Matthew 5:4 Words can never express our grateful thanks for the kindness you extended to our family this past month. The outpouring of love and friendship during this difficult time has been overwhelming. Your support, kind words, and prayers helped make a very sorrowful time a little easier to bear. Than. Your acts of kindness and helping hands made Fr. Than’s final celebration so wonderful. Thank you so much for standing beside us to honor Fr. Than’s beautiful life. We know that he is in Heaven smiling down upon all of us. A family friend compared Fr. Than’s role as Pastor with that of a company executive. Unlike a typical corporate executive, Fr. Than’s success is not measured by sales or profits. His success is measured by the love of those he served, and you have given him immeasurable wealth. Tuan & Allison Pham on behalf of Fr. ALOYSIUS COMMUNITY February March 7-13, 2015 MASS SCHEDULE I want to thank you all for hosting my ordination. Fr. Than Vu was so wonderful in allowing me to have my ordination at St. Aloysius. I know he Saturday was with us that day. It was truly a blessed experience for me. St. Aloysius Parish has played an important part in the nurturing of my vocation. As a religion teacher at Catholic High School, I came to Baton Rouge welcomed by so many from St. Aloysius. I know I will pass God's love onto others following the example you have shown me. Even though I did not grow up in Baton Rouge, I regularly wear LSU gear. I am often asked where I am from and I proudly reply “Baton Rouge!” Please continue to support the call to vocations. If you see someone you think would make a good priest or religious, please let them know what you see and encourage them to think about answering the call. It was only through the encouragement of others, including Bishop Muench, that I got the courage to take those first steps. I am still in awe the blessings it is brought. May we all follow the example of St. Francis who wrote: “Hold back nothing of yourselves for yourselves, that He who gives Himself totally to you may receive you totally”. God Bless, Fr. Christopher Iwancio OFM Cap. Father Michael Allello will conduct the Lenten reflections on March 9 – 11. The topic will be “Holiness . . .A Lifetime Journey”. A one night mission is planned for November 13th, to be conducted by Matthew Kelly. The ACTS retreat for men is scheduled for August 27 – 30 and for women, September 24 – 27. A meeting is planned on February 24th for all parishioners interested in participating in a small faith group during Lent. Father Sanjay and Deacon Chauvin have begun an Adult Formation class for confirmation – 8 candidates are participating. There is a need for group leaders and sponsors for RCIA. Worship Commission Linking reports were given and discussed. A recap was given on the recent Liturgical Ministers Retreat, and planning began for next year. The Commission was given an update on the proposed Liturgy Scheduler Pro software. The Parish will be purchasing the program, Wanda Townsend has agreed to do the necessary data entry, and the goal is to have it implemented for the June through September scheduling of Mass Coordinators, Eucharistic Ministers, Readers, and Altar Servers. Seven parishioners will be invited to join the Commission for next year. Status reports were given on the church speaker system and the A/C and Heating systems. An organ recital will be hosted by St. Aloysius on Monday, February 23rd at 8:00 a.m. (for 3rd – 5th grade students) and 7:00 p.m. for the general public. The guest artist is a student in residence at St. Louis Cathedral and a student of the Paris Conservatoire. There was discussion on how to best promote the recital for a good attendance. Pastoral Council The meeting opened with a prayer, followed by a presentation by Rachel DiResto on the finalized Strategic Plan. Father Sanjay was welcomed back from his trip home to India. The Council discussed issues raised during Leadership Night – where to park the St. Vincent de Paul truck on March 28th for the best visibility and ease of drop-offs, additional discussion on replacing the church audio system and the installation of the Liturgy Scheduler Pro software, discussion of memorials for Father Than, and concerns about bridging the gap of parish participation for families participating in PSR. The next Leadership Night is March 17, 2015. The Council closed its meeting with a prayer by Fr. Sanjay. Administration Commission Commission members reviewed and updated the Strategic Plan. An update was given on the ongoing issues with the sound system in the church. A contract has been entered into with TSG to replace the entire system. The old system may be salvaged for use in another facility on the church campus. Phase 2 of the playground project will begin soon. The St. Aloysius Golf Tournament will be held on March 16th at the University Club. It was reported that both offertory and school development collections are down as compared to previous years. Donations were received from 72% of parishioners in 2014. Community Life Commission Work continues on updating the Strategic Plan. One new member for this commission is needed – potential candidates will be invited to the next Leadership Night. Upcoming events include the Southdowns Parade and Viewing Party on February 13th, a social for the Singles Ministry on March 11th at Juban’s Restaurant, a Lenten Morning of Reflection entitled “Secrets of the Saints” for the Senior Ministry on March 12th (led by Matthew Bonk from Redemptorist High School), and a Welcoming Luncheon for new parishioners on March 15th after 11:00 a.m. mass. Education Commission The Commission reviewed and updated their list of parishioners being considered for membership on the Commission. The final changes to the Strategic Plan were made and will be submitted. Co-chairs and volunteers are still needed for Vacation Bible School. The Youth Group has a lot of momentum heading into Spring, with many activities planned. On February 21st, St. Aloysius will be hosting the ordination of Brother Chris Iwancio. The Child Care Center Fish Fry will be Friday, March 13th. Social Responsibility Commission The Strategic Plan was reviewed, and one minor change was made. The next Kairos Retreat is March 12 – 15. Volunteers are needed in all areas – cooking, prayer chain, and support. Prayer shawls and caps are available for anyone who needs one. The St. Vincent de Paul Ministry has arranged for a truck to be available in the parking lot on Saturday, March 28th to receive donations of all kinds from the parish - volunteers are needed to assist with this activity. The next trip to the Cantera Mission in Nicaragua will be May 24 – 31st. During the weekend of March 7-8, face-to-face recruitment of parishioners who might be interested in making the trip will occur after all masses. On February 26th, 6:30 until 9:00 p.m., Alvin Raetsch and Amy Pizzolatto will host “Theology on Tap” at BJ’s Restaurant, and will discuss the Cantera Mission.
