The home of the Cocks family until the later half of the 18th Century when Sir Richard Cocks died and, with no heirs, the old manor lay empty until being demolished by fire. In the 1830’s, Edward Holland, the well-known agriculturalist, restored it with some later modifications to the present hall. Links with leading figures of the world of politics, arts and the social scene of the 1930’s add to the elegant air of ‘another time’. The novelist Elizabeth Gaskell, a cousin of Edward Holland, was a frequent visitor. Charles Babbage, the original pioneer of computing was also a regular guest, along with Sir John Betjeman and the Mitford sisters. In the early 20th Century, the hall was the home of Viscount Eyers Monsell, the conservative politician for Evesham from 1910 to 1935. In 1931 he was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty, a position he held until 1936. The Post Office Fellowship of Remembrance first acquired the hall in 1959 and it remains, to this day, in their ownership. POFR originally ran this private club as holiday retreat and convalescent home for its members. In 1995, a revaluation of the business was carried out and it was decided to open the business to the general public. The business has gone from strength to strength since that time and now is one of the premier wedding and conference destinations in the Cotswolds and surrounding areas. The building’s unique location offers a haven of tranquillity from the outside world amidst some of the finest scenery in England. Evesham’s best kept secret” ”
