Your Patuxent 1-2-3 Fall Lawn Care Checklist
Record-setting heat has taken a toll beyond the usual on our lawns this summer. What were lovely lush turf displays
in April and May are now brown-spotted, crabgrass-ridden disaster areas. Fall is the perfect time to repair, renovate,
and re-seed lawns in our area.

First Steps –
Repair summer damage – September
• Apply Bonide Weed Beater Ultra if broadleaf weeds are a serious problem in your lawn
• Use Greenview starter fertilizer for new grass areas, and along with heavy over seeding
• Fertilize with Greenview Fairway Fall Lawn Fertilizer
• Add Lime at the rate of one bag per 5,000 square feet of lawn
(a soil test may be appropriate to determine the need for lime)

Wait 3 - 4 weeks!
Get that new grass growing – October
De-thatch and aerate your lawn
• Normally raking out dead grass with a hard garden rake is sufficient
• This year a commercial machine is probably a good idea
• Rent one at Home Stores or DIY Rental Businesses

Water – Water – Water!
Protect your investment
by taking the time now
• Water daily - early in the morning is best
• Six weeks of either daily watering or moderate
rainfall is recommended after seeding
Apply Leaf Gro to increase organic soil content
• On bare spots, rake in about 3 bags per 100 square feet
• Use a garden rake to loosen soil and prepare the soil in lawn
for overseeding
• Apply LeafGro over lawn about ¼” deep, rake into soil
Select a high-quality fescue blend grass seed Follow instructions on the package
• Good – Cover with straw
• Better - Apply Greenview Grass Seed Accelerator as directed to
hold moisture and protect seed
Winterize
• In late October or early November use
Greenview Fairway Fall Lawn Fertilizer
for a late fall and overwinter feeding
