Dear Friends,
It is hard to believe that five years have passed since the incredible redevelopment at Hampton Beach was completed. Everything still looks brand
new to us, especially all the artistic touches you will find everywhere.
All the credit for the new infrastructure goes to the State of New Hampshire
legislature for funding the 14.5 million dollar renovation of Hampton Beach
which includes the Sea Shell Stage, new family friendly bath houses, shade
areas, and new hard-to-miss street signs among other improvements. Not to
mention a wealth of art throughout the beach thanks to the New Hampshire
Percent for Art program (See Pages 36 and 37 for more information). As you
may know Hampton Beach is one of 82 New Hampshire State Parks and is
maintained by the N.H. Division of Parks and Recreation, which keeps the
beach clean and safe with a world-class cadre of Life Guards.
You may also know that the Hampton Beach Village District, also known
as The Precinct, and its taxpayers are responsible for funding the Free
Nightly Concerts, Weekly and Holiday Fireworks, The Master Sand Sculpting Competition, the Children’s Festival, Free outdoor Monday night movies
and many other activities. (Please see page 17 for more on The Precinct)
This year the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to be presenting the 27th Annual Seafood Festival September 9-11. As always, this is the
weekend after Labor Day and one of the largest street fairs in New England.
We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the town of Hampton for
providing superior security and other essential services to Hampton Beach.
The Information Center is right at the corner of “F” street where we are
pleased to assist you in any way to
make your stay at Hampton Beach a
pleasant one.
Please visit us for information on
lodgings, restaurants, and event
schedules, etc. We also have NH Lottery tickets and an ATM machine for
your convenience.

Amazing Activities
Hampton Beach sits at the crossroads of New
England. Between sea and mountains, Boston
and Portland, it is at the heart of a unique region
filled with amusements, history, and scenery. In
short, Hampton Beach offers the best vacation values and countless opportunities you will find anywhere, for any budget, bar none.
Not convinced? Consider what you’ll find:
There’s more than just the beach to
visit. The region is filled with activities to pursue, from whale watching
and deep sea fishing to hiking, biking,
or exploring parks and historic sites.
Or just settle down for a lazy summer
day exploring the amusements available right along Hampton Beach.
Tax-Free Shopping
You read that right. There is no sales tax in
New Hampshire. This means so much more for
your money, and all along Hampton Beach there
are stores galore, filled with fashions, jewelry, and
unique gift items that are locally made.
Great Dining
Do you want surf, or turf? Or perhaps both?
Whether you want take out service, fast food, or
an elegant dining experience with that special
someone, there is a place set for you at Hampton Beach. The seafood is freshly caught every
day, and prepared by the finest chefs in the region who are working hard to hone their skills to
please you. The variety of choices is hard to beat,
from Italian to Chinese, pizza to chowder, ice
cream to fried dough, and some specialties that
are only available here for you to discover. Dig
in, the eating here is fine to dine!
Superior Lodging
With two centuries of experience catering to the needs of summer visitors,
your hosts at Hampton Beach have generations of experience catering to what
every guest wants. Of course, you will
find all the modern amenities available
anywhere you stay, whether it is a hotel,
a motel, or cottage. The real question is,
do you want a luxurious seaside view,
someplace quiet, or an outdoor camping
experience? All these options and more
are available at Hampton Beach.

Believe it or

Ten Fun Facts About Hampton Beach
Fact #1: Hampton Beach has
shrunk? The channel into Hampton
Harbor has moved northward between
1650 and 1930. You can find proof of
this by crossing the Hampton Harbor
Bridge to visit the smallest state park
on the Seacoast, on Woodstock Street,
where Bound Rock, a boulder that was
once in the middle of the channel was
rediscovered in 1937.
Fact #2: “Atlantis” was at Hampton Beach? As the fine sands shifted over the centuries, a rocky section
of the on the south side of the harbor
entrance became dry land known as
“White Rock Island” around 1882. Up
to 70 cottages crowded the island by
1910, but by 1930, a series of major
storms had washed the island away.
Fact #3: Electric lights were a top
attraction? When Hampton Beach
became a destination over a century
ago, light bulbs were high tech because
no one had such exotic things at home!
Fact #4: Hampton Beach had its
own airport? Early airplanes were
routinely flown off the sands before a
more permanent airfield was built off
High Street. Like many small airfields, it relocated after World War 2.
Fact #5: Vikings vacationed
at Hampton Beach? True or not,
one resident claimed he found the
1,000-year-old grave of Thorvald, a Viking from Norse Sagas who was killed
by partying natives. While the story
is suspect, the stone still exists on the
grounds of the Tuck Museum for visitors to ponder.
Fact #6: Know your ABC’s? Cross
streets are lettered from A to Q along
the length of Hampton Beach, but
there is no “E” street. If there were,
it would go through the middle of the
Hampton Beach Casino.
Fact #7: It’s a sentry tower? The
tall grey tower on Great Boar’s Head
was a base end station, one of several
that helped aim coastal defense artillery during World War 2. Now it’s a
private home.
Fact #8: Got Oxen? The salt marshes
behind Hampton Beach were set aside
in 1641 as the “Great Ox Common” from
that time “to the world’s end.” You won’t
ever see any cattle grazing there though.
Fact #9: Pirates you say? The last
pirates to cruise the coast off Hampton
Beach were the Confederate Captain
Read and two crewmen in 1863 when
they were trying to escape from Boston
to Canada. Local hospitality helped
foil their getaway.
Fact #10: There’s more? As one
of the oldest vacation destinations in
New England, Hampton Beach always
has something for everyone to enjoy
any summer season!

Tide Data provided by USHarbors.com
If you are visiting Hampton for a day
at the beach or an extended excursion on
the water, it pays to know a little about
how to read the predictions listed in our
monthly tide tables on the following pages.
The first step is to locate the date you
are visiting Hampton Beach; this is listed in the light blue “date” column on the
left side of each table. To help break up
the table, Sundays and holidays are left
in white. To help you take advantage of
entertainment at Hampton Beach, dates
with fireworks are listed in red type.
On average, there are two high tides a
day, once in the morning (AM) and once
in the evening (PM). The feet (FT) columns indicate how high a high tide will
rise from the typical low-tide average. At
Hampton Beach, this is a range of seven
to twelve feet. Low tides follow a similar
pattern, occurring about six hours after
each high tide, and sometimes going out
further than average. This is indicated
with negative numbers.
Tides advance every forty to fifty minutes each day. So a low tide at 6:00 am
in morning will be followed by a low tide
at around 6:40 the next morning. As
a result, there may only be three tides
forecast on a date, rather than four. Just
as importantly, tides are slightly different up and down the coast because of
factors such as rivers, harbors, or geography.
Finally, the yellow “SUN” columns on
the right side of the tables notes the sun
RISE and sun SET for those wishing to
make the most of their daytime activities. A blue line over these hours indicates when you may expect a full moon
to be out in the evening. A blue line under the hours indicates when there is a
new moon (no moon) in the sky.
Tide data is provided courtesy of

Don’t Miss The Hampton Beach Seafood Festival Sept 9-11
Hampton Harbor is one of the oldest ports of
call in New Hampshire. Led by Rev. Stephen
Bachiler, the original settlers established the
town of Hampton in 1638 some two miles inland as you follow the harbor through the salt
marshes and up the meandering Taylor River.
The harbor mouth has moved further north
since that ancient date, because the fine sands
of Hampton Beach have shifted over the centuries. But you can still see where it was,
thanks to the rediscovery of Bound Rock in
1937. This milestone now lies at the bottom
of a well off Woodstock Street in Hampton
as part of one of the smallest parks you will
find anywhere! It still serves as a boundary
marker between Hampton and Seabrook.
Dozens of calm winding rivers and creeks
flow into Hampton Harbor. Kayak rentals
provide an opportunity to explore this natural
side of the New Hampshire seacoast. Egrets,
herons, killdeer, Canadian geese, turkeys and
many other species of birds and animals call
the wilds of the salt marshes home.
Some channels are ramrod straight. These
are old canals cut by farmers to help drain
the land and provide access to the salt marsh
hay that was once vital for feeding livestock.
The largest canal on the seacoast though is
Nudd’s Canal. Dredged in 1823, this half
mile channel cut over two miles of travel time off the twists of the Taylor River to
Hampton’s old town landing.
Hampton Harbor remains a busy port for
visitors to launch their boats, or local fishermen bringing in their catch. For those seeking an adventure on the high seas, charter
fishing boats, whale watches, island cruises
and much more are all available to enjoy.
H ampton ’ s B eautiful B eaches
Hampton Beach State Park covers
over four miles of the New Hampshire
Seacoast. Within this stretch of Atlantic coastline you will find three unique
beaches to explore. Each one is slightly
different, and all offer something for
everyone to enjoy.
North
Beach
Located between High Street
and a rocky point called Great
Boar’s Head, North Beach is the
longest section of the beaches.
Hidden behind a high concrete
surf barrier, it almost vanishes at
high tide and becomes a fine sandy
plain at low tide. This is the place
to come to catch some tasty waves
if you want to surf, or try surf fishing. Or take a walk and watch the
action from the heights of the wall.
