Preparations Underway
for 2016 Morristown Magazine
The Chamber is beginning preparations for the publication of our annual Morristown
Magazine. This is a full color high quality magazine that highlights the Quality of Life
in the Lakeway Area. It is used by the Chamber in newcomer packets and business
prospect recruiting materials. For the past several years, we have partnered with Lakeway Printers to produce this excellent piece.
Locally, the Morristown Magazine is distributed in hotel rooms, professional offices, churches, schools, utilities and other venues that reach newcomers to our community.
Advertising in the Morristown Magazine is a perfect way to reach new customers
and clients. Advertising space is limited to Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce
members and advertising opportunities that fit all budgets will be available.
Letters with more detailed information about the project are going out to the
membership within the next 10 days with ad sales beginning immediately. The magazines will be distributed in late October/early November. For more information on advertising in the Morristown Magazine, contact Tammy Davenport at Lakeway Printers,
423-581-5630 or [email protected].

Taxes!
axes…..a necessary in any society but how
does it help or hinder our community. City
Manager Tony Cox put this into great perspective at our last Chamber Board Meeting with his
City budget presentation. The City’s new tax increase will cost each citizen 1 Whopper per
month. I will only speak for myself here, but I
can and should give up 1 Whopper per
month. We won’t go into those reasons.
For under $3 per month, we will see positive change in our city through road projects,
additional amenities and enhanced services. Mr.
Cox’s presentation also showed that with this
increase, we would still have the lowest taxes of
any other city our size in the state of Tennessee!
I think that is a testament to how our tax money
is spent in our community and how far our dollar is stretched.
The question must be asked though, what
does the “lowest taxes of similar cities” say to
outsiders looking at coming into our community.
I will say low taxes is something I don’t highlight. The immediate reaction I get when it is
discusses is “what isn’t your city providing or
why isn’t everyone paying their fair share?”
This is a difficult discussion as I feel our city
and county do a good job managing our money
but it is often seen as a negative to incoming
business and industry.
Our county faces that challenge now. Do
they have an increase or do we stay status quo
and accept being “the lowest” or do we give up
2 Whoppers and fix past neglect and work toward a future plan? I have always been an advocate of small increases annually as it hurts more
when I have to give up 2 Whoppers per month. I
would have liked to only give up ¼ of a Whopper per month, but every city and county must
eventually bite the bullet and cast their vote for
future prosperity instead of voting to just keep
getting by.
I feel our elected officials are fiscally
minded and understand future ramifications of
their decisions today. We must remember that
our community isn’t a round of golf where the
low score wins.
