“VUELTA A IBIZA SUP MAGIC XTREME 2014”
RULES, PROGRAMME & PROMOTION
Marathon Description, Rules & Security Norms:
• The “Vuelta a Ibiza SUP Magic Xtreme 2014” is the first SUP Marathon around the island of Ibiza,
taking place between September 24 to 28. This SUP Xtreme Race and international event will start from
Playa d’en Bossa (Nassau BC) and spread over 5 days in 5 stages, of an average of 25 km. (13 mi.) each
for a total of 125 km. (68 mi.) in open sea. The start and finishing of each stage will take place in one of
each of the municipalities comprising the island: Sant Josep de S’Atalaia, Sant Antoni de Portmany,
Sant Joan de Labritja, Santa Eularia des Riu and Eivissa. The estimated average sailing time for each
stage will be around 4-5 hours (+ - 5 Km/h) according to sea conditions.
• There will be 4 categories, defined by the size (feet) of the SUPboards:
- Elite Men: 12’6 (3,84m) & 14’ (4,27m)
- Elite Female 12’6 (3,84m) & 14’ (4,27m)
Each category will be identified by a a different rash guard colour bearing the number of the
competitor. All categories will start each stage together, at the same time.
Spanish participants will have to be federated and beholder of a FES Licence and updated, adequate
sports insurance. Foreigners non resident in Spain will have to have their respective countries federation
license and updated adequate sports insurance, or get a Spanish FES licence and insurance.
Entries are limited and opened to athlete from all over the world. There will be a ratio of participants
of 10% local and 90% visitors.
• A Judge will check the time of each racer at the Finish of each stage and will publish them on the
results board. The Marathon’s final result will be the sum of the five stages’ times.
Arrival beach at each stage will feature 3 tents and equipment for the athletes to relax and recover with
energy drinks. The competitors will also be assisted by a sport massager. One of the tents will be hosting
the Judge, technical team, race staff and the press.
Racers will have to bring their own supply for the race (drinks & food).
A bus will transfer daily the athletes who do not have a car from their accommodation to the Starting
stage and back from the Finishing stage.
• The athletes will be supported by 4 security boats. In one of them ahead of the race will be the
marathon director, leading the way and supervising the race. An ambulance with a doctor will be in both
the Start and the Fnish of each stage.
For security reasons and according to sea and wheather conditions, the race director might decide to
change the itinerary, shorten or cancel any stage of the race.
Event Programme:
• Tueday 23 of September
- 18:00 Welcome cocktail at Hard Rock Café Ibiza, press conference and official presentation of the
event and competitors to the judges, authorities, sponsors and media. Confirmation of the athletes
registration and dispatch of the rash guards with the number of each participant, according to their
category.
• Wednesday 24 of September
- 09:00 Briefing of the athletes with the race director. Information on sea and weahter conditions: wind,
waves, currents, temperatures, etc.
- 09:30 Start of the 1st Stage of the Vuelta a Ibiza SUP Magic Xtreme 2014. The 30 Km. (17 mi.) leg
will start at Playa d’en Bossa and finish in Cala d’Hort between 14h30 and 15h30.
• Thursday 25 of September
- 09:00 Briefing of the athletes with the race director. Information on sea and weahter conditions: wind,
waves, currents, temperatures, etc.
- 09:30 Start of the 2nd Stage of the Vuelta a Ibiza SUP Magic Xtreme 2014. The 20 Km. (12 mi.) leg
will start at Cala d’Hort and finish at Cala Salada between 13h30 and 14h30.
• Friday 26 of September
- 09:00 Briefing of the athletes with the race director. Information on sea and weahter conditions: wind,
waves, currents, temperatures, etc.
- 09:30 Start of the 3rd Stage of the Vuelta a Ibiza SUP Magic Xtreme 2014. The 25 Km. (15 mi.) leg
will start at Cala Salada and finish at Portinatx between 14h30 and 15h30.
• Sabado 27 de September
- 09:00 Briefing of the athletes with the race director. Information on sea and weahter conditions: wind,
waves, currents, temperatures, etc.
- 09:30 Start of the 4th Stage of the Vuelta a Ibiza SUP Magic Xtreme 2014. The 25 Km. (15 mi.) leg
will start at Portinatx and finish at Cala Llenya between 14h30 and 15h30.
• Domingo 28 de September
- 09:00 Briefing of the athletes with the race director. Information on sea and weahter conditions: wind,
waves, currents, temperatures, etc.
- 09:30 Start of the 5th. Stage of the Vuelta a Ibiza SUP Magic Xtreme 2014. The 25 Km. (15 mi.) leg
will start at Cala Llenya and finish at Meta Final at Playa de Talamanca between 14h30 and 15h30.
- 17:30 Winner’s Podium and Prize Giving Ceremony: The three first classified in each of the 4
categories, will receive their trophy by the Island Sport Minister, gifts and prize money from the
sponsors of the event. All Athletes of the Marathon will receive a prize for their participation in this
challenging event.
Extra Activities:
• During the five days of the race Vuelta a Ibiza SUP Magic Xtreme 2014, at the arrival of each stage,
Club de SUP Ibiza & Formentera will offer free SUP “Baptisms” and initiation courses, in different
languages, held by Aloha SUP School instructors to all the events’ assistants, friends and families
awaiting the riders arrival at the beach. There will also be workshops and clinics for children, sdults,
instructors and handicaped persons or with “special” needs. The Organization will provide free drinks to
competitors, staff, sponsors and Media.
• We will also run a campaign of awareness between the plublic on the individual and collective
responsabilities of protecting and preserving the natural environment, its coast and beaches. We will
distribute rubish bags, provided by the Surfrider Foundation non-profit organization, to all attendants
in order to maintain the beach clean.

Stage) and Cala Llenya (5th Sage). Playa de Talamanca (Final stage)

Promotion:
• The promotion, difusion and media coverage of the event will be exhaustive at Local, National and
International levels.
Repercussion:
• The “Vuelta a Ibiza SUP Magic Xtreme 2014” will have a huge repercussion and will be without
doubt an inedited and multitudinary event, which will attract to Ibiza a great affluence of SUP fans
from across the world. Today SUP is the most innovator, fastest growing and popular sport worldwide,
spreading quickly and gathering millions of new adepts in record time. SUP became known
internationally only back in 2009, with the exception of the US where it started back in 2000.... The
symbiosis between Ibiza and SUP is perfect, due to the Island geographic, environment and climatic
characteristics throughout the year, for the practice of the “Sport of the Millenium”.
