A Proper
Perspective
J
esus set many things in motion while in His fleshly
form. He modeled a new Way, a new Kingdom. He
often spoke in parables and was misunderstood.
On one occasion Luke records His disciples
wanted clarity about a fundamental component
of the faith. “Lord, teach us to pray…” Matthew’s
account goes a step further than that of Luke.
Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV
As I was reading this passage as part of my
daily Bible reading, as
most of us have done
often, I was struck by
the last part. “For thine
is the Kingdom, and
the power, and the
glory, forever. Amen.”I
wondered why Jesus saw
the need to include what
would seem obvious to
most believers. Could it
be He knew the tendency
of His followers
toward going
their own way?
Maybe He knew
the disciples would
later debate who
was greatest. Was
it possible He heard
echoes of a future
mother’s request for her sons to sit on His left and
right hand?
Prayer but have also heard it may better be
called the model prayer. Either way I believe He’s
saying much more than words or just tagging on
a flowery ending to His prayer. I believe He is
trying to teach his disciples of all ages a proper
perspective.
We are encouraged to be reminded and affirm it is
His Kingdom. Too many times we see the effects
of men and women building their own kingdom.
Kingdom teaching has been grossly abused
as have most teachings of
Christ. I’m sure He knew
the vulnerability of His
message. John the Baptist
began preaching that the
kingdom was at hand. Many
interpreted his message
in a more political sense
of casting off the Roman
oppression.
A kingdom has a king and
the king has ultimate rule
and reign. The Lord
reminds us to maintain
this perspective. It
reminds me of the
hymn, “I Surrender All”.
Our lives are not our
own. He has bought
us with a price. We are
to remember it’s His
kingdom, His house. He gets to do with it and us
as He wills. Our mantra is nevertheless, not my
will but His be done!

Next our attention is directed to the fact that
it’s His Power. Many times ministry succumbs
to the seductive snare of the need to make
something happen. Unless the Lord builds the
house we labor in vain. This is not an excuse
for laziness rather a call to recognize it’s not by
our might or
our strength
but by His
Spirit. Fact
is God can
accomplish
more in five
minutes than
we can in 5
years!
A Proper
Perspective
Lastly he reminds us that the glory belongs
to Him. It’s His Glory! In Acts 12:21-24 Herod
gave a great oration. The people declared it
to be the voice of a god. Herod did not give
God the glory and worms ate him and he died.
I love verse 24, “But the word of God grew
and multiplied.”
Man’s glory is a
vain glory but
God’s glory is
from everlasting
to everlasting.
May we ever be
mindful that all
the glory belongs
to Him. It’s joy
unspeakable
and full of glory. May we not fall prey to the
temptation to take a little for ourselves.

Of late I have found myself asking the Lord why
He chose to build His church out of people! We
are stubborn, stiff-necked, rebellious, slow to
learn and desirous of doing things our way. 2
Corinthians 4:7 This lets us know we are frail
clay vessels chosen that the supereminence of
His power is recognized as coming from God
and not us.
What a beautiful reminder our Lord gives in His
model of prayer. It’s His Kingdom, His Power
and His Glory forever! Always has been and
always will be. Help us Lord to get on board
with your will and your ways. Amen!

Mission ImPossible
Do you remember the classic TV show Mission:
Impossible? Intricate plots, dire situations, ingenious
devices, split-second timing – all of these combined
to keep you on the edge of your seat for 60 minutes.
Maybe you are to young to remember this classic
show so let me share with you a few things about this
show.
As the show began, Jim Phelps would play a
tape that outlined some enemy plot crying out
for immediate attention. Only Mr. Phelps and
his organization, the Impossible Mission Force
(IMF), could remedy the desperate situation. Their
assignment was perilous in the extreme. Failure
would be disastrous, both for the world and for the
IMF. If a member of the IMF
were to be caught or killed,
“the Secretary will disavow any
knowledge of your actions.” The
taped voice gave Mr. Phelps
the opportunity to accept or to
reject the impossible assignment.
Then it concluded with those
famous words: “This tape will
self-destruct in five seconds.” Its
smoky demise led straightaway
into the show’s memorable
theme music.
About 2.6 billion people (or 38 percent of the world's
population) have heard the gospel but have not
accepted Christ yet.
At present, just over 50 percent of the world's
population (or 3.5 billion people) have not heard
the gospel and most of them do not have a realistic
opportunity to hear the gospel.
Of the earth’s almost seven billion people, only close
to one billion are believing Christians.
That means six billion people in more than 6,000
people groups are lost without Christ.
It is estimated
that 93,000
people pass into
eternity every day
without Jesus.
Mr. Phelps always accepted the
assignment, gathered his team of experts, and with
unequaled skill managed to defeat the forces of evil,
usually situated in some rogue nation. The impossible
mission turned out to be possible for the IMF, but just
by the skin of their teeth.
As men and women of God we also face an
impossible mission, one that is truly beyond our
potential.
Listen to the statistics:
As of April 2012, there were approximately 7 billion
people on Earth.
Approximately 750 million (or about 11 percent) of
those are willing to claim Jesus as personal Lord and
Savior.

There are 258 million lost people in the
United States and Canada.
There are 68 million adults in America
who haven’t been in anybody’s church
in the last six months. When you add
their children under age 18 who live with
them, that number exceeds more than
100 million people.
Here’s the statistic that should make
every one of us stand up and take note:
It is estimated that 93,000 people pass
into eternity every day without Jesus.
When you look at all of this it seems like an
impossible situation of reaching the world for Jesus.
But I am reminded of the words of Jesus, “With
men this is impossible, but with God all things are
possible” (Matthew 19:26).
Matthew 28:19, 20 says, “Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have
commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even
to the end of the age.” Amen
We have been given an assignment by our Lord to go
into all of the world and preach this gospel so that
people may have the opportunity to get saved. If we
take seriously our sending by Jesus to do his work,

our hearts should pound and our knees
should knock. How, is it that we are to
do what He has commissioned us to do?
Given our manifest human limitations, not
to mention our sinfulness, how can we do
the works of the divine Son of God? It
seems like an impossible mission. But the
Lord has equipped us with His Holy Spirit
to be able to carry out this impossible
mission and be successful. “You shall
receive power when the Holy Spirit
has come upon you; and you shall be
witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the
earth” (Acts 1:8).
We as Christian need to be reminded
that we do not go about our task alone,
or with merely human resources. The
presence and power of Christ are real
through the Holy Spirit’s ministry.
With the power of the Holy Spirit that
which seems impossible is possible. We
can reach this world for Jesus with His
help and His strength. Go in the power
of the Holy Spirit and accomplish the
impossible.
“With men this is
impossible, but
with God all things
are possible”
(Matthew 19:26).
South Carolina
SOM’s in Asia
September 8th was the official launch of our 13th and 14th Schools
of Ministry in Southeast Asia! The new SOM's will be located in
Bandung, Indonesia. One SOM will be conducted in the Indonesian language and will be
directed by Dr. Sehat Ginting. The second SOM will be conducted
in English and will be directed by Debra Lybrand our missionary
from the South Carolina Conference. Debra Lybrand has been
serving as a missionary with in
Bandung, Indonesia, for over two
years. Her gifting is in teaching,
training and administration. Debra Lybrand praying over students

We are very excited that Debra
is the Director of the new English
Language School of Ministry in
Many of the students that Debra will
be working with are young Collegeaged adults that are from the
country of Papua New Guinea. Bandung and West Java are home
to over 33 million Sundanese
people. Over 93% of these people Tim Salley praying for Dr. Sehat Ginting
are Muslim.

THANKSGIVING is a time when we consciously sit back and reflect upon the
good things in our lives and remember why we should be grateful for what we
have. True thanksgiving is praising God on a regular basis – instead of waiting
for the holiday season to show your gratitude. It’s thanking God for what you
have – this Thanksgiving and beyond.
Colossians 3:17
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of
the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
I thank our Lord for my Great Salvation, family and the privilege to serve the
South Carolina Conference of the IPHC with all of our churches.
2013 has been a great year of “Blessings” from our Lord upon all of the
Discipleship Ministries Events.
This year began with our Conference Talent in March. We are so blessed to
have such a great representation from many of our churches. The youth that
participate in Talent are gifted and love the Lord. They use their talents for
His glory and honor. Here is a list of those that won their competition on the
Conference Level & National Level.

Girls’ Ministry
SC Girls’ Ministries camp out at Ebenezer
PH Church in Columbia, SC. Miss
Deanna Tisdale ministered to our girls
all weekend. Our theme this year was
“God‘s Got Your Back.” Our scripture
was taken from Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon
that is formed against thee shall prosper;
and every tongue that shall rise against
thee in judgement thou shalt condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the
lord, and their righteousness is of me,
saith the Lord.”
We had eleven churches to attend and we
spent one day at Riverbanks Zoo. Thank
God for his presence and blessing on our
girls. Everyone had a wonderful weekend
of camping and fellowship.

The “Embrace the Amazing” conference of
2013 began with the greatly anticipated return
of Dr. Janice Sjostrand who took us into the
presence of Jehovah with her powerful gift
of song. As Friday night’s service concluded
we knew that we were in for an AMAZING
weekend with the Lord. Saturday morning’s
service proved that we were not wrong and
that change was in the atmosphere. The Word
was preached with such authority that the
power fell
and the
collective
body of
Christ was
shoved
full-face
with Spirit
of the
Living God.
Women did not need to search to find Him
and no voice was left to echo in vacant space
because the train of His robe had filled the
temple. The fire of God roared through the
congregation and women flooded the altars.
Our service was concluded, but women were
still worshiping and praying around the altars.
There was no doubt that lives had been

touched and
change had
begun in
their lives.
What we
had no clue
of, however,
was that
there
was more…an AMAZING amount of more…
to come out of the throne room of Heaven.
Ladies began to show up early. Many began
to share how they had been in cottage-type
prayer meetings all afternoon. All across
Kingston Plantation there was prayer going
up, intercession never ceased, and the flow
of glory kept being poured out. The SCIPHC
women transformed simple lodgings into
upper rooms the likes of the Book of Acts.
From one condo to the next, from one villa
to another, from one floor of the towers to
the other, women were praying and seeking
the face of God. To say the least, no one
was disappointed. By the time service began
Saturday night, minds were set and hearts
were on fire and the Heaven’s opened over the
house once more.
Pastor Connie Brothers made her SCIPHC
debut under an unparalleled anointing. A
prophetic word loosed the last hinges
holding the gates even slightly ajar, but it was
uninhibited praise that caused the glory of
God to burst forth in AMAZING force. With
Word and song, Pastor Brothers ministered to
us with the gift and call of God that is evidently
in abundance on her life. The whole room
became a sanctuary. No longer did Kingston
Plantation own a convention center, the
presence of God had undeniably transformed
it into Zion’s hill as the smoke rose and the
fire fell. Even as the dismissal was announced,
once again, there were women all over the
room who were still lost in the power of His
divine presence; many departed still under the
influence of the Holy Ghost, some needing
assistance.
English language fails and cannot properly
convey the sheer joy of the Lord that was
felt. Women from all over the conference
had trouble trying to describe how they were
impacted and changed by the anointing that
captured our place of praise. And, having
witnessed such raw power, we’re not quite
sure how the scriptures can be fulfilled that
say the Lord will do “exceedingly, abundantly
above all we can ask or think”. No one has a
clue how it can get any more AMAZING than it
has already been, but what we do know is that
we’re willing to gather again and again just to
find out.

and the final
service of our
weekend was
the crescendo
that none could
have imagined. Pastor Connie admonished us
to “hold on to our crowns” in spite of all that
comes. By the time the last amen was said and
those who had endured until the end found
that they had indeed been saved. Testimonies
of the services began pouring in. Some told
how they had been saved from the terrors of
demonic oppression. Others shared how the
Lord had saved and delivered them from fears,
from hurts and from pains of rejections. The
Lord had surely been AMAZING to His people.
There’s no way anyone could properly
articulate the way the Lord showed up. The

REV. & MRS. CHARLES (JEAN) READLING
Rev. Charles
Readling grew
up in Concord,
NC. His
father was a
Presbyterian
and his
mother was a
Baptist. Later
they moved
to SC and settled in the Macedonia section
of Berkeley County. It was there that Charles
met, fell in love with and married Jean Orvin.
They were married on May 30, 1954 and have
enjoyed over fifty-nine years of married life
together. It was during this time that Charles
was introduced to the Pentecostal Holiness
Church.
often. Charles also works for the Dial-Murray
Funeral Home in Moncks Corner. Charles
enjoys playing golf and also enjoys his present
work.
Charles stated that one of the highlights of
his ministerial career has been “that all of
the churches that I have pastored have been
good churches and that I can go back to them
anytime and have done so many times”.
Rev. Readling’s encouragement and advice to
younger ministers would be “pray, seek the
Lord daily, get the will of the Lord over your
messages and live a godly life”.
Charles was saved at the age of seventeen.
He accepted the call to preach ten years later
at the age of twenty-seven. Charles and Jean
were married students at Holmes Bible College
in Greenville, South Carolina. Later Charles
took courses at Southwestern Bible College in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
At the age of twelve,
Rev. Mrs. Dolly Stone
gave her heart to the
Lord and committed
her life to Him at the
Walterboro Church of
God in Walterboro,
South Carolina. Now
at the age of seventytwo, she has spent
over thirty years in
ministry in the International Pentecostal
Holiness Church.
She received her Mission Worker’s License
in 1984, was licensed in 1986 and later
ordained in the South Carolina Conference.
She superannuated in October of 2002.
Rev. Readling’s affiliation with the SC
Conference begin in January of 1963 when
he received his Mission Worker’s License.
Later that year, he received his Ministerial
License and was ordained in 1965. Charles
superannuated in 2000.
During his years of pastoral ministry, Charles
and Jean pastored the St. George PHC,
Bamberg PHC (twice), Pinedale PHC, Matthews
Tabernacle PHC and the Rehobeth PHC.
Presently, the Readlings are attending the Oak
Grove PHC in Macedonia where he serves
as Visitation Pastor and preaches there quite

She and her first husband, Mr.
Oscar Priester were married
for over twenty years when
he passed away. Later, Mrs.
Dolly married a Church of
God pastor, Rev. Lamar J.
Stone and they were married
for over 17 years when he
went home to be with the
Lord.
Mrs. Dolly has lived in
Walterboro, South Carolina
all of her life. And today, she
is still involved in Christian
service there. Her ministry
involvement today includes
visiting the Walterboro
Nursing Home and preaching
when the doors are opened
for her to share the Word of
God. She presently attends
the Walterboro Church of
God which is near to her
home.
When asked for advice to give
to younger ministers, both
males and females, she said,
“Serve the Lord and not man.
Go to God’s Word to get your
sermons and don’t get them
off the internet. And most of
all, pray.”
Rev. Mrs. Stone said her
favorite pasttimes and
hobbies would include
“witnessing for the Lord and
going to church”. One of
her greatest joys is looking
forward to attending the
annual Camp Meeting
services at Lake City and
seeing so many of her
Christian brothers and sisters.

OF REMEMBRANCE”
We have set the “Deadline For
The 2nd Wall Of Remembrance”
for December 31, 2013. We
plan to unveil the “2nd Wall Of
Remembrance” during our 2014
Camp Meeting in Lake City. If you
have not yet placed the name of a
loved one to go on this wall, the time
is drawing near. It is our desire for
churches and for families to honor
and recognize family members,
present or former pastors or anyone
that has had a spiritual impact on
their lives.
For our “2nd Wall”, the cost is still
the same, only $ 250.00 per tile.
This amount can be paid in two
installments of $ 125.00 each, if
desired. You may obtain a copy of
the “Wall of Remembrance” brochure

At the present time, there are no
plans to erect another “Wall Of
Remembrance” so we urge you to be

Orangeburg District
The Orangeburg District held its third
annual Back to School Bash on August 11,
2013 at Living Wells Celebration Center
in Orangeburg, South Carolina. There
were over 200 in attendance. Through
the sponsorship of the churches in the
Orangeburg District, we were able to
make over 200 bags of schools supplies to
help send our children back to school with
the tools they would need.
We celebrated the return to school by
having “The Compound” join us for the
third year to present the message of
Christ in Christian Rap. Rev. Brandon
Hutson and the praise team from Jones
Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church
in Walterboro, South Carolina led us in
praise and worship. Rev. Bryan Martin,
Youth Pastor for St. Paul Pentecostal
Holiness Church, brought forth a great
message!
We were able to give away numerous
prizes in the form of gift cards, cash,
footballs, book bags, and binders. Again, the Orangeburg churches supported the Back to
School Bash with these prizes. Pressley Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cross, South
Carolina, provided the pizza, chips, and drinks for all to enjoy.
We had a blast and look forward to
next year. In March, we will be holding
our Pre-Talent Service where our young
people will be invited to present their
gifts and talents. Three volunteers will
provide feedback for those going to
Junior and Teen Talent on March 21-22,
2013 in Lake City, South Carolina.
God is working in and through our young
people. These events were designed to
show our young people that we love and
support them. It is our desire to see the
power of the Holy Spirit explode in their lives. Jesus is THE only answer. We are working to point
every child to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ! We are expecting a great harvest as we have
deposited the seed in fertile ground.

Rev. H. Larry Jones Scholarship Fund
The Rev. H. Larry Jones Scholarship fund was
started in 2011 by Rev. Brandon Hutson. The
scholarship was designed to assist the children
and youth in the Orangeburg District to
attend events sponsored by the International
Pentecostal Holiness Church. Just this year,
nine young people received full or partial
scholarships that assisted in sending them to
Youth Camp at Camp Robinson and/or Youth
Quest in Dallas, Texas.
One of our recipients this year was Kelsey
Argoe from St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness
Church in Swansea, South Carolina. She
attended Teen Week of camp, and this was
her first camp experience. During the week
of camp, Deans, Directors, and Counselors
select one young lady and one young man to
receive the “Legacy Award”. The qualities of
the recipients receiving this award are Being
an Example of Christ, Doing Deed of Kindness,
Good Manners, and Displaying Appreciation.
Kelsey was selected the female recipient of this
prestigious award for 2013 Teen Week. We are
very proud of her and know that God has great
things in store for her and her generation!
The Orangeburg District is excited to pour
into the lives of our young people. This
scholarship is funded 100% by the churches
in the Orangeburg District. If your district is
