Second Sunday of Lent — WE ARE TO BE TRANSFORMED
Today's showing forth of God's glory is filled with a light that astonishes and reveals. Jesus transfigured on Mount Tabor energizes even the sleepy apostles, who see but cannot
get hold of it. They can be forgiven for not apprehending the full meaning of this extraordinary vision of a transfigured Jesus with Elijah and Moses. The whole of the Law and
prophets is summed up here on this mountain.
The transfiguration on Mount Tabor is handed over to us this Sunday. As Paul reminds
us, it is we who are to be transformed. The light and life of the Resurrection are set forth
here so we do not lose heart and fall entirely asleep. This Sunday looks to Easter. It looks
to transformation. It asks us to lift up our heads and acknowledge the risen Lord as our
light and our salvation. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
“In the period of Lent, the Church, in the name of God, renews the call to conversion. It is the call to change one’s life.
Conversion is not a matter of a moment or a year, it is a commitment that lasts a lifetime. Who among us can be assumed not to be a sinner? No one.” Pope Francis

Our Challenge
Dear friends,
Abraham was called out of the darkness of idolatry to
establish a new people of faith. He had no idea how God would fulfill his
promises but he had confidence that God would lead the way. Though
he stumbled in the dark, the stars overhead guided him on his way.
Christians are not left to stumble along through life without a sense of
direction and a promise of arrival. We have the companionship and
counsel of the heroes of our faith like Paul to show the way. They make
straight the path through the darkest night. The transfiguration marked a
turning point in the public ministry of Jesus. He had suffered the temptations of Satan, the doubts of John the Baptizer, and the anger of critics.
But on the mountaintop he was bathed in the light of God’s affirmation
of his message and mission. In a world such as ours there seem to be
more and more times when life closes in on us, limiting our freedom and
darkening our path. Walking through almost any day we find ourselves
exposed to all manner of conflicts and threats. Simply living has become a dangerous matter. We invariably have to come down from our
mountain-top experiences. The dark valley threatens our faith and causes us to doubt the loving nature and redemptive purposes of God. We
endure the darkness because we have known the light. We trust in the
ultimate triumph of God’s loving nature and purpose. The first rays of
dawn are a promise that the sun will overcome the darkness. When we
walk toward the light, the shadow of our burdens and failures al-
ways falls behind us.
Have a great week!
Love and prayers,
Father Randy
WITNESS THE MYSTERY OF GOD’S MERCY
Jesus calls us all to follow this path: “Be merciful, even as your Father is
merciful” (Luke 6:36). I now ask of you one thing. In silence, let’s all
think…everyone think of a person with whom we are annoyed, with
whom we are angry, someone we do not like. Let us think of that person
and in silence, at this moment, let us pray for this person and let us become merciful with this person. Pope Francis
Idea to consider on our journey to becoming more
merciful:
Be generous enough to allow someone to help
you; people need to feel needed.
• If you didn’t mean to be a pain in the neck to
someone, admit you were and ask the person to
forgive you.

First Eucharist will be celebrated at one mass on Sunday. April 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Due to the

Eucharist Candidate, two for the parents or (other adults) sitting with the candidate and four spots
for family guests. The First Eucharist Candidate and two parents will be seated in a reserved section and
the guests will be seated in pews and chairs behind the sections reserved for the candidates. Any guests
beyond the four are welcome, but have no guarantee that seating will be available. However, they may
stand in the back of Church during mass.
In the event that these necessary seating limitations greatly hinder your family’s participation, an optional
way to celebrate the sacrament is being offered this year. Your family may choose to have your
candidate receive First Eucharist at the 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. masses being celebrated the week-end of
April 17th in lieu of the class celebration. Please note that there will be No Reception; however, the priest
will recognize and announce to the congregation that your child is celebrating the sacrament at this time. In
order to take part in this type of celebration, you must notify me by no later than Monday, April 11, 2016 so
that the celebrant may be made aware of the special circumstances.

St. Aloysius Leadership Night – January 19, 2016
Recap of Pastoral Council Meeting
Administration Commission
The Commission continued planning for celebrating the Year of Mercy and the 24 Hours for the Lord. Several ideas
will be presented to the Pastoral Council (commitment cards, offering intentions at mass, having musical assistance
during Morning Prayer). Ministry linking and assessments were discussed. Reports were given on revenue earned
from the Parish Fair and Auction, a new Facilities chair, and increased attendance at mass. There will be an additional option for direct deposit to the Building Fund on the 15th of each month. Upcoming events include the promotional weekend for Stewardship of Offering on January 30 -31, the golf tournament on March 14, and the 2016 Parish
Fair beginning October 7.
Community Life Commission
The Ambassadors Ministry was discussed – there will be restructuring of this ministry to “breathe new life” into it. The
Mardi Gras parade event is upcoming on Friday, February 5. There are still openings on the St. Aloysius float (cost is
$100 per person, which includes throws and costume). The Viewing Party has been cancelled for this year due to
construction of the Child Care Center. Upcoming events include a Lenten event for the Seniors and the Men’s Club
LSU Night and crawfish boil.
Education Commission
The Commission members worked on plans for the speaker series, specifically to develop ways to include the entire
parish. The PSR luncheon will be on February 21. The speaker will be Becky Eldridge on the topic of sharing faith
with your child and child care will be provided. A PSR parent committee is being formed for guidance and future planning of events. Ideas for the Year of Mercy activities were discussed, including reaching out to the Cub Scouts, Daisy
Scouts, PSR, Child Care Center and the school for participation.
Social Responsibility Commission
The Commission is moving forward with the linking reports, with the completion of the formal reports in January and
September. Further direction on the assessment process is anticipated. The St. Vincent de Paul Truck Drive will be
held on Saturday, March 19 – a sub-committee will be created to plan and collaborate with the Community Life
Commission. Plans for the 24 Hours for the Lord were discussed, as was the Social Responsibility component of the
upcoming Capital Campaign.
Spiritual Growth Commission
Linking reports for the Momnipotent and Engaged Couples ministries, the Creighton Retreat and the Acts Retreat
were discussed. Ideas and activities for the 24 Hours for the Lord were further developed. Fr. Whitney Miller will
present the Journey with Joy Through the Liturgical Year on Tuesday, February 16, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A light
supper will be provided.
Worship Commission
There will be 4 Commission members rotating off this year; it is anticipated that 3 replacements will be needed. The
upcoming All Ministry Leaders Retreat (January 26, 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.) was discussed. Anyone planning to participate
should RSVP to Joanne Roberts. A suggestion has been received to add rocking chairs and literature for young families to the Cry Room. This will be brought to the Pastoral Council. Other discussions centered on the 24 Hours for
the Lord and the Triduum services. Palm Sunday is March 20 and Easter is March 27.
Pastoral Council
The meeting opened with a centering prayer. Leadership Night was discussed and follow up set for issues presented
at Commission meetings. Father Paul Yi announced that Fr. Randy will be back at the Parish for the weekend of
January 30 – 31 and full-time thereafter. Plans for the Year of Mercy, and specifically, the 24 Hours for the Lord were
discussed. Council members were reminded of upcoming Council activities. The meeting was closed with a prayer by
Fr. Paul.
