Ben-Gurion Remembers
An Exclusive Film Screening and Q&A with Michael Bar-Zohar
No Mission Is Impossible:
The Israeli Special Forces
In 1972, David Ben-Gurion agreed to participate in a documentary film in which he
would encounter the events and the places that shaped his life.
Our special guest speaker is Michael Bar-Zohar,
author of over 30 fiction and nonfiction books
including his most recent book, No Mission Is
Impossible: The Death-Defying Missions of the
Israeli Special Forces.
Ben-Gurion Remembers featured Ben-Gurion and the “who’s who” in Israel
and in Ben-Gurion’s life including Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan, Shimon Peres,
Yitzhak Rabin, Yitzhak Navon, Teddy Kollek, Abba Eban and many others. It was
filmed in the Negev, the Galilee, Jerusalem, Sharm el Sheikh, and elsewhere.
This riveting volume sheds light on some of the
most harrowing, nail-biting operations of the
Israeli Special forces, depicted in electrifying
detail major battles, raids in enemy territory, and
death-defying commando missions while also
sharing the personal stories of soldiers and top
commanders, revealing their hopes and fears.
Twenty-four hours before the world premiere screening
of Ben-Gurion Remembers was to take place in
New York in October 1973, the Yom Kippur War broke out.
The film was screened but it quickly took a back seat
to the raging war and was forgotten…for more than
40 years. In 2015 the film was discovered, restored,
and shown on Israeli television to rave reviews.
AABGU is proud to be among the first to screen this
remarkable film in the U.S. since the dark days of 1973.
In English and Hebrew with English subtitles and a
running time of 86 minutes, Ben-Gurion Remembers
will be shown in the presence of Michael Bar-Zohar,
official biographer of David Ben-Gurion and the film’s
screenwriter and filming and editing supervisor. After
the film, there will be a Q&A session with Bar-Zohar.
Michael Bar-Zohar was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1930,
immigrated to Israel in 1948, and subsequently served in air
force intelligence and the paratroopers.
He was a Member of Knesset, an advisor to General Moshe
Dayan, and an envoy to the Council of Europe.
