(Conditions Apply) 33 Shakespeare Street Alpha 41 MOST SUCCESSFUL YOUNG ENTRANT COMPETITION Sponsored by Alpha Show Society ($100 + Sean Dillon Perpetual Trophy) The Most Successful Young Entrant is an initiative of the 2004 Queensland Young Ambassador for the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Show Societies, Sean Dillon. The idea is to promote the several different facets that complete the overall image of a rural Agricultural Show and to encourage participation in as many different areas of the show as possible. Requirement for entry: The entrant must be aged under 25 years on the Wednesday of the Alpha Show; and Must compete in two (2) different sections of the show. NOTE: Entering horses in the led ring and the hack ring does not by itself allow eligibility. However, Hack/Led Ring and Show jumping or Stockman’s Challenge would be acceptable. Pavilion classes will be considered as one section for the purpose of this award. Scoring Guidelines: 1. Entry forms/scorecards are collected from the Show Secretary at the Secretaries Box. 2. It is the responsibility of entrants to ensure that their scorecard is completed with places and include the signature of the relevant Chief Steward. Remember, the Chief Stewards decision will at all times be final. 3. After competition returned scorecards will be tallied by the Secretary using the points system below: 4. 1st—6 point Reserve Champion—1 Point 2nd—4 Points Grand Champion—2 Points 3rd—2 Points Supreme Champion—1 Point Protests must be lodged in writing within 30 minutes for the decision being announced at which case a committee consisting of the ASS President, one Vice President and a Chief Steward will consider the protest and determine a finding. This finding will be absolute and final. For more details please contact the Show Secretary on 4985 3418. 42 43 CATTLE SECTION NOTICE OF CHANGES Curfew : Monday, 18 May 12 noon ENTER CONDITIONS: Prime Cattle Payment of entry fees due on the date of mouthing. One (1) entry only per vendor per single class allowed. Stud Cattle Payment of entry fees must be paid to the Secretary and pedigree papers supplied to the Chief Steward by Curfew. SELLING CONDITIONS: Prime Cattle Separate NVD’s must be completed for each selling agent employed by a vendor. A vendor can only combine pen and/or single cattle for the sale if they list them with the same selling agent. Any cost of transferring NLIS tag is at the expense of the vendor. Stud Cattle Exhibitors may place FOR SALE SIGNS on exhibited animals for sale. Single Entry Nomination Fee:- $10.00 per head which includes initial bedding. Group Entries Nomination Fee:- $10.00 per group which includes initial bedding. Fees must be paid in full prior to judging otherwise exhibits will be disqualified. 2. The lodging of completed entry forms will be taken as a guarantee that the animals specified therein are free from all disease as far as is known by the owner. In the case of an infectious disease being spread through or by an exhibit, the exhibitor shall be held responsible. 3. The Alpha Show Society will not be responsible for any accident that may be caused through or by an exhibitor, and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold Alpha Show Society harmless and indemnified against any legal proceedings arising from any such accident. 4. Alpha Show Society will not, under any circumstances, hold itself liable for any accident on the ground, sale yards or premises. 5. Precautions will be taken to guard against fire and to protect the property at the show, but exhibits will not be insured at the cost of the Alpha Show Society. 6. Stock, where practicable, shall be paraded as directed by the Chief Steward. Exhibitor’s who do not comply, may be fined and disqualified at the discretion of the Chief Steward, whose decision will be final. All prizes won by said exhibitors shall be retained by the Society. 7. Cattle must be tied with neck chains when left unattended and must have nose clips when paraded. Failure to comply will result in fines at the discretion of the Stewards. 8. Positive evidence of infertility will be adequate for disqualification. 9. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to ensure that animals in the stud and led steer section which are brought onto the grounds are tractable and able to be restrained and handled without causing damage. 10. The use of HORMONES and/or TRANQUILLISERS is PROHIBITED. Any exhibitor violating this regulation will be dealt with by the Committee. 11. ALL CATTLE TO BE EXHIBITED AS TICK FREE. CONDITIONS 12. All cattle entered in stud cattle classes must be registered in the name of the exhibitor as owner in a properly constituted herd book of the relevant breed association and must comply with the rules and regulations of the relevant breed association. 13. The age of all stud beef cattle shall be the actual age as at 1 April. The actual date of birth of each animal must be entered on the entry form. Arrival 14. Exhibitors are requested that cattle are penned on the grounds by 5 pm on Monday. 15. Ensure nomination fees are paid and Herd Book Certificates are handed to the Steward in Charge by 12 noon Monday. 16. Any beast which behaves in an unsatisfactory manner may be expelled from the stud cattle area by order of the stewards. 17. Exhibitors and livestock attendant’s passes can be obtained from the Secretary. 18. Competitors arriving more than one day prior to the show, or departing more than one day later than the show 46 must obtain permission from the Secretary so that arrangements can be made. Charges may apply. Bedding & Fodder 19. Straw bedding provided by the ASS will be used. 20. The provision of fodder is the responsibility of the exhibitor. Weighing 21. Weighing is between 10 am and 5 pm on Monday at the Alpha Sale Yards. 22. The Chief Steward will provide Parader Cards stating age and weight to Herd Masters. It will be the responsibility of the herd master to ensure the correct card is displayed at all times. Washing 23. Washing of cattle on the grounds is permitted only in the designated area using shampoo that is environmental friendly. Judging 24. No person except those engaged in charge of the exhibit shall be permitted to remain in the yards or ring during judging. 25. Stock appearing in the ring for judging will be disqualified if decorated with medals, ribbons, or prize tickets awarded at previous shows or events. 26. Points for Aggregate trophies are calculated as follows: 9 points - Supreme Champion; 7 points - Champion; 5 points - Reserve Champion; 3 points - First; 2 points - Second; 1 point - Third In the event of a tie for any place, the points awarded for the place and the next lower place shall be equally divided. 27. Champions are selected from all first prize winners of the sex and the breed to compete. A Reserve Champion will be selected to take the place of the Champion in the event of the latter being disqualified for any cause. The Reserve Championship shall be selected from the remaining first prize animals, together with the second prize of the class which furnished the Champion. 28. All breeds compete for the Grand Champion Bull and Female trophies. 29. The All Breeds Supreme Champion shall be selected from the Grand Champion Bull and Female. 30. The Judge may at their discretion, refuse to award a prize where an exhibit is in the opinion, not of sufficient merit. 31. JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL. Grand Parade 32. An exhibitor, who fails to parade their cattle in the Grand Parade, may at the discretion of the Chief Steward forfeit all prize money/trophies won. 33. Major Trophies will be presented during the Grand Parade on Wednesday. Departure 34. No exhibit can be removed from the grounds before 4 pm on Wednesday without the permission of the Chief Steward. 35. STOCK travelling West of Alpha MUST be sprayed at the saleyards before leaving the Alpha area. Cards and Ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and sashes for Grand and Reserve Champions, Breed Champions and Reserve Champions, Grand Bull and Cow, and Supreme Beast of the Show will be provided by Alpha Show Society. Protests must be lodged in writing to the Secretary within one (1) hour after the awarding dispute has been made. A protest fee of $5.00 is required and will be retained by the Society if in the opinion of the Chief Steward and Judge acting together, the protest is frivolous. 14. ALL CATTLE TO BE EXHIBITED AS TICK FREE. CONDITIONS 15. Exhibits must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor for at least three (3) months prior to the show. 16. All cattle must be dehorned or the horn must not be longer than it is wide. 17. All HGP treated cattle must have a triangular ear mark. 18. All cattle must have a NLIS identification tag secured to the ear. 19. In single classes, no more than one (1) entry per vendor. Maximum of three (3) entries per vendor in grouped classes. 20. Pasture fed and/or crop fed cattle can only exhibited in specific classes unless it is stated otherwise. 56 21. Cattle not intended to be sold must be clearly MARKED on the Entry Form as NOT FOR SALE. These animals to be identified to the Stewards at the mouthing and branded with a R. 22. After judging all unplaced cattle in single and pen classes will be penned in separate vendor lots ready for auction day. 23. No late entries will be accepted after the entries closing date. 24. Vendors must complete a separate NVD for each agent Arrival 25. Exhibitors are requested that cattle are penned on the grounds by noon on Monday. Exhibitors are responsible for the penning of cattle on arrival at the grounds. Weighing 26. The weight ranges listed for classes are live weights. 27. All cattle will be mouthed, ear tagged and branded if not for sale by the Official Mouther’s within 14 days prior to the opening day of the show. Ear tags depicting the number of incisor teeth erupted will be affixed to the upper side of the left ear. The colour of the tag are: YELLOW (Milk Teeth) WHITE (2 Teeth) BLUE (4 Teeth) RED (6 Teeth) GREEN (Full mouth) Judging 28. A Supreme Champion Male & Female exhibit will be selected from ALL class exhibits. (Winners do not have to be from a winning pen or single class.) 29. Ribbons and certificate will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. 30. Judging 11. The Judge may at their discretion, refuse to award a prize where an exhibit is in the opinion, not of sufficient merit. The Judge’s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into. 12. A first place prize will be paid for each class where a trophy is not awarded. 13. In the event of there being only one entry in a class and the Judge deems it worthy of a prize – a MERIT award certificate only will be awarded. This merit award is to carry 3 points for the purpose of aggregate prizes. 14.
