February 21, 2016 Parish Bulletin Issue 6 Volume XLVIII ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH 2025 Stuart Avenue Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808-3979 (225) 343-6657 Fax (225) 344-6847 Website: www.aloysius.org Second Sunday of Lent — WE ARE TO BE TRANSFORMED Today's showing forth of God's glory is filled with a light that astonishes and reveals. Jesus transfigured on Mount Tabor energizes even the sleepy apostles, who see but cannot get hold of it. They can be forgiven for not apprehending the full meaning of this extraordinary vision of a transfigured Jesus with Elijah and Moses. The whole of the Law and prophets is summed up here on this mountain. The transfiguration on Mount Tabor is handed over to us this Sunday. As Paul reminds us, it is we who are to be transformed. The light and life of the Resurrection are set forth here so we do not lose heart and fall entirely asleep. This Sunday looks to Easter. It looks to transformation. It asks us to lift up our heads and acknowledge the risen Lord as our light and our salvation. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. “In the period of Lent, the Church, in the name of God, renews the call to conversion. It is the call to change one’s life. Conversion is not a matter of a moment or a year, it is a commitment that lasts a lifetime. Who among us can be assumed not to be a sinner? No one.” Pope Francis All are Invited to participate in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament—Begins at 9:00 a.m. March 4 until 8:00 a.m. March 5. Priests of the Diocese will be available for confession during that time. Mass for All Family Members with Special Needs—8:00 a.m.—March 5. He had no idea how God would fulfill his promises but he had confidence that God would lead the way. Though he stumbled in the dark, the stars overhead guided him on his way. Christians are not left to stumble along through life without a sense of direction and a promise of arrival. We have the companionship and counsel of the heroes of our faith like Paul to show the way. They make straight the path through the darkest night. The transfiguration marked a turning point in the public ministry of Jesus. He had suffered the temptations of Satan, the doubts of John the Baptizer, and the anger of critics. But on the mountaintop he was bathed in the light of God’s affirmation of his message and mission. In a world such as ours there seem to be more and more times when life closes in on us, limiting our freedom and darkening our path. Walking through almost any day we find ourselves exposed to all manner of conflicts and threats. Simply living has become a dangerous matter. We invariably have to come down from our mountain-top experiences. The dark valley threatens our faith and causes us to doubt the loving nature and redemptive purposes of God. We endure the darkness because we have known the light. We trust in the ultimate triumph of God’s loving nature and purpose. The first rays of dawn are a promise that the sun will overcome the darkness. When we walk toward the light, the shadow of our burdens and failures al- ways falls behind us. Have a great week! Love and prayers, Father Randy WITNESS THE MYSTERY OF GOD’S MERCY Jesus calls us all to follow this path: “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful” (Luke 6:36). I now ask of you one thing. In silence, let’s all think…everyone think of a person with whom we are annoyed, with whom we are angry, someone we do not like. Let us think of that person and in silence, at this moment, let us pray for this person and let us become merciful with this person. Pope Francis Idea to consider on our journey to becoming more merciful: Be generous enough to allow someone to help you; people need to feel needed. • If you didn’t mean to be a pain in the neck to someone, admit you were and ask the person to forgive you. • February 21, 2016 2 Parish Office: 343-6657 Fr. The First Eucharist Candidate and two parents will be seated in a reserved section and the guests will be seated in pews and chairs behind the sections reserved for the candidates. Any guests beyond the four are welcome, but have no guarantee that seating will be available. However, they may stand in the back of Church during mass. Please note that there will be No Reception; however, the priest will recognize and announce to the congregation that your child is celebrating the sacrament at this time.
