The area is well known for its tourism, farming and fascinating history. It is a haven for the countryside lover and those who enjoy outdoor pursuits. The town of Sedbergh is just 6 miles away set beneath the imposing Howgill Fells. Famous for its Public School dating back to 1525, there is also a Prep School, a state Secondary School and a Primary School. The Lake District is a half hour drive and there is also sailing on Killinghall Lake. Excellent fishing can be enjoyed on a number of trout streams in the area, and there are golf courses at Sedbergh, Casterton, Kirkby Lonsdale and Kendal. DIRECTIONS From the West Take junction 37 off the M6 and follow the A684 through Sedbergh following the signs to Hawes. Continue for 6 miles to the village of Garsdale. Pass through the village and approximately 400 metres out of the village you will see the property set back on the right hand side of the road behind a high wall. From the East Take the Leeming Bar junction off the A1(M) and follow the A684 through Bedale, Leyburn, and Hawes until you reach Garsdale Head. Continue down the Dale towards the village of Garsdale. Approximately 400 metres east of the village you will see the property set back on the left hand side of the road behind a high wall. THE PROPERTY Dandra Garth is steeped in history. Originally a manor house it takes it name from a Norseman. An interesting coat of arms depicting a Lion Rampant within a boarder of thistles tells of its former association to James I. Following a dispute taken to the High Chancel Court the property was given to four Yoeman farmers of Garsdale. Probably dating from the early 17th Century the house is built of stone under a flagged roof arranged over two storeys with a large full length loft. Later additions in the 19th Century include a large extension to the rear of the property. The house faces south overlooking its own delightful gardens and land, and is situated close to the enchanting River Clough. The property is in need of total renovation throughout. EXTERNALLY Accessed via a short stone track Dandra Garth is set back from the road standing behind a high stone wall. Pleasant gardens with a number of mature trees surround the house including a walled kitchen garden in need of restoration. Stone Barn At the entrance to the property is a stone barn in reasonable condition consisting of a tractor shed, store, with granary steps leading to a second store. Additional Stone Barn A second larger coach house and barn may be available should this be of interest to a prospective purchaser. Land Adjoining the property is a field of permanent pasture extending to approximately 3 acres, which is bounded by a good stone wall, a beck to the eastern boundary, and enjoys a spring fed water supply. Services The spring fed water supply is likely to require the installation of a private filtration system. The property benefits from mains electricity but will require re-wiring as part of the renovation. There is currently no drainage serving the property.
