Hampshire Health Safety and Envinonmental Group 20'16 THE SOLENT SAFETY AWARD, JACK BENNETT TROPHY and GRANT McMILLAN TROPHY Awards Ceremony will be at the HHSEG Conference October 2016 Prestigious Trophies, Certificates of Merit and Cash Prizes PLAN YOUR ENTRY NOW THE SOLENT SAFETY AWARD, JACK BENNETT TROPHY AND GRANT MCMILLAN TROPHY projects The Solent Safety Award, Jack Bennett Trophy and Grant McMillan Trophy are awarded to both to with the aim of promoting safety awareness, occupational health and environmental issues in the the young and those shorfly to join industry or commerce as well as those already working field of health and safetY. projects could contain original safety ideas or effective health, safety and environmental systems, which can or have been developed and used by individuals or organisations. Participants may also promotion, or education submit entries which demonstrate methods of accident prevention, safety and risk and training schemes. Such entries should demonstrate a basic understanding of hazard and how they could be managed. Previous winners include: *Staying Safe Days" school lnitiative Using 2 days of Activities Where Visiting Experts Explain and Advise Submarine Project HMS Alliance and Holland 1 Health and Safety Project Manual A Collection of Health and Safety Posters The Unaided Work of Year 4 and Year 6 Pupils The Solent SafetY Award of The Solent Safety Award was conceived by the late Philip Coutts when he was chairman is HHSEG during the early eighties, and is dedicated in his memory. The Solent SafetyAward who normally awarded to entries from member companies or individual group members, demonstrate commitment to the principles of health and safety at work The Jack Bennett TroPhY founder The Jack Bennett Trophy is dedicated to the memory of the late Jack Bennett who was a member of the group. This trophy is for entries from Secondary Schools, 6th Form Colleges and Colleges of Further Education, Apprentice Training Schemes and Youth Organisations with members aged 10 and over. The Grant McMillan TroPhY Grant McMillan is a doctor who specialises in health and safety. He spent over thirty years in uniform in the Royal Navy, including time in training establishments and in search and rescue helicopters. This taught him that, while life should not be spent in the safety of a "bubble wrap" cocoon, we should always be on the lookout for danger so that we can avoid taking needless risks for our own health and safety and that of others. He believes that this should not be seen as an optional extra or a needless burden and that it is never too early in life to make this attention to starting at home and in schools and health and safety an automatic part of our work and play colleges. This trophy is dedicated in recognition of Grant's contribution in the field of occupational health and safety, and his commitment to the Hampshire Health Safety and Environment Group' - The Grant McMillan Trophy is to be awarded to entries from lnfant, Junior, and Primary Schools and youth Organisations with members in the 7 to 11 year age group. The trophy will be awarded on merit to the entry which best demonstrates promotion and commitments to safety, health, and/or environmental protection through their schoolwork, hobbies, or youth group activities The organisers will accept entries in any form; they may be written, on a poster, a DVD or other electronic means or a combination of these. Entries and Judging: Entries will be judged on and will need to demonstrate: Content Relevance Practicality The ability for the submission to be used or developed by others. The judging panel will also take into account the way in which the entry is presented. The awards will be presented at the Group's Conference at Langstone Technology Park, Havant in October 2416. Details will be fonvarded to Award Winners Publicity Publicity for these Safety Awards will be made on behalf of the HHSEG, the participants, and their respective organisations with your authorisation and acceptance. This will involve information, including photographs set out on the HHSEG website www.hhseg.org.uk, and also passed to local news media sources.
