BUGLE THE Volume 13 Issue 6 June 2016 Message from the Executive Director Hello Everyone, What is going to happen when Yankee Candle runs out of scents to copy? Well, it has already happened. Don’t ask me why but I visited the Yankee Candle website today and they now have a scent called Wedding Day. I remember getting married but I forget what it smelled like. I’m remembering really hard but I just can’t conjure up my special smell. I remember how beautiful my wife-to-be looked as she walked down the aisle. I remember how nervous I was because the priest made us memorize and recite our entire vows. I remember my cummerbund popping off as I left the alter. I remember watching the video of our ceremony (shot from the balcony of the church) and not recognizing myself because my bald spot made me look like I was wearing a yarmulke. Yankee candle has really put me in a spot here. My anniversary is coming up and this might just do the trick. Unless this thing smells like a can of BOARD OF DIRECTORS Jessica Michie Prieto President [email protected] James O’Rourke Vice President Ryan Towle Treasurer Carolyn McKean Secretary Stephen Burritt Louise Cyr tuna, as far as I am concerned, this must be what our wedding day smelled like. On the other hand, maybe I should buy a candle that smells like the flowers we had at our wedding. If I could remember what those were I would consider that as an option. I know my wife will remember the smell of our wedding flowers so if, when I give her the Wedding Day candle, she comments on how it doesn’t smell like the flowers we had at our wedding, I’ll hand her the perfect match to the Wedding Day scent. Of course I am referring to Yankee Candle’s newest scent, Forgiveness. Marc McMurphy Executive Director Cathy Dias Phillip Emma Carol Goodenough Rev. Page 5 The Bugle Tuesday Movies in June The Lady in the Van Tuesday, June 7th at 1:00 PM Rated PG-13 The Lady in the Van tells the true story of Alan Bennett’s strained friendship with Miss Mary Shepherd, an eccentric homeless woman whom Bennett befriended in the 1970s before allowing her temporarily to park her Bedford van in the driveway of his Camden home. She stayed there for 15 years. As the story develops Bennett learns that Miss Shepherd is really Margaret Fairchild (died 1989), a former gifted pupil of the pianist Alfred Cortot. She had played Chopin in a promenade concert, tried to become a nun, was committed to an institution by her brother, escaped, had an accident when her van was hit by a motorcyclist for which she believed herself to blame, and thereafter lived in fear of arrest. I’ll See You in My Dreams Tuesday, June 14th at 1:00 PM Rated PG-13 In this vibrant, funny, and heartfelt film, a widow and former songstress discovers that life can begin anew at any age. With the support of three loyal girlfriends (June Squibb, Rhea Perlman, and Mary Kay Place), Carol (Blythe Danner) decides to embrace the world, embarking on an unlikely friendship with her pool maintenance man (Martin Starr), pursuing a new love interest (Sam Elliott), and reconnecting with her daughter (Malin Akerman). Jimmy’s Hall Tuesday, June 21st at 1:00 PM Rated PG-13 1932. Jimmy Gralton is back home in the Irish countryside after ten years of forced exile in the USA. His widowed mother Alice is happy, Jimmy’s friends are happy, all the young people who enjoy dancing and singing are happy. Which is not the case of Father Sheridan, the local priest, nor of the village squire, nor of Dennis O’Keefe, the chief of the fascists. The reason is simple: Jimmy is a socialist activist. So when the “intruder” reopens the village hall, thus enabling the villagers to gather to sing, dance, paint, study or box, they take a dim view of the whole thing. People who think and unite are difficult to manipulate, aren’t they? From that moment on they will use every means possible to get rid of Jimmy and his “dangerous” hall. Page 8 April 2016 State of Play Tuesday, June 28th at 1:00 PM Rated PG-13 When his mistress is found dead, Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck) tries desperately to protect his name and career. As journalists Cal (Russell Crowe) and Della (Rachel McAdams) investigate further, they uncover an intricate web of lies that stretches to the highest levels of power. Based on the critically acclaimed BBC miniseries, this intriguing political thriller co-stars Helen Mirren, Robin Wright Penn and Jason Bateman. Bragging Rights forever. A Fun day with friends.
