
journey, they discovered that,
though many doors were closed to
their preaching, others were wide
open. John’s vision on the isle of
Patmos was like an open door to
heaven. All the threats and perils
of the present world vanished as a
renewed world came forth. The glorious splendor of God’s
dwelling place on earth was imaged as a New Jerusalem,
beautiful as a bride coming forth to meet her spouse. The tears
and sorrows of the present age were “wiped away” as God
made all things new.
As Jesus faced the pain and agony of the Cross, his sight was
raised to the glories that God prepared for his faithful one.
Jesus knew that his disciples would grieve when he departed
from the earth, and he consoled them with his abiding love.
Jesus showed them how to love by his own self-giving.
Though Jesus would no longer be visible, people would see
him by the love his followers showed to them. When the
world sees our compassionate care for one another, it will
truly be heaven on earth.
For Reflection: In what ways am I being asked to show love
today? Who’s tears can I wipe today?
Weekly Stewardship Scripture Reflections
In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives His disciples – and us – a
new commandment: “Love one another.” Good
stewards who spend their me and talents in service to
others are well on their way to fulfilling this
commandment.
