OUR MISSION: TANKER UPDATE: To detect, prevent and raise awareness on kidney ailments and to provide quality, affordable treatment to underprivileged people We have completed 21 years of service for the underprivileged with kidney ailments. With your help, we have meaningfully contributed to healthcare, research, training and advocacy connected to kidney disease. From June 1993 till March this year, TANKER has provided 136,462 free and subsidized dialysis for 783 patients. We have also given financial support of Rs. 94.30 Lakhs to 1847 patients as one-time contributions ranging from Rs. 5,000/- to Rs. 50,000/- for transplantation, medication, investigation and fistula surgery costs. ● TANKER (an acronym for Tamilnad Kidney Research) Foundation is a non-profit registered trust, founded on 30th June 1993 by Dr. Georgi Abraham Prof of Medicine and Consultant Nephrologist and likeminded people to reach out to under-privileged patients with kidney disease. ● TANKER aims to provide health care and financial assistance to those who have kidney problems and do not have the wherewithal to seek medical attention. ● TANKER cares for the underprivileged, who suffer kidney problems of any kind, regardless of caste, creed, sex or religion. ● TANKER along with our goodwill ambassador actor Suriya intends to set up subsidized dialysis units in other parts of Tamil Nadu. Our four subsidized dialysis units have a total of 35 Dialysis Stations. Our four units are in Kilpauk (Chennai), Ambattur Rotary Hospital (Chennai), TVS Hospital, Chokkikulam (Madurai) and RVS Hospital, Sulur, Coimbatore. We do 1,567 dialyses per month, of which 1,466 are free of cost with valuable help from the Chief Ministers Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) and other donors. At present, we help 180 patients in our units. We also have dialysis facilities at PIMS, Pondicherry and hope to set up units in Tirupur and Salem. In November 2009, we started our HIV Dialysis Unit at Kilpauk providing dialysis to underprivileged HIV patients. This is the first of its kind in India. Along with helping our patients, spreading the word about kidney disease is equally important to TANKER. We have reached out to more than 1 lakh people with the 576 Awareness Programmes. These programmes are organized at schools, colleges, law enforcement offices and public forums. We have also screened 6,000 individuals for early detection of kidney disease through our 68 screening camps. As the field of research in kidney diseases requires more attention and guidance in India, TANKER also gives awards for research in Nephrology and Service to the tune of Rs. 5 lakhs every year. ● TANKER with Actor Suriya's help aims to take kidney disease awareness programmes to schools and colleges all over Tamil Nadu.
