SKATING NOTES
Goal for the 2007-08 season is to win World Championships .... Belbin
began to skate at age 2 because her mother, Michele, is a figure skating coach and costume designer ... Was previously coached by Paul

dancing champion and current ABC broadcaster Susie Wynne ... Their
second-place finish at the 2005 World Championships made the duo
the highest-placing U.S. ice dance team in 30 years and the first U.S.
dance team to medal at the competition in 20 years ... They were
awarded perfect 6.0s for presentation in the free dance at the 2005
U.S. Championships ... Overall at the event they were awarded fourteen 6.0s, placing them third in the record books for 6.0s at the event

Extraordinary Ability” (EB-1) in 2000 after creating an impressive profile
of figure skating results with Agosto ... Got her Green Card two years
later ... In 2002 Congress changed the rules to allow EB-1s to apply
for their visas and Green Cards at the same time, shortening the time
frame one waits for U.S. citizenship ... Because Belbin began her process before 2002, the new rules did not apply to her ... Senator Carl
Levin (D-Mich.) introduced an amendment to an appropriations bill
in the fall of 2005 to aid individuals in Belbin’s position who applied
for EB-1s before 2002 ... The amendment passed through Congress on
Dec. 22, 2005 ... Belbin received her U.S. citizenship on Dec. 31, 2005
... In February 2005, Belbin and Agosto organized and skated in Skate
Aid for Tsunami Relief, an ice skating show to benefit the tsunami relief
fund for Southeast Asia, and raised $40,000.
One of Belbin’s hobbies is auto-crossing (car racing) ... Values her family above all ... Most prized possession is her American passport ... Is
signed with Ford NY Modeling Agency ... Biggest life-defining moment
was the passing of her grandfather ... Works as a correspondent for
FOX news ... Wants to pursue a career in broadcast journalism after
her skating career, with hopes of hosting a sports/fashion/entertainment show ... What sets her apart from others is her sense of humor,
and she says most people don’t know she’s “just one of the guys”
... Has two dogs named Zigen and Maggie, and two cats named
Spanky and Sierra ... Loves to perform ... Favorite movie is Pulp Fiction
... Is a car enthusiast ... Favorite country to travel to is Australia ... Loves
breakfast food and chocolate milk ... Has one older brother, Lucas ...
Mother designs her skating dresses ... Describes herself as ambitious,
compassionate and stubborn ... Would like to meet Anderson Cooper
to ask him tips on journalism.
Agosto is originally from Chicago, Ill. ... Moved to Detroit in June
1998 to skate with Belbin ... Graduated with honors from Groves High
School in June 2000 ... Hobbies include playing the guitar (including
blues and Flamenco), scuba diving, horseback riding, rock climbing
and mountain biking ... Also loves to go salsa dancing ... First concert
ever was the Chicago Symphony Orchestra ... Best Halloween costume was as The X-Men’s Wolverine ... Would like to meet Bill Clinton to
tell him he misses him ... Recently got his first voice gig, recording the
voice of a villain in an upcoming video game; has always wanted to
be the goofy voice of some cartoon character ... Loves apple cider
and Super Mario Brothers.

... Bates began skating at age 4 because his mom “lost him” every time
she brought him to watch his sister skate ... So she put him out on the ice
where she could see him.
PERSONAL NOTES
Samuelson has two younger sisters ... Favorite city to which she’s traveled

Bates, severing the tendon in her middle finger and forcing the team to
withdraw from the competition (“However, I am back to skating and better than ever!”).
Bates has an older brother and older sister ... Participated in the U.S.
Figure Skating Basic Skills Program ... Achieved a 3.85 GPA in school ... Is

her mother and was signed up for lessons the next night ... Barantsev
started skating at age 4 because his mother was a skater ... He formerly skated with Natalia Romaniuta from 1995-2002, with whom he
was a two-time World Junior ice dancing champion.
PERSONAL NOTES

Scottish Rite Hospital of Dallas, Texas, which gives children and their
families medical assistance at no charge ... After skating, she would
like to stay in the choreographic and design areas of the sport and
explore the world to find her passion ... Has numerous national records
and eight national titles in silhouette rifle marksmanship ... Father was
her rifle coach ... Would like to meet Angelina Jolie because “she is an
example of acceptance and caring for all human beings, and mixing
cultures in her own home makes her very special.”
Barantsev has a passion for studying world history ... Hobbies include
reading, watching historical documentaries and talking with friends
... Favorite holiday is New Year’s, because it is one of the most celebrated holidays in Russia ... Started skating in Russia, where he had to
ride the city bus alone as a 7-year-old to get to practice ... Left home
at age 13 to train in Bulgaria for months at a time, living in a twobedroom apartment with seven others ... Says he realizes now that the
sacrifices he made as a youngster built his character ... He graduated
from the sports university in Russia ... Would like to someday own his
own restaurant, specializing in gourmet desserts and special liqueurs.
