Hope Hero
There are times when a rescued dog or cat has
immediate critical medical needs. HSCC’s annual Hope
Fund Gala raises awareness and funding for these issues.
The Hope Fund covers expenses for treatment above
and beyond regular veterinary care, giving an innocent
animal the second chance they deserve. With the
increased number of dogs and cats entering the HSCC
shelters, more is needed to keep up with demands.
Humane Hero
The average stay for a shelter animal is now
approximately 30 days. Unfortunately, some
dogs & cats stay much longer for various reasons.
Become a shelter animal’s Humane Hero
and offset the costs accumulated from housing,
cleaning, feeding, medicating and additional vaccinations
during their extended stay.
Heartworm Hero
Heartworm disease is one of the major health problems
affecting dogs in the United States.
They are very different from intestinal parasites.
Heartworms are passed by mosquitoes
and if not treated, will cause serious damage
or death, a silent killer.
Every rescued dog is tested for heartworms.
If the test is negative,
monthly heartworm preventative is administered.
When the test is positive, the dog undergoes
treatment and will be heartworm free.
Due to the severity of this disease,
the expense of treatment will be hundreds of dollars.
Spay/Neuter Hero
Every dog and cat rescued by HSCC is spayed or
neutered prior to adoption. Preventing unwanted litters
of puppies and kittens should be enough motivation to
spay females and neuter males. There are numerous
medical and behavioral benefits for spaying & neutering
pets as early as 12 weeks of age.
